Ernie C on guitar! So underrated. I think when a lot of people hear that Ice T has a metal band they assume it's just a vanity project or something, but Body Count were (and still are) the real deal.

Ice has said he started the band as a way to allow Ernie C to play guitar with him in heavy stuff that they both loved.

Bodycount does a cover of Slayer and in the beginning he states "Ernie C loved to play guitar and I started a band to let him play. I started noticing in Europe that people would mosh to Rap. So I took the impending doom of Black Sabbath, the west coast gansta style of Suicidal Tendencies and the agressiveness of Slayer who is my favorite band and always will be."

When Body Count dropped "Cop Killer" the entire media went nuts about whether rap music was too violent. Not one of those people with jobs as "journalists" on TV even once heard the song or realized it wasn't a rap song. All they knew was the group was black so it must be rap.

Body Count came out on stage around 2:00 am and the place erupted in one big mosh pit and people getting bloodied . Ice-T loved it. Their stage setup was crazy ,too. Two big black body guards with shotguns on the sides of the stage and police lights and sirens blaring on the stage.

Musically, they covered and imo improved on a late 80s Metal song of the same title by a band called Suicidal Tendencies.
Lyrically, ST expressed anger towards society and religion trying to shape them. Body Count has a whole new set of lyrics about things that piss him off. Much more trivial matters, but it's hilarious.

SOD was formed as a parody thrash band by Anthrax members Scott Ian on guitar and Charlie Benante on drums, Nuclear Assault bassist Dan Lilker and Billy Milano of Method Of Destruction as the singer. Also, react to Amon Amarth, Twighlight of the Thundergod...

I have seen them a couple times, they're great. ICE-T is freaking legend!

It's tragic that of this lineup, only Ernie C (the lead guitarist) and Ice-T are still alive. Within a few years, Mooseman (bass) was killed in a drive-by, and Beatmaster-V & D-Roc the Executioner died from cancer.

Much respect to Mr Ice T and the BC fellas. This was in the 90's too. Im a Ernie C fan too.. Dig his guitar shreds.

Back in the day when this came out we all wanted this cd, it was Banned from Copkiller which was all the rage and for good reason. There was an explosion or seeming explosion of cop on black crime and Ice T was the voice. Played the shit out of this!

There's a band that I listened to back in the 2000s called E-Town Concrete that covered this song. You should check that out. It's a really good cover, but a largely unknown/underrated band.

First heard body count on the credits for universal soldier. We were kids and we had to watch the credits and ask the record store. We were whities from whitie town and all we knew was that was killer metal!

just watched this video again today after many years... wonder how many people caught the burning guitar at 11:00 planted in the lawn of a mansion as a perfect answer to the burning crosses of history.

Just to give yall a timeframe for this album... This came out one year before Ice released Home Invasion. 1992 for BC and 1993 for HI.

It's funny you mentionned Slayer... Ice-T knows his metal: he told on several occasions (and on their recorded cover of Raining Blood) that he created Body Count just to give his buddy Ernie .C a chance to play his guitar and he wanted the band to sound like a mixture of Slayer's speed, Black Sabbath's vibe and some Suicidal Tendencies's punk influence.

I watched it back in MTV Headbangers Ball in 1992. \m/

English white guy here, loved BC in the 1990's. Ice-T and Body Count have done more to open understanding and vex tribalism than any other band I can think of.
Rap fans like it because of Ice-T.
Rock boys like because its hard core AF.
