Seminoles are not very native(to Florida) actually. They were made up of remnants from other tribes outside Florida. Most of the actual Florida tribes were wiped out of existence or moved elsewhere. The Seminoles formed in the 1700's and tried claim all the territory in Florida that had been vacated. Most of the place names actually come from those earlier tribes...like Ocala which is named after a Timucua group that lived in that area.
Florida-born, Orlando-raised. And yeah, them snowbirds asking for Kissimmee always gets me! Nah, as long you leave FL as a Gator, we'll find you agreeable.
Alachua is actually pronounced two ways: Alachua county is “A-latch-oo-uh” But the city of Alachua is actually pronounced “A-latch-oo-ay” by most locals
