    This tent def need a lot more improvement before I pull the trigger IMO. Thank for your honest review. 🤙🏼

    One of the things I would like to see them do is include a mid shell buckle to help close the shell in the middle. Its got a huge gap in most of them for some reason. I will probably fit one on each side to clamp it down all the way so the tent stays out of the elements.

    I'm honestly blown away by the aluminium shell cracking like this, that's crazy. Thanks for the video, keep it up :)

      It's not aluminum. It's fiberglass. The frame is made from aluminum but the shell is fiberglass.

    I’ve had my BDV Duo for about a year and have the same gripes about the fiber exo shell? Mine cracked where the strap is. I haven’t been as unlucky to crack my sides like yours - sorry to see it. I’ve mounted 2 100 watt eco flow flexible panels on my roof and they work great (I think cheaper than the ikamper one?). I do have the comfort mattress and with it you can keep many beddings in the tent when it is deflated. I use a giga pump and it takes 2 mins to air and deflates usually. Totally worth the mattress upgrade. I sleep in mine regularly to enjoy the nature in Palawan. Thanks for sharing your experience experience and happy travels!

      The other thing I can add is that the tent fabric is crazy water and wind proof? I’ve slept in it a few times during tropical storms and down pours. I really like that the shell and tent are separate this reduces the noise in rain and also the heat coming in from the roof from the sun. Yes, during strong winds the tent stands up well. I really like it for tropical use.

      @tim.muangkeo  Před 6 měsíci

      Yea I like the tent fabric/material is pretty high quality. No complaints there! I also slept in it during a rain storm is it held up very well.
      The cracking on the side was my fault. I was really pushing down the tent to ensure it was completely closed. Didn't check around the see if all the fabric were inside lol

    For three bedding, you can upgrade to the inflatable mattress, so you can store more stuff in it

      Oh yea! I've seen a lot of people do that. Upgrading the mattress is usually the first thing people do after getting a roof top tent

    My problem with clamshells is they leak when closed. I have a CVT Mt Hood and it fills up with water in the rain. It’s currently frozen closed because of this freeze. Does the BDV leak when closed?

    • @tim.muangkeo
      @tim.muangkeo  Před 6 měsíci

      I haven't had any issues with water leakage or freezing over. When I go out to sleep in the tent it's been dry

  • @Danny-ww6tt
    @Danny-ww6tt Před 3 měsíci

    Thanks for that. Can you only get in from the back? So if the 4runner gate is open, you'd have to move the ladder? Or can you get in from the side as well

    • @tim.muangkeo
      @tim.muangkeo  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Yea, you can get in on both sides as well. The ladder mounts are adjustable so you can move them wherever you need them to be

    Do you think that cracking is inevitable in this model? If You pulled straight down could that be avoided now that you know the issue? Do these cracks allow water in or have you repaired them?

    • @tim.muangkeo
      @tim.muangkeo  Před 2 měsíci +1

      Over time I think it may be inevitable. When I started to notice it I did pull the tent straight down and was a bit more conscious of not pulling against it. The cracking I experienced wasn't very large so it don't allow water in. I ended up getting a new tent entirely, 4x4 Colorado Nimbuw

      @@tim.muangkeo do you like the 4x4 colorado? any leaks? I'm between the two of these right now and I wanna be able to fit a hest mattress and sleeping bag in whatever tent I get

    • @tim.muangkeo
      @tim.muangkeo  Před 2 měsíci

      @@Brightwoodphotos Yea love the 4x4 Colorado so far. I would say you can fit more bedding inside the 4x4 Colorado. However, the hinges are on the inside so it's somewhat of an awkward fit to squeeze something like a hest mattress without having to cut the foam.
      I was actually going to head into the Hest headquarters and ask if I could try out the dually. I'll let you know how it fits!

      I have a portable 3000mAh power bank from anker that the led strip plugs into. As for length it depends if you want to wrap the entire tent or just one side. I had a 8ft strip and it wrap around the front window. But if you want to wrap it around all 3 windows. I’d go with 20ft or more

      I don't disagree with that. They did drop a new tent called the DLX that's in the price range of small truck campers. Can't deny the quality though lol but I do feel like for the price range other companies make similar tents for a more reasonable price

      Costco sells a tent for 1600. It’s an online exclusive.
      Taruca sells the same style tent as the 4x4 Colorado for 2500.
      One of the more cheaper option is Openroad PeakRoof. It’s currently on sale for 2000
