I put an end to swallow sleep pill recently after several years. Simple justification to myself what's the heck if i don't sleep today? Anyhow i will compensate and sleep tomorrow. FYI i am retired and don't need to wake fresh for anything.

You dont need to find à rootcause, insomnia might have a cause but in the end the cause is not the issue. Its a mind set which kerps going by anxiété and sleep efforts finding the root cause will not help specifically
Some people complain to only sleep a couple of hours a night for veeeeeeryy long time but that sounds biologicaly imposibile, even in the context of insomnia.
There is paradoxical insomnia where sometimes people imagine themselves sleeping less, but the fear center of the brain can override the sleep drive and I've seen some pretty serious insomnia
