Smart! I was just looking at that lip over the top on the pads & thought “well that’s a waste of pads!”

NICE! This is a great suggestion, I didnt know about calibrating the brake pads to the caliper. Thank you

I tried a bunch of things to fix my brakes cuz they were so weak and made the loudest squaling sound ever! I was able to get stronger breaking but that would not last long and the screeching sound never went away. I remembered seeing this video and said to myself let me try this method. And bam no screeching sound and powerful breaking! Your a life saver!

It was assembled incorrectly... simply put. Also, your black rounded washer should fit into the cratered silver washer to create a proper torque down... just flip the black washer (possibly silver washer as well, it all depends where the bevel/crater is), and ensure the two different bevels make contact~ The key thing is to double check how much of the brake caliper is gripped by the pads, it must be correct. Also, must have two spacer washers on the INSIDE, of the caliper wheel for proper spacing of the brake kit. Another thing to be wary of are loose any bolts on the scooter, paying particular attention to each bolt in the mount of brake system, as well as spacer washers, safety washer, properly tabbed into the forks, and all correct order.

I inspected the brakes thoroughly and after reviewing this and other videos my opinion is this mod is not as good as it sounds. But Im so glad this video is here because it made me look at my pads and do a lot of research. First, I took out my brake pads and looked at them and unlike this video says on mine I see there is only like 1/8 of them that is off the rotor so it is 7/8's contact from the factory. so this mod in hthe video is only adding 1/8 more pad to the rotor and below i show why I think it might actually damage the pads over time. Second, if you look at nanobot website where they sell their pads and amazon and you will see that nanrobot must have recently changed the brake pads they sell. Because they are different than the pads I have OEM and I bought my nanrobot in 2019. The pads still on sale on ebay are totally round brake pad material like my pads are, but the pads for sale on nanobot website are is no longer round but are more shaped like a car brake pads and attached to a round magnetic back. the color of the back is now red. See here www.nanrobot.com/products/brake-pads . So now that 1/8 section is deleted from the pad from the factory so what is left will have total contact without the mod recommended above . And finally, I think the real reason nanrobot modified their brake pad is they do not want people to think the pad is not fully on the rotor because they do not want people to do this mod because it defeats a purpose for how the feature of the special spacer (which is changed in the video) is meant to operate. You see the larger aluminum colored spacer and black thing that fits with it are not just regular flat washers. look at them carefully and you can see they are shaped concave so they can go on inside the other at slightly different angles. the black concave and the aluminum concave and slide and light up and support the caliper from below so the caliper can be angled. It is important to be able to adjust the angle of the entire brake caliper so it really lines up with the rotor correctly. You can see in this video shows that you can angle the rotor at different angles with your hand to line it up and then tighten those screws czcams.com/video/ZDVgXSd7LH8/video.html . So the mod above can be harmful because it takes away that ability to change the angle of the calipers. now maybe if your lucky your frame and brake pad and rotor are perfect aligned without that adjust ability. But probably not and your not getting as good aliment and therefore brakes that ware evenly to last their full life. If so then maybe this mode will add 1/8 more pad contact with the rotor if you are using the older style pads. But it might make your brake pads ware out faster or and if one section fo the brake pad wares faster and is gone then you loose whatever you gained and you might loose braking ability. If your rotor has any slight warping or bending. you cannot get the best possible tightness compromise without being able to adjust the angle of the rotor. rotors are not perfect and if you hit a curb or something they slightly bend.
Therefore I would just get the new pads and really learn all the adjustments. when the pads are wearing properly when they are about 50% used you can also take the brake off and screw the bolt attached fixed pad tighter to move it and make the space tighter. This link is for the d5 which slightly but the adjustment on the fixed non moving pad is the same as on the d4 and one of the most important adjustments people forget to do or do not know is possible because you cannot see that bolt/screw unless you take off your brake system from the wheel. czcams.com/video/ZDVgXSd7LH8/video.html . I think the reason Nanrobot changed the brake pads they sell is they seemed to notice this issue and wanted to not let people make the adjustment in this video. It is easy to think by looking at the ware pattern on the rotor with the older round pads that there is not full contact.
I do agree that it would be even better if the entire braking system was bigger to match the full size of the rotor but it works good enough as it is. I stop on a dime without using power assist, but after watching all these videos I understand how to align and adjust the brakes optimally it is not to hard. just watch the videos in these links to understand the brakes.
PS nanrobot seems to keep their brake pad size secret, but I think they are the 18mm diameter pads sames used on the rear of the Xiaomi Mijia M365 Pro Electric Scooter. so they can be found much cheaper. smile.amazon.com/Yifant-Electric-Accessories-Skateboard-Replacement/dp/B082CXS36T/ref=pd_sbs_200_8?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B082CXS36T&pd_rd_r=8a4a4581-f893-4b50-a3e4-c3336cb1d494&pd_rd_w=0mzrS&pd_rd_wg=ad67q&pf_rd_p=bdc67ba8-ab69-42ee-b8d8-8f5336b36a83&pf_rd_r=MZ94HKMXT8KJV4H31J0Z&psc=1&refRID=MZ94HKMXT8KJV4H31J0Z
and I ordered the scooter model unspecified ones in the link below for 4pair for $18.25 and will see if these fit. (not sure if they are the same but see in the pics that these are shown as 18mm on the pad side and 18.5mm on the magnet side and say they are for 10 in wheeled electric scooters) smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07VJ693ZL/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
BTW: Seems like there are 3 quality levels of brake pads in terms of materials. Resin pads and semi metallic and full metallic? pad. The Nanrobot pad looks semi-metalic and you can see flakes of copper in the picture. I think the plane resin type would ware out too quickly and just are for lighter man-powered mountain bikes. I do not trust the ebay pads currently listed for nanrobot d4+ and d5+ which look just like the resin pads for sale on aliexpress.

I figured this out last week. I noticed brake pads wore unevenly so rearranging the spacers solved that problem but I wasn’t aware of gripping lever before final tightening. Will do that tomorrow.

Very good information, keep these tips and tricks coming! It must have been a bad installation since the brake pads didn't make contact with all of the disc.
