    My favorite part of the song is at 2:44, when Denny Doherty sings the line beforehand and at 2:47 the entire band sings the line. According to legend, it was a mistake and Lou Adler, the producer, kept it in to give it an original sound. It is indeed a very classic record and one my favorite recordings.

    • @tjames9698
      @tjames9698 Před 2 lety +8

      that mistake and the backing vocals in the final chorus are what really put the song over the top for me. it's like the character in the song, probably written as denny himself, has gone through this cycle so many times he has to start, stop, consider, and then carry on anyway.

Can you really not understand that some people do genuinely care for others, and that it actually hurts people to have horrible things said about them, merely because of their gender, colour, body shape, disability, etc, etc? Why the hell shouldn't we get up and defend them? Isn't there enough nastiness in the world? Why not add a little sweetness? It really doesn't hurt to do so, you know!

      @@papercup2517 Because of something that liberals never even consider. NOBODY ASKED YOU. It is the leftist trope to focus upon things that make them look better, smarter, more loving, and morally superior. And my problem with that? It's an Absolute LIE!!

    • @papercup2517
      @papercup2517 Před 5 lety +13

      @@ConservativeAnthem Well, to be fair, nobody asked you your opinion on the OPs comment either, but that didn't stop you from expressing it, quite forcefully. Fortunately, we're all free to express our views here and there is no need to ask permission or wait for someone else to ask us. So, I don't think 'nobody asked you' is really a valid reason.
      I would agree with you that few people are always perfectly good, smart, loving and morally superior, however elevated and great their political or spiritual ideals or beliefs might be. Quite a lot of people with personal issues are, it's true, attracted to the extreme ends of politics, and often can be very hate-filled towards those they view as their enemies, and may well not recognise the fact.
      I can certainly understand that it's irritating when those angry people come out with high-flown/idealistic language that they don't fully live up to in their personal lives, but what I don't quite get is why you would assume that hypocrisy on the part of millions and millions of people around the world you don't even know. How can you know merely from the fact someone says something caring and kind in defense of someone who's regularly the subject of bullying behaviour or words, that they don't really mean it? That they're not genuinely trying to help? How do you know they're not just genuinely kind people? That there is no true, altruistic love in the world?
      I think we all need to stop and check out our immediate knee-jerk reactions that other people are frauds, evil, stupid or whatever, to see if it's really based in truth for that individual, or the result of generalised irritation from having seen hypocritical, bad or idiotic behaviour at times in some people.

    The Mamas and Papas were the real thing that so many other groups wanted to emulate at the time. Real hippies who made it big but did not compromise their values or lifestyles.They were loved by so many other contemporary pop groups of their day and ending up organizing and inviting the best groups and budding talents of the time in what may have been the greatest pop-rock festival of all to come and every one thereafter to live up to - Monterrey Pop festival '67. Their soaring pop-rock-folk harmonies raised the bar like the Beatles did in their time to such a high level. You could pick almost every song they recorded and find the quality of musicianship, production, recording and harmonies brilliant and spellbinding. There will never be another Cass Elliot.
