How can you test the door lights/handles? What would need to be replaced it that was the cause? Is there a fuse you could remove to test if that's the cause of the drain?

Mate this is really good extra info thank you. Last battery off RAC bloke had no idea BMW need battery registered told him why from a previous vid of yours. I use car everyday, I have use boot battery switch to storage mode when go holiday if it’s over 2 weeks.
Extremely good advice. Thank you. I realise my battery drainedfrom leaving an aftermarket blue tooth device in the 12v socket near the gear lever. I would think that the 12v socket would turn off when locked but after watching your advice I realise that's the issue.

As always, excellent info. for us all. I am on my fourth BMW, a 2013 E70 X5 35i and I am having power issues. So here is my question... if the 12v battery was good, no big issues going on. But then, the electric parking brake went bad so I had it replaced and then it went bad again a week later, so they replaced it again under warranty but said they had to reprogram the car...I then experienced failure to start. Could it be that when they reprogrammed the car as they told me they had to do when it damaged the second parking break module, they reset the battery from old to new? I am wondering if this is now the problem I am experiencing because the car starts at times and other times, it needs a jump with a battery pack, only using 1-2%. It seems so minimal and now, after listening to you here, I am thinking the battery may have a problem that is coming from a charge issue because it was reprogrammed to new but the older original battery is in car still. Thoughts?

I just purchased a '15 X5 and 2 days after, put in a USB adapter in place of the cigarette holder and the next day the battery (only 2 weeks old replaced by BMW) was completely dead. Neither my mechanic or BMW Service said it could have been due to the charger and as soon as I removed it, the issue went away
Hello,I can relate to that,I had a new battery fitted a month ago,I have a Bluetooth adaptor in the usb,and it’s lit up all the time,I charged my battery up to 100%,within 3 hours my battery was showing 75% charge,I could believe something so small could do that,I did a hundred mile drive,left with 76% battery,got home battery was showing 56%!!!!!,all my stereo etc lights up well,so maybe not alternator

Quick question. My battery level is always 72-78% and no more (6 year old bmw battery). Now I tried to use the 12v at the front and I couldn’t because there was some metal in it I struggled to get out but besides that. Could that cause my battery to be going low?

Have a similar battery drain issue on my late E39 (2003).Had a new battery fitted at the dealer, then about 6 months later the alarm started going off and the car would not start ! Everything is original as supplied by BMW, any idea what it could be. I have a new hedgehog fitted by the dealer. Hope you can help, car is 530d Sport Touring, one owner.

I have been reading in to this and seems like there are so many things on battery drain.
For one I want to mention that I own an E92 and I have wired in a sub from the aftermarket sony radio that was fitten in by the previous owner and ran it for two years with no issues. Only lately started noticing some issues with drainage and removing the sub and radio did not help so I'm on a futher quest to find what it is.
Battery was tested to be good and I recharged it once for the test, alternator charges a good 14V although I haven't tested if it drains when off, and the odd thing is that quite often the car will always perfectly do one crank and then stop. Using a 2nd battery quite often would help but not always, strangely enough using better leads worked whereas using those cheap ones worked when starting from a car (and for some reason 2k revs helps start), this currently has given me a clue that it might be a grounding issue as currently my theory is that if I can ground to another car it seems to work but not sure. And also that the car would drain only if the car remains unlocked. I'm treating it as a clue to the problem.
So just wanted to add to this video that I have also read that you should check your Engine Grounds, that starters ground can go off/unscrew apparently too, and then check if you have IBS on the negative cable on your battery. If you have IBS then some have said disconnecting (or for some was disconnected so connecting...) fixed the issue; given you might have to change the part if disconnecting helped.
Hi Dean I have a 520 diesel 2007, had to get the AA out has had a complete dead battery and they said something was draining the battery, I went through your video and I couldn’t find anything. It was running okay for a week or two with no problems, now it is coming up with central electronic failure, I went through your video on central electronics it doesn’t have the 7.5 fuse in it, now it will start but there is no electronics working at all on the car, just wondering if you could help. ok, so i have a mystery situation that i'm trying to solve. In my 2008 X5 4.8 that start fine first thing on a morning or any other time of the day or night after sitting, however if i pull into a place and turn the car off for 2 or 5 minutes when i go to start the car again I get what feels like a dead/weak battery start. the fuel pump has recently been change and i thought that would of solved the issue but it hasn't, alternators are also related to poor starts but as i mentioned it happens no other times other than when turning on after shortly turning off. How should i proceed trouble shooting this matter?

howzit Dr Dean bmw e90 here from South Africa Tried removing most relevant fuses car stay awake only when removing fuse 51 /start stop gearbox light went of.
Car was a no start what i have noticed i dont need to put my foot on brake pedal to start the car just press push start button done by previous owner

Hello this a great video! The doors on my car are exactly as you stated. How do I take the lighting off because every other day I get battery charge discharging while stopped. Then 5he ECM pops up and then it goes down hill from there. I bought my battery from BMW and am not sure if they coded it. I would have hoped they did the right thing but it's been one problem after another with this car. It's a 750i 2011. Thank You for the examples of what causes battery drain.. I have purchased a battery tender and use it for my car nightly! Just need to figure out the problem can't afford the high cost of taking it to the BMW dealer

My bmw f11 520 has a new bmw battery registration done and car goes to sleep when you lock it but it keeps saying charge battery I’ve done that and falult returns after 3 days or so it seams like every thing is going to sleep the only other thing I can say is the air suspension dump valve needs to be changed as occasionally it comes up with driving comfort restriction so may this slowly take battery down any ideas
Just found this video, I'm 2 years late, I have E60 530d 2005ish, had no problems untill recently the dash kept retuning clock, trip mpg ect to zero with a car on lift, yes battery went flat had new one fitted but not registered to car, went flat again took battery back under warranty they put a more expensive and well known replacement in, the mechanic checked with his computer gadget found a lot of old faults registered so cleared them but said it seems that my BMW didn't give the option to register, does this sound correct, I'm touching wood as I haven't had problem since but panic everytime I go to use car after a couple of days. You sound very knowledgeable what area do you live in wish you were close by as I need someone like yourself to service check my car. O yes I have subscribed very good video.

I fixed the battery drain on my Ford Kuga by removing the fuse of the touch sensitive door handles. Pity I replaced the battery and alternator first! The door handles were switching on the computer every five minutes when the car was all locked up and switched off. I needed two volt meters and make it think the doors were shut and locked, then looked through all the fuses in all the fuse boxes. One meter had to have very long cables as needed to see the amps the battery was pulling while in the boot. I never fixed the handles as the central locking still worked as did the boot catch.
My issue is that if I close the trunk it drains the battery. Now I put a small piece of cloth/towel on the latch which keeps it unlocked but battery does not drain. How do I fix it? It's 323i 2009

You’re vids are very informative, but I had to take a break from it because, it seems like BMW is riddled with issues, whereas cars that are cheaper don’t have half the issues that BMW comes with and they cost a grip.
That’s definitely been my experience. I get in the car and before starting it wondering what’s not going to work today or which dash light is going to be on. Trading it away asap. Never again

Your Key Fob battery is dead.
Love my 2005 e60 530d but I now have a battery drain problem, why is it I can't find anywhere to look at the problem, are they unknolageable or won't admit they have no clue, even bmw agents have to use a diagnostic kit at great expense and still can't fix the electrical fault at a sensible price.
Just out of curiosity, does anyone have experience with Bavsound BMW speaker upgrades? I was planning on saving up for a full kit for my E82, but after watching this... 🧐 They certainly market themselves as being factory system compliant.
They are high quality and I think they’re worth it. Bought the kit for an old e46 and it was plug and play. Did it myself and instructions provided were excellent.

Boss your X5 has non of those traits you mentioned. Your battery does not need to be programmed. Your car being an E53 is too old and that telemetry wasnt put into your particular vehicle. 0nly 2004 E60's and newer vehicles have the I drive. Its probably your airpump in the trunk causing the battery drain as if you have a leaky air mechanism the battery has to be on constantly on inflating your air bags to keep the truck level and air bags filled up. If that doesnt solve your problem then your truck is not falling asleep.

The car wakes up and goes to sleep overnight constantly. Hence the reason for the battery drain also. If I'm not using the car for a few days or a week or more it goes on a trickle charger. Case solved.

I am getting Nextbase dash cams with parking protection ie protection while parked so will be using battery. Will this cause a problem?
I had a next base dash can hardwired into my e92 3 years ago and so far have had no problems with battery drain. My car can sit unused for 2 or 3 weeks sometimes purely because I have a yaris as a daily and e92 is for longer trips.
My start/stop button light stays on, on my BMW.

My IBS seems to be broken, if I charge the battery the car starts and runs fine but the battery drains so much over night that the car won't crank or even turn on the radio. I replaced the battery with a fully charged new one but my IBS tool doesn't let me register the new battery, always says communication error. I ordered a brand new IBS and hopefully that fixes my issue. I really don't wanna go through all of my door handles or the navi. (2006 530i e61 n52)

My aftermarket starter was what was causing a drain for me.. guess it wasn’t installed properly
When I purchased my E60 M5 a few years ago I kept getting “ high rate of battery discharge “ every time I decided to take it out for a spin which sometimes could be six or seven weeks since the last time i took it out , I decided to purchase a trickle charger recommended by bmw ( CTEK ) which has been brilliant btw , the car starts perfectly I’ve had no problems regarding flat battery etc but still have the same fault pop up which btw disappears after 15 to 20 mins when driving…. apparently it could be an old tracker buried in the car somewhere which I found the paperwork to 🤷♂️…
That’s easy to find had one on mine and ripped it out. You just need to know where to look that’s what was causing my battery drain until I removed it. Not hard to source it and find it if you know how and have the right tools to find it. All I can say is good luck when you find it removing it they are a b***ch to remove and you will need to do rewiring or your car wont start after.
@@BMWDoctor the mechanic did say that he also said leave it be as it’s not affecting the cars performance or driving ability but I’m thinking what if the tracker decides to play up ( can this happen)

That’s not normal at all. None of these cars should have a battery drain. And as for tracker I had it on my M5 which I pulled out and removed some big BRICK from factory the trackers back then wasn’t some small device they was MASSIVE.

Hello BMW Doctor I hope this finds you well. And I am sure you get a million questions. As an expert on these cars I was hoping you could point me in the right direction. I have a BMW 525D E61 2006 55 pate estate. It has developed a hunting like a misfire. The glow plugs and glow plug module has been changed. I found out the previous owners had blanked the swirl flaps. The EGR is blanked off. I said is it an injector fault but the garage seems to think no. The garage have effectively given up and just say to me it is old just get rid. Which I hate when people are like this. They want the easy service jobs. I am at a loss. The car judders all the time like it is starved of fuel. it never stalls just feels like it is misfiring. Do you or anyone have any ideas on what it might be. All the very best
I had that message also so i replaced my battery at a garage and registered it still gave me that message for 2 days, after 2 days the message went away.

(Thank god this is a recent posted video so you will respond 😭)so I have a 2005 545i from auction.I have no after market parts at all car is fully stocked besides exhaust.i don’t have a high discharge but when car is sleep & I wake up the next morning I have to jump it .I tested alternator,and got a new battery so the only things I can track down now from watching this is ibs,battery registration,fuses/relays or the radio this is a pain in the ass!!!

There should be a physical key that pops out of the key fob… use that key and unlock your car like it was the 1980s

I will warn you bro it ain’t what you think and it’s not my car I bought it for my mrs but it’s really for my other channel which so far has been doing very very well 😉 but I will post it on here aswell. If you want real and proper information on how everything works, then it has to be this long. That’s because I know every single problem and tell you every single reason why it’s happening. Unlike most who will copy this and not even know a damn thing about why it’s causing the battery drain or not be able to explain it as they don’t know anything what there talking about. I could of made this a lot longer trust me. BMW is a complex car and there is alot to explain.

Go to a bmw service center or if you have AAA or AARP ask if any of their tow ppl were bmw mechanics they would also know how to program/ register the battery.
