- I've seen people compare Sonic 2 to Generations/Mania, Mania to Sonic 2 HD and Sonic 2 against the HD version but I'm most likely the first to do it this way. -Credit to Twin Splash for the inspiration

Generations has no competition with it's overabundance of visual, there's always something to catch your eye (like a few days I learned there's a horizontal waterfall in Green Hill Zone), but Sonic 2 HD looks clean as all hell out of Sonic 2 & Mania
something I noticed was that for mania and 2 there was an effect that they used which made them look worse
I always said if we can't get a Generations remaster of the first Four Sonic games, I'll more than happy take an HD version any day

Yea it's unfortunate that this is supposed to be side by side but he messed with the color balance of every game except for the "HD" version. Generations and Mania really suffered for it. I guess I can't use this video when comparing visuals :/... "Oh" is right...

Takes a lot of work to draw frame by frame as well as coding. Don’t forget the GIGANTIC task of the special stages.

Sonic 2 is my favorite in the series of Sonic video games with Sonic Mania second to it. Sonic sprite in Sonic Mania closely resembles Sonic in Sonic 2. To some people the Sonic game might be simple and in ways it is you just got to be on your toes for upcoming enemies and obstacles if you want to speed through each stage.

I'd love to see the next 2D Sonic from Taxman and Co (if it'll even happen) with Sonic 2 HD's visuals. It just seems like the logical step up from the sprites and aren't some of the team on S2HD not part of the Mania team so hopefully it wouldn't be much of an issue to get permission, if it was required.

Why when in 3D they made him so small, his high in the classic game its more proportional with the scenario, but in generations, it sems that so artificial, as if sonic has shrunk, and the scenario were more bigger than it should be.

I feel this same way too. my guess is since the games are now faster than the genesis games, in order to make the levels the same length, they just made everything bigger or scaled everything up.
I mean in generations sonic is so tiny, both in classic and modern levels. green hill zone feels huge, like sonic is an ant. wtf? plus in classic games sonic is bigger or around the same size as the badniks. in generations the badniks are now considerably bigger.

Sonic generations could've been better if they zoomed in and did what mania did with the wide screen. And made it a little less jarring when jumping and such.

@@ArpeggioPegasusMusic Please no. The colors are *way* too bright, it hurts to look at. Also, Sonic Mania is a homage to the retro Sonic games so this HD style would've ruined that feeling.
Weren't the team behind S2HD also attached to Taxman and Co's Mania team? If so it wouldn't be a stretch for them to shoot for this style if Sega gets them back to make another game (which they damn well better!)

Sonic Mania was a great game, if you don't like the pixelated artstyle you could just play sonic's 3d titles, or play some of his HD 2d fan games. Clearly, you don't know sonic that much. Sonic mania is better than S2HD (well, my opinion)
I'm not sure HD looks better. I can admire the attempt, but I have to give the nod to Mania - it's like the classic, slightly smoothed over, without the shields looking annoying (and without bits of the music disappearing when sound effects happen). But my goodness, does Generations look so much worse than all of them! I remember having a lot of fun with the game, definitely among the better 3D entries. But just watching these one-after-another, the difference is stark.

Sonic 2 HD feels like it's missing something and the audio seems to be a bit overwhelming especially with the dashes getting stacked the way they do. Visually it's nice but it seems slow for some reason.
I play it and have never felt any slow down, it may be the person recording
it probably just looks slow because of how smooth it is.

Generations is the direction we should be going. Sticking to the core of what Sonic is while also showing us the next step in graphics. That's what SEGA was about when they first introduced us to the Blue Blur. He had faster gameplay and looked amazing compared to Mario. I think SEGA should keep that tradition going.
I love the pixel art, it's incredible and nostalgic but I'd also like to see what Sonic could really look like if they had keep their original plan going.

Sonic 2 HD is still being worked on so it makes no sense to be official. It would just be another port or cash grab. One thought I always have is if mania was drawn in the style of HD

I personally don't really like the visuals of Sonic 2 HD. It looks drawn, but not in the way I like. Sonic also feels slower, but I think that has something to do with Sonic's animations

I find some elements of them clashing with others, like the background in Generations or colour choices in Mania. That's just me, though ;)
MD I think because of how far the technology between games has come. The XBox one (the system I used to play Mania) has infinitely more colors vs the Genesis which had like 250+ colors.
This is most likely the reason why I prefer older games, I just like they limited palettes and resolutions ;) And if you want to know, Genesis' amount of simultaneous colours is 64 out of 512 :)
Why is the music turned down so low in the mix on these new games? Streets of Rage 4 was the same, loud as fuck sound effects and barely audible music.

@@xdgaming70 the saturation of the video when showing Sonic Generations' Chemical Plant is high. Like, that's not how the level really looks visually, the saturation and brightness is really high (Same happens with Chemical Plant act 2 at 4:20)
And the spindash's sound in Sonic 2 HD has a high pitch sound that, when repeating the action of charging the spindash, it makes an unpleasant high sound that really hurts to hear. The thing is that you overused it on several occasions when it wasn't really necessary (8:05 here for example)
I believe if you overcharge only 3 or 4 times it goes into the maximum speed level.
What about sonic forces???
