To the replies, rule 4 ignores the multiplication. For example, denominators 4 and 6's lcm (least common multiple) is not 4 x 6 (24), it's 12 because they go to 12 together before 24.
Just multiply the multiples of 5 and 3 which is 15 (3x5) or (5x3) and wrifht down the 15 next to 2/3 - 1/5 and 3 x5 = 15 so you would do 2 x 5 = 20 so your first number is 10/15 now 5x3 = 15 so do 1 x 3= 3 and your second number is 3/15. 10/15 - 3/15 is obviously 7/15 so thats the answer. (Its not as complicated as i wrote it)
My 5th grade math teacher said she would never teach the butterfly method because, you might have to simplify, which most of us didn’t know how to do at the time.
For the bottom numbers of the fraction (denominators) instead of multiplying them together, you find the LCM (Lowest Common Multiple) of those 2 denominators
@@ACatThatPlaysRoblox14Asslam o alikum. It is right. The reason it is right: A/B - M/N both fractions need to have common denominators. AN/BN - MB/NB then subtract. AN - MB/ NB. First you need to find the denominator it can be 15 as the two numbers can go to 15 as 3x5 and 5x3 equal 15 but you can also find more denominators ect.
Next, You need to times the numerator by either 5 or three as 2\3's into 10\15 as we multiplyed 2 by 5 as we did for the numerator.
Next we make 1\5 into 3\15
Lastly you subtract 10\15 and 3\15 and get 7\15
Hope this helps! Will also show you a way to muliply them
First line up your numbers like shown below
2\3x1\5 and times 1 by 2 and gets 2 so your numerator is 2 then you times 5 by 3 and get 15 for your denominator.
2\15 is your answer. For adding you make them the same numbers for the subtraction just add them and you get 13\15. I took a long time too write this so hope it helps for all you 8-11 year olds who struggle with this! I know my adult friends who forgot this!! 😂😂
