  • A team of 80+ nurses and physicians at Banner - University Medical Center Phoenix are using ECMO, an organ bypass machine, to oxygenate blood in patients with COVID-19 who cannot take in sufficient oxygen on their own or with the assistance of a ventilator.

    I was on ECMO and had a 50/50 chance of living because of covid. I’m recovering and heading home from rehabilitation next month. I’ll never forget my ECMO team. They saved my life.

      Hi Precious Bondoc. You are strong if you recovered from this disease. I'm really happy to hear it. My wife after covid and 3 weeks of ventilator was put on ECMO. Can I ask you few questions about being on ecmo here or privately? Thanks

    I was on ecmo for 6 weeks from Covid-19. If God can do it for me he can do it for anybody else.

    My bf just got off the ecmo machine and is doing much better. He is still on a vent and has a long road to recovery. But thank god he was able to get on the ecmo machine

      @@MissEsztina yes he doing great! He leg that he has had surgery on in the past is the only thing he has had problems with since coming out of the coma. But he’s making improvements he went from using a walker to now a one point cane. Other than that no damage from the Covid!

      You just gave me hope. My father in law will be put up in Ecmo machine today. He have been in ICU for 2 weeks now and fighting for his life.🥺

    Brother was on echo for a week before he passed of covid. It looks really complicated. Hats off to the medical staff for trying so hard to save my brother. I'm grateful they tried.

      How is your dad now? My sister was on the vent not progressing. I just got the call that they are transferring her to a University Hospital where they have this machine.. And she's a candidate for it. So she will be on it as well.

    My mom is on this machine, it’s been helping her. Thank you lord for you nurses and doctors to help keep these patients going. Thank you for helping my mom who was on the frontlines, me and my sister work the frontlines as well as we been exposed as well in the healthcare field. We love our patients and I know my mom does too. We love patient care! Love what you do. And don’t forget to thank your healthcare professionals! Love you mom and prayers out there to those effected as well ❤️

    I was on ecmo it works big time this machine can save alot of more people but some hospital dont have access to this very sad

    God bless all those nurses and doctors that do all they can to keep our sick family members alive and give us hope day by day. My father was put in ECMO treatment and I thank God and all the nurses that took care of him on those critical times as he made recovery little by little. Thank you again for all that you do!! 🙏🏻

    I was on Ecmo, ventilator and dialysis machine for 6months due to covid. I was given a 3% chance of living obviously it saved my life but I was left disabled.

    looking @ 2:07 thats alot of air in that circut better make sure you run the fluid 4 mins or more. I run mine 8 mins and make sure I burp system.. I do ecmo california. Been doing it 6 yrs

    This seems a lot more effective than a respirator. Unfortunately not all hospitals are equipped with one.

      There is no such thing as a respirator, it's a ventilator because it only moves air in and out. The ECMO machine is actually performing the act of respiration. The ECMO machine is only necessary if the patient's lungs are not functioning to such a degree that they cannot exchange gasses, so not everyone needs ECMO, some patients are fine with just a ventilator and aggressive settings.

      Plus ECMO causes a host of adverse side effects, from microemboles, hemorrhage, inflammation increase and a plethora of different conditions can be worsened by the use of ECMO. It is really a LAST option, when everything else has been tried precisely because it is so dangerous.

    My brother moved to ECMo today !! Due to lung issues .. unfortunately ventilator not provided enough support so we moved ECMo support!! How much days it will take to recover from it ? He's 34 now!! Hope we have positive outputs !! Please advise

    Ecmo management is mainly done by the clinical Perfusionist. I don’t know why this article is glorifying one profession while completely ignoring the other.

      This program is a nurse driven program. They train the nurses to run the pump. That’s why they aren’t featuring perfusionists.

    My Mom has been on a ventilator for 80 days. Her insurance doesn’t cover Rehab, ECMO, or transplant options…. These hospitals are straight up CRUEL.
