Hey Southern Life, Good Morning and what up my guy? I too and so sad for all the victims the survivors and the entire Maine communities involved in this tragedy that occurred last night. I remember when I mentioned to you in the comments like this to visit Lewiston Maine ( long story short I'm born and raised in Boston Massachusetts now living in Providence RI and I remember learning long ago that a lot of ex Boston or ex Massachusetts folks migrated to Lewiston Maine back in the day because I guess when states like Maine were dealing with low population numbers like Vermont they would pay money to US citizens in other states to move to states with low population numbers?) when you and the wifey was visiting the New England States like Maine this past summer! Thanks for all you do & keep up with your mission work because you are shining a light 🕯️ on things that are overlooked or unseen in this life okay l!!

As far as the immigrant population I think it is important to note I knew somalis there. One guy was the son of a former presidential candidate in Somalia and was rich when he came over. Still he wanted to gangbang, him and his buddies formed the somalia mafia and cook and sell crack and make rap videos. The women are great but the men fell victim to black American culture, but I think they are quickly assimilating

Regardless of one small town, Maine is still one of the safest place to live anywhere. Period. He talks about seeing the whole picture but then he's talking about only one town and using it to judge the while state. Lewiston was always a crappy gritty factory town that was mostly French-speaking Canadians and their ancestors. The factories that people worked at started to produce textiles and shoes during the Civil War, for the Union army. These factories started going under in the 1920’s and were only kept in business through generous tax subsidies and grants. Finally, in the 1960’s and 1970’s, taxpayers stopped paying to keep these failing companies open. When the factories closed, the smart people left town, and Lewiston was left with the old people and drunks and drug abusers. There were never any luxury apartments in Little Canada, either, or anywhere in Lewiston. They were the same places you see today. The only people keeping the city going nowadays are the African immigrants.

Dude, Lewiston Maine is a State of migrants. Like you stated, It has a large population of French ( Canadian) My grandfather moved to Maine in 1903 as an Irish immigrant and was an indentured servant ( White Slave ) Until he earned his citizenship by joining the Army and serving in WWI . A whole different type of MAN back then. Didn't just hop a plane or walk across the border with his hand out . The politicians have given us no choice but to FUND/ Support the refugees and immigrants , while our own citizens live in poverty. So yeah a bit salty about the system . I am 60 years old and grew up/ worked / played in the streets you drove around and you missed a whole lot . Its worse than you showed. Like @Miandria525 said.Tree streets < . Things took a huge dive starting in the 1980's and have progressively got worse. One thing you got right was the connection between the immigrants and drugs.

Maine native here. Grew up on these very streets. Since this was posted 9 Months ago, I can honestly say you missed it. By years. The "hood" and "ghettos" are incredibly dumbed down comparative to years ago. Let me tell you why. Early 80s to late 90s there was horrifying ghettos and hoods in some of those very streets you were driving in. I'd say about 8 years ago, the Federal government and police of Lewiston decided to make a greater appearance and posted about it in the news. Since then a lot has changed massively. Buildings have been torn down and replaced, communities have been getting help and the city stepped up to clean the streets. At 9:03 Directly ahead is the police station. The police station wasn't there until about 8 years ago. Before that corner, one street to the right is "Knox" street. The worst of them all. Straight-ish or to your right is the park named "Kennedy" park. I remember growing up living on those streets where my father was part of gangs. Guns went off constantly. Night time was the worst. People got robbed everywhere, my father was shanked twice. Those streets used to be riddled with some of the worst drugged up clowned people I have ever seen. Esspecially kennedy park. People used to live in apartments that the "slum-lord" Landlords never cared to check on the building. The tenants weren't legally living there. The mere walking down knox street wasn't just asking to be jumped. You were GOING to be jumped. That wasn't a street that was turf, and every apartment from the left to right were people in that gang. The hood only consisted of streets around Kennedy park "mainly". It crumbled off a bit else where but not too much. So this includes Knox, birch, park, blake, bates a bit of walnut. You also didnt go at night which is at least now, when it's most active around those parts in the middle of summer. To mention something you spoke about with immigrants... Yes they did come here and a lot had bad behavior some tried starting gangs but it was quickly stopped, and only some of that still remains which you'll see if you go back at night during the summer at knox and bates street. But it's nothing like it used to be.

We moved 11 years ago tho after my bro was jumped and stabbed by the Somali gang. They got no jail time of course n my 14 year old bro nearly died. Ma forced us to move. I still miss it tho. Texas has a murder rate of 8.2 per 100,000 people vs Maine's 1.7 and you're trying to say Maine is more dangerous because of it's overdose rate? HA! I lived in Lewiston for over 20 years and there isn't a single street that I was ever afraid of walking down at 3 a.m. Same goes for Portland. We may overdose at three times as much as Texas but I have a 0% of dying from it because I don't use. 5x the murder rate in Texas and I am 5x likely as getting murdered, but that's somehow safer? The Dirty Lew might be the armpit of Maine, but not because it's unsafe.

I'm from San Francisco where we have very high overdose, car breakins and what the state has foolishly voted in as petty theft rates. SF murder rates are lower than most big cities. Assault is also lower. Property breakins run average. Almost impossible to place SF into overall low, middle or high.
