    I own this exact model, upgraded to 32GB and 2TB of storage, as you had mentioned you might do in the beginning of this video. Love it as the gaming version of the XPS 15 (great build quality, bright screen, same size/footprint, powerful CPU, good battery life), though it does require a good bit of tinkering to have it run well.
    Repaste, undervolt both CPU and GPU, and potentially raise the back of the laptop to increase airflow to the fans on the bottom. I can play Division 2 at high/ultra settings at ~80-100FPS with the GPU at ~76c and CPU at 81-83C with zero throttling below 3.9GHz. If you lower the CPU clock speed to 3.5GHz or so, you can get the CPU down to the low-70s and give the GPU some room to clock into the 1600s more frequently.

      Try to research about the history of old Razer laptops and other products. There alot of complaints have heard that many of their motherboards and other devices had gone haywire and went cray after they bought it not in the longest time. Customer support is a flop to Razer, either, all of their products are just limited to one year warranty and not given a chance for two or more- then if it's anything technical hardware problem with the product you just bought they'll tell it's just software related issue and wait for the warranty expires till the year ends. You won't like that after saving it up with your $3k worth of dollars.. but with the new Razer Blade Pro, we still don't know how long it'll last so you got to wait more and be patient about it.
      I know this is cool, it has a minimalistic look, and ergonominically design par to MacBook Pro but it is just not worth it, yet. You see , thin laptops just sacrifice too much capacity on performances just for thermal management, Max Q laptops such as this one with Razer are just a scam- very overpriced but not even closest to benchmark with the desktop version of GPU (well it is called Max Q for a reason) you can get with non max q laptops though to get the closest ones.
      If you do still like Light Gaming Laptops, I recommend you with Asus Zephyrus S GX701 or GX501 on last gen specs from 1060 or 1080 (still highly recommend on last gen than new), Alienware 51m (beware with dell's customer support to this), Gigabyte Aero 15x, and last the budget gaming laptop Mech 17 from Eluktronics (scores a perfect review and outstands performance in 2060 over 2080 max q cards).
      P.S. Don't trust with Razer just yet and sorry for the long post. I just want you to spend your big bucks very wisely.

      DJ SICK__BOY the thermals are quite good. Not as good as a ROG Zephyrs but both clocked higher and cooler than a GS60. With a repaste it never thermal throttles and by going into game mode it also has a slight overclock when you go to game mode. (I own one.) Also as much I dislike Apple myself please stay civilized don’t type in all caps it’s just obnoxious.

      @@tommybro5313 I'll vouch for this; I had a laptop fuck up twice. Once within the warranty, once after. The first time the motherboard died and the second time the battery exploded. Razer wanted around $500 to replace the fucking battery. Razer's appeal is strictly aesthetics but they don't have the cooling or quality control to back it up. I'll never get another Razer laptop again especially with the premium price I paid for utterly nothing. Absolute garbage.

    For $1499 (usd), just a couple weeks ago, I picked up a Power Spec 1520 (Micro Center store brand based on Clevo chassis /bios). It's spec'd exactly the same (2070 isn't maxq) as the unit tested in this vid.
    The chassis is plastic and the 144hz monitor has light bleed at the corners, but for the price, the tradeoffs are minimal and value is extreme. The screen even has G-Sync active. And it had ZERO bloatware pre-installed.
    Regarding Razer, I recently had a sound issue that I thought was due to software issue with the Razer Surround or Razer Synapse control center. It turns out that the issue was my other laptop about to enter a bsod loop. But, Razer customer support was very aggressive. So, if they have the same response to hardware issues, I'm sure that's part of the cost of entry. And, I've owned a Razer Chroma mouse for 5 years. So, that high priced item had good enough quality.
    Incidentally, my previous two gaming laptops were Asus. Their customer service is pretty much owners helping each other on the forums, short of sending them the laptop. Fortunately, I had only self installed upgrades as "service" for the first one that lasted 5 years and got 3.5 years out of this recent one (and will soon be digging into it to see what its problem is).

    So just wanted to update ya Jay. I received my Mid 2019 today (i7 9750h version) the Display ribbon cable is not over the ram anymore. It runs between them, and it's also got a bunch of tape like stuff all around it. I am guessing it's a heatshield.
    The temps on the 9750h version are also vastly superior. Neither the CPU or GPU go over 75c under any load I have tested. The Vapor Chamber is not black, and it's thicker than 8750h version (well the 2018 version anyway).
    That's with no UV, a 150mhz GPU overclock, Gaming Mode (Creator mode is gone) and no repaste so stock. A repaste will likely yield better results. However it's not really needed with those temps.
    I did add thermal pads between the VC and backplate, however I don't think that would account for the drop. It's Razers doing or the 9750h is cooler chip or something.

    • @gunndygaming
      @gunndygaming Před 5 lety +1

      Yeah...many of the 8750h laptops run better than the 9750h versions because you can typically undervolt the 8750h by -150mV and maintain 3.9 Ghz consistantly. the 9750h runs hotter and doesn't undervolt as much, and typically thermally throttles a lot more, resulting in sustained speeds under 3.9Ghz. So the higher max speed is mostly irrelevant in a < 24mm thin-and-light laptop. In the 26mm+ range the 9750h has more thermal room to stretch it's legs and may prove worth the upgrade.
      Undervolting my Legion Y740 8750h, I never see over 92 degrees even when rendering a video. Under full stress test scenario I will get to 94-95 and see slight throttling, but that's worst case scenario and not real world use.
