My husband introduced this film to me. He would have been ninety today and died last month. He used to cry when he saw the ending. He said he and so many men identified with it: being a businessman - you know, the kind Feminists accuse of "... having it all while the wife stayed home and worked." The world of business was his prison, and like him, so many men identified with Lemmon's character. A man freed suddenly from convention by love with a "Princess" who awakens him with a kiss. Nice twist on the old fairytale. - A lot of men died young being ground up by the machine of the corporate grind. My guy was lucky and escaped too. Oh, how he loved that corny green frog scene. - Thing is, he was in love with Catherine Deneuve. Such perfection! I don't know why he married a dark-eyed, dark-haired Greek. I was no delicate teacup. Still, we had our fairytale. "Good night, Sweet Prince."

Catherine Deneuve turned 80 on October 23. She is the only major character from this movie still alive. Even Brubaker's son, Stanley, has passed away.😢

この映画中学生のガキの頃見ました。懐かしいです。僕は昔王子様だった。幼稚園の劇で…だけど。。。ってセリフがガキンチョの僕に響いて、その後ずーっと残りました。
冴えない中年男のおとぎばなし。ジャックレモンがいい味出していて好きな映画です。

主演は名優ジャック・レモン、相手役にカトリーヌ・ドヌーヴという米仏二大スターの共演。20代後半のカトリーヌ・ドヌーヴはお人形のように奇麗！１９６０年代「おかしな二人」でブレイクしたジャック・レモン！のコメディ感が快調で楽しい。映画の内容はあまり記憶に残っていないが・・確か原題はThe April Fools・・テーマ曲はとっても気に入っています。
先にこの曲の方を知り、それが映画用だったということで、公開当時の新聞広告(縮刷版で探して見つけました‥)を見ると、「ドヌーブ&ジャック・レモン主演」を強調してましたが、どうも"商売的"には"失敗=大コケ"だったようです(バカラックのアルバムのライナーノーツにもその様に記載されてました。)…確かに、テレビで放映されたものを観る限り「いわゆる"大人のメルヘン"を狙ったようだけど、で、何？、だから何？」だったんですが、この曲とドヌーブの美貌があれば"ノープロブレム"…なんですよね(ジャック・レモンについては、この際は"out of 眼中"です。)…美しい女性と美しい曲の組み合わせ‥やはり"最強"です(冴えないオヤジは自然と"out of 眼中"になりますよね…)

Hi i bought this movie only last week after seeing some clips on here as i fell in love with this movie instantly but then i am madly in love with Catherine Deneuve since my teens and always will be as she is the most beautiful woman ever born on this planet as she got a face that makes your heart turn to jelly.
