Excellent series, the trouble with this arena is that it is literally in the middle of nowhere as the game accurately shows.
It has changed I live very close to it and now there’s a lot of buildings and there’s a mall beside it
@@matpro8443 it’s still an awkward and sketchy area kind of in the middle of nowhere. I bet that if they put this arena in the center of Ottawa attendance would be amazing
@@bostonwarrior4824 good point but in the centre of Ottawa it would be very hard to have a lot of parking and plus I’m going to the game today (vs Columbus) and I don’t have to pay for parking cus I can walk so bonus for me
@@bostonwarrior4824 I can’t believe that this is what it looks like. To have an arena with nothing around it and being in the middle of nowhere unless it’s changed and it’s built up(like F1 with matpro said if it’s true) looks too damn weird. I can see why attendance would be down. Who would ever think of doing something like that for a professional sports team and put an arena in the middle of nowhere to begin with?? Makes no sense to me. You put it in what I call the hub of a city to get attendance.
@@sarahprince2412 It’s in the middle of a residential neighbourhood near two malls. They wanted to put it downtown at first but back in 1992, they couldn’t find a spot where City Council would allow it. The plan was to build it in the former City of Kanata (now Ottawa) where it is now and build up the area around it like at TD Place but the residents of Kanata voted against it. I think it was the best decision they could make at the time. Attendance was nearly perfect for the first twelve years or so but started to go downhill when the team started losing in 2008. That’s when the location started to be mentioned as a reason.
In flight sim, the Canadian Tire Centre looks very eerie on the outside, it looks kind of abandoned too. I do agree with you on it not having the C.T.C logos though, seems a bit off. Bing maps may need to re-scan these buildings, to give a more accurate update to the arenas, whenever it is possible.
Google earth shows so many great things on the outside of CTC
I've been to games at both Arizona and Ottawa; and I struggle to choose which is a worse location. My quick thoughts:
Vehicle access: probably about the same? Both long drives from downtown, but both near highways.
Transit access: despite OTT having an LRT that only gets you about halfway to rink, it was better than ARI (only tried it once, and it was a Sunday game and I couldn't actually get back to downtown Phoenix).
Nearby amenities: ARI easily wins. In a shopping district, whereas OTT is surrounded by car dealerships.
So yeah...both terrible in their own way.
For shopping it’s suronded by a mall (tanger outlets) and car dealerships
3:47 right below the plane there you can see where the Sens played before the CTC was built, at the Ottawa civic centre, now TD place. Current home of the OHL 67’s and CFL RedBlacks (its an arena/stadium combo)
I live in Kanata so I’m biased when I say I want it to stay in Kanata. I think though it would probably be best if it moved to the downtown core.
I’m not the boos of you but what I hear living downtown is hard but if you whant to move I recommend staying in kanata or Stittsville (we’re I am) or more downtown then go nepian (I’m a kid so don’t trust me 100%)
Hi, ottawa senators fan here, you’ll have to look up our stadium on google to find the details i think if the name and sens logo arent there
He wasn’t using Google Earth
@@coasterhockygamingboy9549 he knows he is just saying google it for more details on the stadium
I didn't know Canadian Tire Centre is so far away from the actual city of Ottawa. Thanks for another great episode and useful info.
It's actually within the City of Ottawa but not downtown. It's about 30 minutes from downtown.
@@BSBSPSensGirl88 Thanks for the info.
When they made this game and downloaded the map it must have been when they were changing the name frome Scotiabank place to Canadian tire center...you can clearly see on the building the outline of the Scotiabank logo and name. It looks like they just took the letters off and and haven't replaced it yet
That’s actually crazy how far away the arena is
That tent you found is Cirque du Soleil
Some of the logos on the side of the building don’t exist anymore. And the words on the back/front of the building are saying the old name of the arena, Scotiabank Place in the front and that same name in the back in French.
You mentioned about Calgary & Arizona/Phoenix not being in the city the team's designation says, and I know this is a hockey channel, but.....
MLB's Tampa Bay Rays have always been in St Petersburg since the team's inception in 1998, across the bay from the city itself of Tampa. There have been talks about the Rays getting a new stadium in the city of Tampa in recent years, but nothing is close, sadly.
I honestly think the attendance would he do much better, and they got a great team right now! Plus their minor leagues are stacked with talent! So, they'll have that winning sustainably for years to come.
(FYI, St Petersburg was where the Lightning originally called home before moving to the Amalie Arena in Tampa. The Lightning used the same stadium that the Rays currently use. Currently called Tropicana Field.)
Tent was the cirque du soleil road show
I’m in Winnipeg and (well pre pandemic) is being able to leave the office, doff the tie for the jersey and walk through the skywalk to the Jets game and restaurants
I live close to the arena and I saw my house from were you were flying
It’s cause they took the photos after changing the name from Scotiabank Place to CTC
You’ve gotta fly half way to Toronto from Ottawa to get to the arena. There is quite a bit of sens and Canadian tire logos on the arena but I guess it just doesn’t show on flight sim
The arena is so different irl, all the lights are lit up and it looks amazing
if you do Anaheim; Honda Center and another stadium close by both on the same street Katella Ave, near the intersection of Katella Ave & State College Blvd also Disneyland is near by the streets of Southbond Harbor Blvd, West Katella Ave, & south of West Ball Road and Interstate i-5
10:27 DO A BARREL ROLL!!
The landing gear rapper in the background has some fire bars
Reminds me why they need a new arena now, like Dorian has a lot of money and doesn’t wanna get a new building. Like if you put this new arena in the center of Ottawa the attendance would be great. There would be so many benefits oppose to being in the middle of nowhere
I am from Ottawa and I am going to lot of games and there is the Canadian tire logo on the arena and the sens logo with some players in front of the arena. Great arena but need to relocate near downtown
Holy jeez. Can stop in to a send game after feeding the cows. It's legit in the middle of nowhere
The arena location has definitely been a problem for a long time now, I live in Ottawa myself (and am actually going to the game tomorrow) but the arena is usually a solid 45 minute drive each way from where I am
Kanata is not in the middle of nowhere I know because I go all the time
You flew over Lebreton, you should have have showed everyone where they are trying to build the new arena and how closer it is to the city
Love this series can you do Rogers place here in Edmonton please
I love this series keep up the good work 👍
Cool video but just an FYI that the arena is within the City of Ottawa, just not downtown though. Mentioning because I often see people ask why we'd have an arena that's not in Ottawa, haha.
Would love for you dad to be your “copilot” in this series! Would be really fun for the both of you and for all of us! Gotta name your plane and/or the airlines itself: GOAT
Yeah, that would be awesome…I miss the Goat
If only you could have started with the Canucks and when Benning was GM. You could be the guy flying the FIRE BENNING banner.
Looking forward to the Boston episode!
Last one should be Colorado since the airport is so far away from the arena
As you’re flying over my city I was shouting out all the locations hahahaha
these are great! There is a Canadian Tire logo on the arena and a big sens logo above the main entrance.
7:25 My annoying silly brother became the plane’s pilot
It's really not that far out. It's no more than a 20 minute drive. Probably half as long as going to a leafs game in downtown Toronto
I agree, although maybe a bit far for people from Orleans or Gatineau.
I buy a sens jersey while in my Ottawa 1 day trip.
At least the Coyotes arena is in Glendale and not the middle of nowhere over an hour from the city 😂
The CTC is in Ottawa and 30 minutes from downtown. The City of Kanata was amalgamated into Ottawa in 2001.
Absolutely loving this series!
Neil, that circus tent looks like it’s Cirque Du Soleil. You know. The famous circus that was started by Canadians?!?! How have you, a Canadian not heard of Cirque Du Soleil?!?! I’m American and even I know what Cirque Du Soleil is. C’mon man.
I do know what Cirque Du Soleil is, and they originated in Quebec, which is why I mentioned it in the Montreal Canadiens version of this same video in the series of fly overs in Flight Sim, that I posted only days ago. Go watch the video and see for yourself and see. I don't consider Cirque Du Soleil a circus, I consider it more a performance. What I was talking about in this video was the more traditional circus, like with animals, etc. *sigh*
I used to work at CTC so its kinda funny seeing the numbers above the garage doors as i use to enter through that loading docks :)
This is sick
just a btw, the satellite scan for this game was around 2017, so new arenas might not be there. like the islanders, vegas, and maybe seattle. love this series and i am excited for you to fly over cities that i’ve been to :)
The tents in the parking lot is for cirque du soleil, an acrobatic type of circus. They are extremely popular and travel to do shows at many major nhl/nba arenas
I don't know if this is the case for all logos in this sim, but there may be some licensing issues in play.
Yeah this game is very outdated. The area is more developed, there are Sens and Canada tire logos on the building and starting a block or two from the arena, there are (or were when I was last there) flags/signs with various players of the team
There is quite a bit of branding around the building in real life. I was just there today for the Harlem Globetrotters. Sens are in desperate need of a better location though
Love this series!
Ottawa is a beautiful city (from what I’ve seen on videos and heard from people), it’s on my top ten list of places I want to visit!
it's not kanota it's kanata
Hey Neil, don't know if you remember me I've been around for a while. Anyway hope to catch up on your videos just been busy. This is a very awesome idea for a video! Super unique I love it! Combination of two things you love, hockey and aviation. Keep up the incredible content you are so criminally underrated as a content creator in general.
This really puts things into perspective and makes you wonder what exactly they were thinking when deciding on the location of this place.
I think the are thinking of expanding cus there are new houses and a mall
They originally wanted to put it downtown but there was no room, according to City Council. The next plan was to build up around arena where it is now but when it was still part of the old City of Kanata (before amalgamating into Ottawa), the residents voted no, putting them in a bind.
P2P003, Montreal Centre, you have entered Parliament Restricted Zone, possible pilot deviation, do you have a pen to note a phone number.
Hehehe
