Available Now: mercury-studios.lnk.to/ZZTopD...
Double Down Live is a 2 DVD set from ZZ Top combining shows from 1980 and 2008. Disc one was filmed at the Grugahalle in Essen, Germany for the Rockpalast TV series. Hot on the heels of their classic Deguello album (it features 9 of the 10 songs from it) the show finds ZZ Top before sequencers and synthesizers epitomising their lil ol blues band from Texas nickname. Complimented by tracks drawn predominantly from their Tres Hombres and Fandango! albums this is a true best of ZZ Top in the seventies. Disc Two was shot during their European tour in 2008 and combines great live performances, interview clips and back stage footage to create the ultimate ZZ Top on the road movie. With nearly 30 years between the performances the two disc set gives a fascinating then and now insight into what has maintained the ZZ Top live phenomenon.
Rumour spreadin' a-'round in that Texas town
'bout that shack outside La Grange
and you know what I'm talkin' about.
Just let me know if you wanna go
to that home out on the range.
They gotta lotta nice girls ah.
Have mercy.
A haw, haw, haw, haw, a haw.
A haw, haw, haw.
Well, I hear it's fine if you got the time
and the ten to get yourself in.
A hmm, hmm.
And I hear it's tight most ev'ry night,
but now I might be mistaken.
hmm, hmm, hmm.
Ah have mercy.

#ZZTop #LaGrange #DoubleDownLive - Hudba
What a band. All that sound from 3 dudes.
The one thing that remains constant thru the twists and turns of this tune is Frank Beard's rock steady drumming. Deserves far more credit as a great rock drummer then he usually gets.
@user-hz6vm7xh8m You must have discovered piss in your Wheaties this morning?
So groovy.
I only really started noticing since I found these live recordings from that German Rockpalast gig.
68 year old female and I still Rockn' N Rollin"! Great CD for riding in my Pontiac Firebird rollin' down the road!!!!!
hi
In the metal world people always talk about James Hetfield's right hand (and rightly so) ... but if you're talking about greasy, bluesy kick butt rock n roll ... Billy F Gibbons is the master
his left hand ain't bad either...
hetfield, hahaaa good joke
To me Billy is the greatest
My uncle like a brother told me that in 1975 the Greensboro Coliseum was 3 miles from the house and he said all in the square mile circumference could hear their thumping blues rock n roll wide slap ass open. WOO!!!!!!!
Hetfield don't even make the conversation of great guitar players.
"We are saddened by the news today that our Compadre, Dusty Hill, has passed away in his sleep at home in Houston, TX. We, along with legions of ZZ Top fans around the world, will miss your steadfast presence, your good nature and enduring commitment to providing that monumental bottom to the ‘Top'. We will forever be connected to that "Blues Shuffle in C.”
You will be missed greatly, amigo.
Frank & Billy
RIP Dusty Hill We lost a legend today but he will live on through the music. My kids and my kids kids will know about that little ol band from Texas. I am so grateful to have been front row in Louisville KY on the 18th. One of the best nights of my life.
He's rocking in that Great LaGrange in the sky. My heart's go out to you and your families 🤟
RIP gone but not forgotten 🤘🙏😎🇱🇷 much ♥️🎶
I've always been in awe of ZZ Top's musical ability. Everybody loves Billy G. and rightfully so, but Dusty is amazing on that bass guitar. He could play some great stuff, not to mention his backing vocals.
yes
The greatest 3-piece to ever do it!
Man Dusty,s bass sounds like a rythem guitar man wow. I Love it
Hence the magic of the Lil' Ol' Band from TEXAS!
rip
That "Little 'Ol Band from Texas". I loved going to their concerts, never missed one in San Antonio. Went to visit my cousin in Galveston. We went to this charity show and as we walked up to the building I realized we were at THE Balinese Ballroom from "Down at the Balinese". I never knew it was a real place.
I envy you.
@@robertridley-fj8zz I heard a hurricane killed it. It was so cool. Autographed pictures of stars like Sinatra. Before we even got inside, I realised where I was and kept repeating OMG, it's real, OMG I'm in it and it's real. Surprised she didn't eventually tell me to shut the hell up. I couldn't stop gawking then giggling.
@@AVToth The owner(s) had just spent a million dollars refurbishing it. 😭
@@user-uc4zs3cg8d NOOOOOOOOOOOOO❗❗❗❗😢😢😭😭😭😭
zz top is one of a kind. thanks dusty
Saw them in Houston in 1976 on the Worldwide Texas Tour.
On FIRE!!!!!
They sported the Porter Wagner sequined suits.
Got a while....
The first 4 albums are lit
And nasty ...
The thing that's so great is that they are having SO MUCH FUN! So not only talented but entertaining, without light shows and pyrotechnics. Just 3 excellent musicians having a blast!
Saw this 14 years old together with my two best friends. We spend the night together watching Rockpalast on TV and drinking. What a time. What a group. What a music.
This is killer. Huge influence.
Billy Gibbons is one of the best electric blues man.
The best band ever from Houston Texas rest in peace Dusty Hill
Imagine that they were kind of considered a veteran band already at the time this was recorded. And now it's been another 40 years and they're still around...
RIP Dusty! You are already so missed!
I was 21 watching this with my best buddies. We had a lot of beer and even some dry ice to vreate some fog during the show. The carpet didn't like it :-) Man those memories .......This would be one my targets once my Flux Capacitor will be repaired :-)
I've got some parts if you need them, as log as I can come too.
A well-oiled machine. The Reverend Willy G. was on fire back then, Jack. Simplicity with a priceless feel.
Recorded live in Essen (Germany) at the famous live tv-show Rock Palast. In the middle of the night always a fantastic live performance!
Damned old Kluson tuners slipped on him...but still one righteous '59 Les Paul(perhaps THE MOST righteous of'em all). This right here is proof as to why this may well be the greatest trio in the history of music. Thanks for posting it up....
This is probably my favorite LIVE version of this song. Keep Rockin' ZZ Top!
That's because it ain't ZZ Top, Dummy!
Jack Duggan I must have missed someones comment,I know this is ZZTop,LOL
Right?!
Jack Duggan Right... This isn't ZZ Top, I am clearly the ''Dummy''. Do your homework first before you talk to me about ZZ Top.
1) Jack Duggan is dumb or a troll. Either way pay him no mind. 2) You are absolutely right about this version. I can barley listen to the radio version after hearing this. 3) I believe I'm responsible for half the views.
Its the year 2150, and aliens finally contact Earth. We explain to them how we reconciled the conflict between Einstein's General Theory of Relativity and Quantum Field Theory. Very good they reply, but tell us more of this ZZ Top!
That les Paul sounds immense!
One of the original and best power trios ever - straight out of The State of Texas. Nov 2020
the best rock band alive.....and I mean it.......so much talent...son much....energy....ZZ top is awesome....there's no band like ZZ top...
We miss you Dusty! You can truly hear the bass on this song!
I installed a stereo in Mrs. Gibbon's house, (Billy's childhood home. Mrs. Gibbons was one of those Texas Moms, that was instantly "mom" to any boy younger, who happened to be around. Such a gracious, courteous lady!
1.
One of the greatest "power-trios" of all history.
2.
Each is a great and amazing musician.
3.
This is 1980 and today they still kick some asses.
100 times better than any concert since 1980. What energy Billy had.
young pups don't understand what it was like in those days.
no internet to keep you in the loop.
I didn't hear this song until 1977.
And immediately it punched me in the guts.
Off to the local record store to buy the album that weekend.
back home to listen to it 25 times.
then dub it to cassette to play in the car.
southern rock just is....laid back AND heavy.
no need for fk you attitude.... it knows it's better.
Although I was almost alive in 1977. I remember having to look around physicly on my bike for my friends. No cell phones, no where are you dude. No motherfucking social media, no auto tuning and quantization and best of all no social justice assholes. I would not go back though, I mostly love the internet and progression in technology, a great time to be alive.
@@UmVtCg No, this is truly a sh1tty time to be alive.
So much energy from the Reverend Willy G. I dig this.
Its Billy, dude, not Willy.
@@UmVtCg Yeah, it's both. He even refers to himself that way sometimes, so.....Not to mention it's on the inlay on one of his custom guitars. "Rev. Willy G"
man this shit is so heavy. fuck 90's grunge
As much as I obviously love Billy Gibbons' guitar playing I almost appreciate his footwork more.
One of my favorite ZZ Top tunes. :)
guitar, base and a drum kit...nothing else, these guys were amazing
This is one of the best live recordings of them (and from Rockpalast in Germany of all places!). The cool thing is, they look like old dudes here, but were just in their early 30's. It's cool to see the difference from the the "pre-beard" time in the late 60's. Gibbons was actually one of Jimi Hendrix favourite guitarist.
The honorable
🎸🎼Reverend Willy G.🎶
The genuine "Proprietor" serving good folks bonafide SUPER-charged Blues⚡️ "Elixir" of guitar slingin' youth since 1970 along with that Little Ol' Band direct from the "country" of Texas⭐️ZZTOP w/Groovemeister Dusty Hill on da P-B@$$ & Vox🎙and the man w/no beard Master of the BOOGIE Mr.Frank Beard🥁
P.S.
The Gibson Les Paul always 💯% in "tune" messin' with guitarists since the 50s..
Lord have mercy..👍😎
YEEEHAAAA!!
My first whole Rockpalast Night in front of the TV! Recorded it on Music-Cassette from radio and heard it on and on and on until it got lost one day!!
Thanks for posting and DVD offer!!!
I had the pleasure of seeing ZZ live back in 1974 at the Allen theater in Cleveland. They did a unexpected gig while on layover. There couldn't have been more than 300 people there! It was fucking AWESOME!
That thunderous bass!
Absolutely, fantastic performance music ZZTOP. One favourite show. Thanks for posting them. Good time for you. R.I.P master,"Dusty".
One favourite bassist guitar.
BEST live version ever, Billy Gibbons is totally awesome in this particular concert, ZZ TOP a once in a lifetime brilliant band that I have been lucky enough to see many times, no band in blues rock does it better, or for longer, 45 years in fact!!!!
One of the greatest 3 peice bands ever. This is awesome!
Nothing more fun than being at a show, crowds into it, bands into it and the result is a one of a kind live experience. Be in the moment. Can't do that from behind a cell phone camera.
You know its this thing its called...BLUES ROCK!
I'm covering this song with my band, and have to say that the "ahow, how, how, how" really is a turning point
Freakin' LOVE ZZ-Top!!!
Best underrated drummer..
This Ain't No Country Music! This is Southern Rock, at it's Best!
Seeekerman it's not Southern Rock, this is Texas Blues and Blues Rock. Southern Rock for example is Lynyrd Skynyrd
Seeekerman
ITS ROCK N ROLLLLLLLLLL
lol dude read what i wrote, dats Texas Blues
38 Special - Molly Hatchet - Outlaws - Dickey Betts and Great Southern - Charlie Daniels - and Black Oak Arkansas ... sorry folks if I forgotten someone LOL ... the 70 ties age of southern rock
sure is!
Perfect example of why live music rules!!!
Ever try to bring one string back into tune DURING a song?
Didn't think so.....
.
He just played around it... I've seen plenty of pro's tweak a string, hell, I've seen a video of Sarah Jory changing a string, on a pedal steel, during a song. Gotta stretch them strings before the gig!
Nobody in the crowd looks truly happy.
Love ZZTOP et toujours en ce jour depuis mes 18 ans!!!
this is amazing, zztop rules, masterfull guitar player.
DOESNT GET ANY BETTER THAN THIS!!!.....BEYOND AMAZING!
Summer of 1980, I was the summer between my Junior year and senior year of HS. I was hanging with some people I had met at the fair, that became great friends and I married their sister. Had a 1970 R/T 383 Challenger with an Alpine deck…cannot remember the speakers but, she put on La Grange and blew my d@mn speakers. 🤣🤣🤣 so, we drank a little more 154 and powered on a joint and went to a kegger. What a super summer. Back in Black had just come out and man…was an excellent summer. 🤙🤙🤙
Jaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! Geil!! Lauter!!!
So geil. Ich werde es nie vergessen.
I have been a huge fan of "These Texas Beer Drinkers & Hellraisers "since 1973 , always a treat to see live! See them in 1980 with Humble Pie , both classic bands , both great !
Billy Gibbons...so subtle on guitar.....Awesome riffs and sense of the blues. Very Underrated!
Just saw this little ole band from Texas in Hamburg, NY...they still bring it!!!
Ahh those were the days. I saw them live a few times during that period and they were Awesome!!!
Quite a sound, considering it's only a three-piece combo.
Lord have mercy!!! I just looove this band!!!!
cocaine is a wonderful drug!! Awesome playing and showmanship! Billy Gibbons is and the best blues guitar play ever period!!!
he did lots of amphetamine tho
Insanely badass!! Wow!!
...and not a cell phone in sight. If we only knew.
Amazing!!!!!!
miss pearly gates......... love the budweiser getting booted and the look at the camera! haha! what a performance!!!!!!! they got sooo much class.
This was an awesome performance, thanks!
Kick ass Texas !! great one of my favorite songs.........
It´s just that he makes the guitar sound and look so daaaaamn good
Pure guitar geniality ❤❤❤
ZZ Top for president!
OH YEAH TEXAS TRIO ROCK OH ROCK ON FANTASTIC!
The best sounding guitar in the whole world!!
Nobody gives a crap. This is America spic.
ZZ TOP the name of the power!!!!! The best version ever
RIP Dusty !!!! ❤️❤️❤️ Just fuckkin love ZZ TOP FOREVER !!!!
one of the best live-Gigs ever!!!!
Rip dusty Hill, boogie on!
Best of the best, straight from TEXAS
Billy is a kick ass picker. Ohhhh to play like that!!!
maaaan, that sitting down playing like they were just hanging out was sooooo cool. i love me some zz top
Lord had mercy...... Texas Boogie.
This was awesome! Well played, well performed! RIP DH.
My favorite version of these guys
Awesome music!! Period the end!!
this version knocks spots off the 2008 version from th esame disc set... have mercy everybody,,,
unmatched in live concert!
i have been there...in Essen...ages ago...but still present as it was yesterday...
Billy's guitar went out of tune mid track, but man these were their best days : Raw, gut wrenching blues rock.
@quiflington yep, you can definitely hear it... around the 3:00 minute mark.
he used extra light strings on a Les Paul, so that's gonna happen.
Love this performance, but a dose of optimism here... Those days never ended!! There're some incredible bands out there right now
Lol, yep, it definitely goes out of tune but it's such a raunchy version it barely matters
@@alcoholya yeah you're right about the tuning, but not sure about the strings. I thought it was many years later that Billy switched to 8s and then 7s
this gotta be their best show on the tube
RIP, Dusty! God bless Texas!
I saw this band first time on tv one night from Rockpalast in 1980 , ive loved them ever since that night .
Billy Gibbons' vocals have improved with age...
Billy, SRV, Eric Johnson...must be something in the water...Texas has kicked out some of the best, most kick assed musicians to come out and 2 of the greatest all time rock-trios in SRV & Double Trouble & the Tres Hombres themselves. Before Stevie died I always dreamed of an all Texas show w/ZZ, SRV & Eric... Hey Brother, thanks for sharing this killer clip of the boys when they were younger. Peace my rocker brethren & sisters!
And never forget Johnny Dawson Winter!💙
I just wanna reach up and tweak his high 'E' string's tuning... but after he realizes it, it goes away... what a master guitarist! Really glad this video exists.
Fore me, it’s a iconic concert, full of power and energi , satturday night with some Beer i feel gtreat
Hell of a jam on this song... love it!! :D
