This isn’t tips for collectors it’s tips for resellers
Yeah I cringed at this. I cut the tags off, open all boxes, let my nephew play with whatever he wants. We all die sooner than we think we will, and i see all these expensive collections become less collectable as fan bases move on, and hoarded items sold for cheap at estate sales where you can tell they were never used.
Love your stuff, use your stuff. I feel collecting for value seems so stressful.
if you like displaying in boxes, thats cool, i do keep some items in box because it does look good in a display or whatever, or the box itself is really cool; but dont tell people to ONLY do it this way.
I like how nearly all of these have to do with reselling figures. Bold to assume i plan to sell any.
Yeah, not exactly a video for those who plan to keep them and maybe pass them down to our children.
Yup-
Based.
Yes
So, in short, don't enjoy yourself.
Pretty much...
…YES!
godzilla is all about suffering
You don’t ENJOY Godzilla you pu in in a table and say your a good boy ✌🏽
Yea pretty much
This video should be called, what not to do if you plan to make money off of godzilla collectibles for some reason. Alternatively a better idea would be to invest in silver.
misleading title, idn't it?
nah... ima do my own thing
Never taking the tags off your figures or keeping them sealed in original packaging only matters if you care about the resale value.
If you don't intend to resell them then those don't apply to you.
Is it about collecting or flipping? lol
I agree with basically everything except for the tags and boxes thing. I buy an action figure so I can display the action figure, not the box like I'm running a museum (I do however keep some boxes, like the NECA ones). The tags one confuses me because you say people sell them for much higher prices with the tags. But why does that matter? You bought the figure and if you're happy with it, why think about selling it?
I personally believe he's got the reseller mindset going on. People like this bother me because they don't keep them to pass down, he just wants to keep them for a little while before tossing them on ebay to the highest buyer.
@@vesuviustitanus4006wdym you believe? It’s so obvious that 3 of his 5 points were all about selling the figure after you buy it when it goes up in price. And he also encourages to buy the real thing when some godzilla figures go for $300+ when the bootlegs are less. I’m guessing that’s him not wanting his precious in box figure to not be sought after
Exactly
Some people buy it and wait till it’s rare then sell it for for double if not triple
Agreed 👍
Collector: guys I just bought a new Godzilla toy and ima review it! But I'm not gonna open it!!!!
Usually reviewers/collectors bought two of them if they want one of em to display
And one to open
Lol
@@raffasyaathaaradhika216I did that with a few marvel legends figures X)
I take off the tags off because it’s just tags but I do keep them just because
That's good, keeping tags on your figures is not for everybody but at least you're saving them
That’s what I do 😂
Oh shoot! I removed a tag!
I remove most my tags because I use most of my figures for stop motions.
Same
Most of these just sound like resale tips which is not why most Godzilla collectors do what they do.
But also, you could just heat the figure up, pull the plastic tab out, sleeve the cards, then if you choose to sell you can just heat them back up and pop the plastic tab back in.
Didn't know that bout the tabs for the tags. Thanks for the info. though, I'm with you on the video itself. this is NOT for collectors, and kind of misleading, when I clicked it I thought I'd learn of new ways to find the figures besides online venue, or maybe new ways to display them or something, but nope. just tips for the guys who resell figures for higher prices and will be more employed by scalpers.
There’s two types of Godzilla collectors, the one who plays with the figures and has fun, and the boring one who displays them
I’m both
I also both
So kids and real men
@@blazkowicz7879 but real men play with godzilla figures, not display them, same with kids too, why did they make Godzilla so marketable, is for people to have the fire lizard to play with and have fun with
Does blud expect us to sell all of our figures??! 💀💀
Fr, I aint selling my funny lizard toys
im gonna play with my funny lizard toys
@@dubletumble99 hell yeah my guy
Why the fuck would I want to sell my goofy little kiryu
@@trinitynguyen-su8wh im not selling my shma bootleg godzilla i got ffor 20 dollars
1. I always take the tags off. I don't particularly care about the value of these figures, I want stuff that looks good on the shelf, and tags get in the way of that.
2. Ok, I don't personally play around with my figures much but I have every right to if I chose to
3. No. I always take stuff out of their packages, no matter how vintage. If you leave it in the package, whats even the point of buying it? You don't even get to see it the way it was meant to be seen.
4. No, thats dumb. Nothing INHERENTLY wrong with bootleg figures. Granted, some are worse quality than others, but if you find decent ones they do a great job of filling in empty spots. And also not everyone can afford vintage stuff. And theres just stuff that never even got proper figures. Bandai never did a standard scale 89 so Im using a bootleg Kaiyodo 89 that fits in extremely well with Bandai's aesthetic.
5.Sure. I can sorta agree, but at the same time, its fun to have a bunch of different themed merch.
That wallet in the vid is totally bitching
This is pretty much how to get money back on figures, not things you shouldn’t do.
You can't tell me what to do! I take off tags (but I keep them) and take them out of the boxes, because my motto is "I buy toys not boxes." However, I totally agree with the mentality of buying what you like, not just anything with a Godzilla on it. It's even more cost-effective to stick to to just one or two types of figures, be it Bandai MMS, Mezco 5 Points XL, or some giant expensive statue. I love Godzilla too, but I look at some of these collections where someone has every version of every monster from Bandai MMS to a $500 statue and it looks both exhausting and expensive.
Exactly, everyone collects in different ways but we can all agree that it's fun
Can confirm. My parents are just buying stuff just cause I like something. Like they once bought me a Godzilla shirt of Godzilla with a guitar, and I told them no. But they bought it anyway just cause it was Godzilla.
@@macboi916 LOL
@@macboi916 your parents are people of culture I can tell
Why dont you just buy a stock if resale value is all you care about? Imagine buying a mass produced toy and never taking it out the box because it might double in price, netting you an extra 30 bucks if you’re lucky
I've been collecting Bandai vinyls consistently for about 12 years, and I'll admit I do take the tags off, but I have every single one stored in a card binder in the order I got the figures, so it's really nice to open it up and see when I got certain figures since I have so many now.
That's a really cool idea!
That's exactly what I've been doing for about a decade
@@eganite89 Great minds think alike!
Bros treating kids toys like collectors cards 😭🙏
I mean they aren’t kids toys but still it’s not that serious
@BORIS67887 Godzilla is a brand that is meant to be experimented with, that's how we got Shin and -1.0, from re-imagining Godzilla
No point in tags lol, Ebay prices aren't a good measure for pricing
They are speculators, not actual real colectors
Don't encourage that type of price inflation and speculation to form
Unlike me:
1.) I do take the tags of the Movie Monster series figures and keep them when I happen to find a card binder.
2.) I usually use my figures for my films. Plus I only own three S.H. MonsterArts and two Revoltech figures.
3.) I had to unbox the figures because they gets sticky and smelly when not opened.
5.) I only have one bootleg, that's nothing important because it's not going to be part of my collection when I get an official Ghidorah.
6.) I have some that is not just Godzilla or kaijus, but there are transformers and Bionicles as well.
hot take: I remove all the tags because i don't plan to resell and don't care what the value is. They look better displayed without them
Same
So basically, buy them and leave them in the attic. I like doing stop Motion, so, no.
You say dont buy bootlegs when legit figure prices are bloated beyond all reason. 500$ for 5 Bandai figures? seems about right. Collecting on a bugdet is impossible, sigh....
This guy's clearly a flipper and doesn't want his precious "investments" being devalued by people being okay with high quality bootlegs.
I broke most of these rules, since i never plan to sell my figures
Is this April Fools?
I take tags of Bandai Ultraman Figures because they are like collector cards where you have to get every number for the kaiju figures. Like Catch Em All but Collect Em All.
To add my opinions about your "1st and 3rd rule":
I do not buy figures for their value. I buy them for my personal enjoyment.
Now once I'm dead whoever I leave my collection to can decide if they want to keep my collection or sell it.
I really don't care because well by that point I'm already DEAD lol.
While I'm still here however I will be enjoying these the way I want to.
I do not plan to sell my stuff.
I'm also very good with money so I personally never have an issue when it comes to my own well being.
Some of the bootlegs have pretty good sculpts with lazy paint jobs. If you’re good at repainting you can end up with a pretty good piece by repainting a bootleg.
I bought a couple of the pink tag figures back then, I unfortunately got the tags off cuz I was naive about it, but was thankfully smart enough to not throw em away.
I miss the pink tag series.
Ok that's good that you kept them! I took the tag off my bandai muto back then and I still regret it.
Figures look better without tags. Tags look better in a binder.
0:58 and 1:58 are contradictory. If I really like a figure, I am purchasing it because I like the character. Thus I want to display it - that oftentimes necessitates removing it from the packaging. Retaining the box for resale value is a good consideration, but unless you are a seller/reseller/scalper it is at best secondary. Also imagine if I never removed my X-Pluses from their boxes. What would be the point in buying them in the first place??? I do save as many boxes as I can though but even then its more about protection in case of moving.
Good point about wearing out the joints. I see a lot of reviewers twist around limbs and remove ball joint connected pieces to depict articulation and it makes me die a little inside. Like, you don't have to force a full 360 of every limb and take apart the figures to show us the poseability. We get it.
Regarding NECA/SHMA/etc and display, I personally wouldn't display them bare on a shelf. I prefer to put them behind glass, like a detolf. It prevents dust, you don't have to worry about fall damage and personally its more aesthetically pleasing. Regular Bandais are fine tho
Yeah who on their right fucking mind pays $200+ on a beautiful display piece like X-plus just to keep it in the box? What a complete slap in the face to the artisans behind those figures who created them for display. Not to rot in a garage.
@@alanstowe2245 I agree, as an artist myself if someone would to buy my product, keep it in the box and store it away and wait for it's value to increase I would be offended that my work wasn't enjoyed, instead only used my talents to fatten their wallets.
YOU CAN'T TELL ME WHAT TO DO!!!! Joking aside, I don't have the room to keep them in box, but I do keep the boxes. And I display without the tag on the figure because I think they look better without them, but I keep the tags. I also collect a broad spectrum of Godzilla stuff, and I am still finding new stuff to add to my collection, I am not a kaiju hoarder I just collect what I like, and that includes just about anything I can afford.
Keeping those figures in the The package is a crime in my mind
The figures are meant to be set free of their cardboard prisons and brought to life with your imagination
I'm glad I found another person who thinks like me
In other words keep your stuff in the box and don’t even look at them wrong because they’re worth money.
Peak content, but you just told me everything I hate, I hate keeping them in boxes, tags ruin the experience, and I buy so many godzilla things, and bootlegs are awesome
Exactly
It ain't hurting the brand of Godzilla buying bootlegs as they already have stacks upon racks of money so a couple bootlegs shouldn't hurt
Whats the point of buying a godzilla toy if you cant pose it, do stop motions with it, cant take it out the box, maybe some stuff can stay in the box such as pop vinyls but other than that you probaly wont, there your figures, do what you want with them
I always take the tags off and put them in baseball card cases cuz honestly I know I’m never selling any of my stuff I love them too much
Meh... That's the point of view for someone who see more the value of the collection other than the collection itself. I like to collect figures, I take them out of the packing, take the tags of (even though I aways keep packing and tags as a different part of the collection) because I don't plan on selling them at all, the value of them doesn't matter to me, I'm happy having them in the collection. When it comes to bootlegs, I really don't mind, and I have so many, just because again, I don't care about the value, I don't care if it obviously looks fake, I'm happy that I have a Keizer Ghidorah in my collection, I don't mind of it's official or not, because in the end of the day, there'll be no difference
Being I don't plan on selling the figures, I take off the tags but tape them together in a picture collage! It looks pretty cool!
rest are valid but the box one doesnt sit right with me, i mean cmon if i wanted a godzilla to be stationary id buy a statue, if im getting a hiya figure or something like that, this boy is gonna be posed and played with
Absolutely distraught. Just spent $900 dollars on my holy grail, the X-Plus Gigantic Series Mechagodzilla, not knowing the box is opaque. Now I can never look at it because I would need to open it to do so, and opening figures is something Godzilla collectors should NEVER do. I’m so friggin mad I paid almost $1k for a brown cardboard box that’s just gonna sit on my floor forever what ever should I do 😭
I bought a Trendmasters Garuda ship NIB, Didn't think twice about taking out of the box. It shoots the missiles really well.
Kinda the trendmasters staple in toys.
Toy Dev: Okay the toy is done.
TM: Needs to shoot a missile.
Toy Dev: but it's a giant monster? how is it---
Trendmasters: MISSILES!!!!
Basically, don’t enjoy the figures, just treat them like diamonds that you should never get near
My guy i watch you long ago when i was 9 too 10 and i come back to see you have grownup my guy
It really has felt like a lifetime ago
1:30 that looks amazing tho-
Next video: Godzilla vs biollante (they are both in their boxes)
I always take off the tags, cuz sometimes i like to play with them, or make small stop motion videos for fun, i would never sell a figure, but i still keep the tags because i think they're pretty cool, i have a couple in baseball card protectors
For vinyls you can use a hairdryer to soften the area around the tag and slowly pull the whole plastic piece out. Loose joints? Apply Pledge's clear floor polish or clear coat nail polish to add some grip to the joint.
I only agree with not buying bootleg figures and the never just buy anything because its Godzilla. Definitely collect what you like and what you can afford. Everything else is just mainly for re sale value. I always remove my tags, but I keep them, I always remove from the box but only keep very special and cool boxes and always play and have fun with your figures. Have fun.
I don't think monster island buddies follows these rules
It's all true... unless you actually LIKE the "cheez" factor of those goofy bootlegs. I mean, it's not that different than the cult movie thing where they're so bad, they're actually charming.
Xplus figures should be at least opened to inspect or removed to display. They were made for it and any Godzilla collector who wants to become familiar with his collection should take it out to familiarize the themselves because they should know what it is they’re actually collecting an with the individual pieces.
Good to know thank you!
Bro I’m not gonna sell my Godzilla vinyls, I’m just gonna take the tag off I don’t care
Personally, I think the most you are gonna pose your ball joint Godzilla figures all the time is if you're doing stop motions on them. I have a NECA 1954 Godzilla and I posed it multiple times. It was hell. Probably do it only once in a while.😉
Yeah, i don't have money, want a funny dinosaur in my bedroom, honestly i'm not gonna buy an original Shin Godzilla figure, too pricey, a bootleg will do just fine for me
"Is this an out of season, April fools joke?"
Sure you can remove things from the packaging, remove tags, and play with the figures until the parts wear out. If it's worth it to you to make your collection worth less someday. On the other hand, some of the packaging looks pretty nice. It's totally up to the individual, but it's at least nice to be aware of what you're doing before you do it.
Bruh, if I get a figure, I plan to PLAY WITH IT! That means pretty much going against everything in this video. But I’m fine with that, cause when it comes to toys, I’m more of a player, than a displayer
Same! I’m going to play with it
summary: buy the things you like and leave them to gather dust and then forget about them. you're simply sleazy
I take the tags off them off if there more common but if there the limited mms I keep the tags on
Big stress on number 5. I regret buying those tacky POP figures a few years ago. Could have just saved for actual posable figures instead. You don’t want to be the guy who has a Godzilla themed object in every room.
The year was 2017, and I had only recently got into Godzilla. I was watching a review for the SH monster arts, Godzilla Filius. Wanting one to call my own. I looked in Amazon and bought the Bandai vinyl version which I mistook for the SH monster arts Godzilla figure it was $25 then it is $40 now when I received it I took off the tag and threw it into the garbage never to be seen again. Once I realized what I had done it had been too late as it had been three months since I received the figure so I now live with a bandai vinyl, Godzilla Filius without the tag.
I suppose I ought to mention the time I took the metal pink Shin Godzilla figure and removed its tag, which thankfully I had learned by now to keep the tags so I put it into a protective baseball card case. thank God
This is resale tips... I buy my toys because, well, i wanna have fun, and make videos and i don't care about resale value because im not a damn scalper or resaler, so some of them are pointless for most people
Vinyl figures don’t typically get loose joints. The reform even if they are loose after playing. This isn’t like a regular action figure with abs and pvc pairing at the joints
I take off the tags (but I do keep them) because I use my figures for photography and short films. I take them out of their packages because I don't feel like I truly own them otherwise. I'm not planning on reselling them anyway 🤷♂️. And bootleg figures are hilarious.
No 6 my money my wish...you buy what you want to buy ...dont let some random youtuber tells you what you shouldnt buy
Yeah, Im taking that big ass tag off of my gloriously simple Godzilla
I pulled the tags off, but keep them save in a card sleeve. Does it lower the value of the figure? Yes, do i care? No. I mean these are my toys and i wouldn't sell them anytime soon. Its your figure, display them how ever you want. The reason i took the tags of at the first place cuz i bought these figures from my trip at Japan, the tags are a lot safer if i just pulled them off and keep them in a book or something.
Plus if you have a small shelf like me, it is harder to display them with the tags on. And if you realy pushed them trough, you might ended up bending
the tags.
Nah dude, do whatever the heck you want, but everyone collects different. Unless you're buying stuff purely to resell it (boring) display and play however you feel my dudes. If you're an inbox collector, sure, keep that stuff mint on box, but if not, free your sweet 'zillas from their plastic prisons I say! There's no rules in toy collecting.
Ok I have to admin I do have three bootleg figures in my collection💀
Noooo 😱
Yeah...
But there not that bad I have a bootleg mechagodzilla 1975, gmk ghidroha, and a mecha king Ghidorah.
The rest if my collection is from bandai, neca, or sh monsterarts.
@@danielsw1954 very nice 👌
ok hear me out i take of the tags but i will never take it off rare figures like if its easy to buy i take the tags off and put it in a box but if its rare its staying on like the godzilla store exlusives if i get one tag on if its cheap and from amazon or ebay for a good price tag off if its an exlusive or event one tags always stay on but i would buy bootlegs like an obvious bootleg for a joke
I take the tags off but I don’t throw them away.
Also, I think I want to say that’s a nice collection black shelves make the figures really stand out I really like it that’s a cool idea
Thank you!
I only have 10 things and two of them are bootleg, the bootlegs work fine I don’t care just wanted the Kaiju
I do take them some out the box BUT they’re all boxes I can easily put them back in and also store other things in, like the tags
I only buy what I want even if it’s bootleg! And I mainly just have them displayed and such
If your curious my collection is,
Funko Godzilla, the start of my collection
NECA Godzilla Monster if Monsters
NECA King Kong
Final Wars Gigan
Bootleg figure set
Bootleg Christmas ornaments
Toho Series Shin Godzilla (that was a gift)
Godzilla Monopoly
Godzilla Tokyo Clash
Godzilla Kaiju World Wars
Plus a WHOLE BUNCHA COMICS
i'm about to start my godzilla collector Journey and since I'm a starter those tips really helped 🙂
I remove the tags, but I still keep them I don’t throw them away ^_^
You got me fucked up if you think im not gonna play with my godzilla figures
I want to play with my funny lizard toys, and im not gonna let resell prices stop me
Recently got back into my Godzilla movies and took my action figures from childhood out of the basement. I regret how bad I scratched some but I have many good memories having mini battles in my living room lol. I’m thinking of collecting again, now I know what to do!
I first Bandai figure I ever bought was Shin Godzilla’s second form, I ripped the tag and tossed it almost immediately I mean I was just a kid, I love having all my figures look nice and new but at the same time I love them all and could never get rid of any so I’m not too worried about having them be brand new for reselling purposes
Look neat and all, but this really only works if you plan to just sell or display? But for me I buy Godzilla toys to play and recreate or create fight scenes since that why I love Godzilla.
Plus I have attachment to things I buy
That's a very good point 👍
Thank you!
Yeah I learned my lesson of throwing my tags away
Oh no I just did the things that you said not to ....I'm still going to it like talking tags but I put portecter slives and I keep them and in the past I see anykind of Kaiju relate that I like get them just because I still kinda doing it. But I opened rare toys some times and Gleen it's our stuff we can do everything we want 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣
Very true, everyone has a different way of collecting so you should just do what makes you happy!
11%10
Perfect
Thank you ☺️
People really need to stop think about collecting as an investment.
The issue with this video is that your assuming collectors are buying these figures for resell, While there are collectors that do this (Scalpers is what I call them as they sell stuff twice then their worth), aren't buying these products for enjoying them but to sell them for a high price.
The tags are annoying, and will become a problem as time goes on if life has it's way, they are magnets for mold and other bacterial pathogens that no matter how clean you keep your figures.
Wearing out the figure is just a sign to show how much the figure is loved. a figure with loose joints is often the byproduct of someone who played with it a ton, that shows that toy was more than just something to resell later, that toy was a friend!
three urks me to no end, WHY buy a product if you just leave it in the package? packages take up too much space, and I tried storing my figures (IN PACKAGE) away in a closet. then a year later I went to get them to pop the suckers open cause I realized how stupid it was until I realized, MOLD! that's right mold grew on the boxes on the figures, S.H. MONSTER ARTS mind you. And I was forced to throw them away. So I shall forever hold a resentment towards anyone who says 'leave it in the box!'.
Bootlegs can actually be a good affordable alternatives. and a crafty collector can easily fix or rebuild these knockoffs into something new. My KO NECA Godzilla 89 sits proudly on my desk.
number five, Well I got a nice goji T-Shirt for my wife which she wears because she got it from me for her birthday. I also got her an Anguirus plushy that I got for her. And I got a godzilla wallet that SHE made for me. Hmm. I think I made a good choice since the plushy and shirt is what I got her before she said yes. (No, the plushie was not because she said yes, but I like to think anguirus helped in the situation).
In the end it's gonna be up to the collector. these are all things that pertain to you personally. MAYBE you should make a video where it's more helpful for the collector to FIND godzilla products of all types. depending on the preference of the individual, not to just you.
But for real, Action figures are for playing, THATS because they are ACTION figures
Tip if you wanna play:
Put them in one pose so they dont become loose unless your gonna make a stopmotion cause you filmed it not just watched it and forget the cinematic madness you did in your mind😂
Bro, I was like seven I took off the tags and now I don’t know where they are
I like taking off the tag because I can use it as a card 💳
If you're first priority is to keep your figures in a resalable state maybe you're collecting for the wrong reasons my guy
I have stopped messing with them joint because of you!
I always take off the tags, but I still keep them and mainly have the toys for display. Most of them I tend to keep.
Its only about opinions for buying
Wow ur voice go so much deeper
So basically your suggesting to only concern yourself with the resale value.
this video should’ve been:
1: absolutely remove the tags. They’re ugly.
2: play with your figures all the time.
3: open your toys because they’re toys that were meant to be played with.
4: absolutely buy bootlegs if they look good enough.(which in a lot of cases they do) They’re way cheaper.
5: if you like Godzilla and see something godzilla related that you want, Fucking buy it dude. who cares. It’s your collection.
I AM GONNA TAKE ALL MY NECA FIGURES OUT OF THE BOX AND YOU CANT STOP ME (burning goji 1995, GMK goji 2001 and normal Heisei goji)
Every time a make a decision with either keeping or removing the tag it feels painful I wanna keep the tag on the figure but I use Godzilla toys for stop motion using the tag in the stop motion is stupid however I cut the tags of and keep them secure in a collection but once I’m done with the stop motion I want to put the tags back on very painful once you do something and you can’t undo your mistake
“Don’t do this, don’t do that,” all for the sake of the resale price. Brotha I ain’t buying them to sell 😂
Too bad. I’m taking that tag off, HAHAHAHAHA
