  • In this video, I review a guitar I have for sale. It's a rare vintage Gibson model that they only made for a few years. I have always wanted one of these Gibson ES-150D models. It looks just like a Gibson ES-335, except the guitar has a much fatter body, almost twice as thick as the 335. This thing is great for blues and jazz. These are incredibly hard to find. You won't see another one of these for years!! Let me know how you like it! Leave me a comment, and thanks for watching!!
    Also, I have hundreds of other lessons for guitar players who like Jazz, Blues, Bebop, and Fingerstyle guitar arrangements. There are also a lot of lessons on guitar technique and guitar scales, along with exercises meant to build your chops. Check them all out here: guitarcollegel...

    About Rich:
    Originally from the L.A. area, Rich has been playing professionally and teaching guitar for over thirty years. His education includes years of college and private instruction with a variety of teachers, including Mitch Holder, Ted Greene, Joe Pass, and Charlie Shoemake, to name a few. He feels education is a continuing process. There's always more to learn. Wes Montgomery, Joe Pass, Howard Roberts, Ted Greene, and Larry Carleton have all influenced his playing.
    Rich wrote three books for a major publisher, Dale Zdenek/ Belwin Mills/Columbia, providing him the opportunity to work with other great artists/authors like Tommy Tedesco, Joe Diorio, and Ted Greene. After teaching at GIT/Musicians Institute, in Hollywood, CA, for three years, he developed and published his own home study guitar school-type curriculum available on his website www.GuitarCollegeLibrary.com which has helped over ten thousand students improve their playing.
    Rich has won honorable mentions and awards in songwriting and served as president of the Ventura County Producers and Songwriters Guild. Touring for three years with "Dick Clark's Good Old Rock and Roll Show," he had the opportunity to perform with Bo Diddley, Chuck Berry, Little Anthony, and many other great, old-time rock and rollers.
    After moving his family to the Yosemite/Fresno area, he taught guitar and directed the jazz band at Fresno Pacific University for two years. Being a well-rounded player, Rich is comfortable playing a variety of styles, including jazz (his favorite), blues, rock, fusion, country, and solo fingerstyle. He performs at local venues in a number of different scenarios, as a solo guitarist, with his jazz trio or quartet or smooth jazz quintet. At home in his studio, he is continually producing new lessons for CZcams and www.GuitarCollegeLibrary.com.
    The years of experience and knowledge he can share with you will
    help you be the player you always dreamed you'd be.

    I purchased this guitar... cherry...1969 at Sam Ash in Brooklyn NY...I'm 74 now...after I got tired of my Gretch Chet atkins hollow body... Orange... I really liked the full body feel and the neck playability. However it was not suited for rock as it had bad feedback. Eventually change to a strat and the routine les Paul. I still have the cherry es 150 Dc and the original case in near mint condition. I don't play much these days but I cherish owning this guitar.

    Me and my bandmates, back in the mid/late 70s, would go to a local club to see a (non-local, rock) band whose guitar player played one of these. Exactly like that one. I wish I could relate more on the experience, but it was a long time ago. I just remember that he was a very good player.

    A great sounding instrument for mature players. I can`t take the ear burn of what the kids are up to. It is great you always feature instruments that sound like what my memory recalls. Hi-Fi tone never goes out of style, it has the genuine and authentic dynamics of what brought us here in the first place.

    I used to service one of these back in the late 70's/early 80's. Blonde w/ P-90's. Gorgeous playing and terrific sound.

    Does the master volume sucks tone? Cut top end? Or it has a treble bleed on the master volume?

    I like this video because it exemplifies the way Rich has the greatest left hand finger economy on the planet. But the guitar..... well, I don't see why a guitar like this should have a stiff maple top in place of resonant spruce; I don't see why it's got a tune-o-matic on drilled posts with a lump of wood underneath it, instead of a floating saddle set-up. It seems these things contribute to a rather nasal sound compared to the airiness of a Barney Kessell, of similar proportions, which I would prefer anyday.

      I was immediately struck by Rich's left hand economy the first time I saw him play. I'm a rock player wanting to learn jazz, but any style would benefit from that technique.

    I had a buddy who owned one of these. It had belonged to his uncle. Super cool guitar!

    They were out before the 70's. I was going to buy one in 1969 but it was bought out from under me by music store owner.

    Several years ago,close to 10 a pawn shop had one of these in Natural or blond in Louisville Ky. If I recall they wanted an exorbitant price for it.

    I have 1973 335. it has a narrow neck. Is this wider at the nut?

  • @rolandmueller7218
    @rolandmueller7218 Před rokem

    Rich, I liked your mellow bluesy solo. I also prefer a thicker guitar as well. I never have played a ES-150DC. But, I’m sure I would like it better than the skinnier ES-335 that I happily sold.

  • @heneverreturnasahorse9773

    I always wanted one of those models. I wasn't fond of the walnut finish. If they had finished in the 60s classic Gibson transparent cherry finish, or the traditional sunburst, I would have sold all my other gear for one. Now, however, I know I prefer the 330 style neck that joins the body at the 16th (?) fret. And, I have always wanted a full hollow, fat bodied telecaster instead of a thin-line.

  • @DLee1100s
    @DLee1100s Před rokem

    I would suggest it is more accurate to describe it as a fat 330 not a fat 335
