I’ve seen both endings to both _Star Wars: The Force Unleashed_ games, and I must admit that Vader knew what he was doing. Love them or hate them, both _Force Unleashed_ games give Galen “Starkiller” Marek several great storylines.
Probably a bit too popular but "Sunny" in "Omori"
2 endings it is highly implied that he died, but if you wan't to stay true to your statement of
"showing the protagonist die before the end" (since "implying" death isn't technically "showing") try the "knife" ending since he does die on screen in that ending.
sorry a bit wordy lol.
People say that in Outlast miles Upshur survives when the wall Rider regenerates his gunshot wounds to save his life
Lee Everett from TellTale The Walking Dead S1
I was hoping to see Castlevania 2 and Final Fantasy “6” where Shadow stays behind in Kefka’s crumbling tower.

There should be this exact comment on every single one of watch mojos videos… you are a hero
@@sebastiancaris It doesn’t take more than a few minutes to include it in the description but they need to get those watch minutes 😕
Zack Fair ;_;
Thank you
Am I allowed to add infinite warfare
Rdr was really heartbreaking for both John and Arthur.
Ouch.
My rdr2 bugged out and I had to do Arthur's last ride twice
@@doctorjimrustlesmd horrid
Great games, but both are murderers and robbers, they deserved what they got.
I was furious at the ending of RDR1. John was finally given a second chance and then the authorities went,
“Nah we want all of the outlaws dead and that includes you”
I figured Arthur was gonna die but John getting lit up like that at the end of Red Dead Redemption had me sick as a teen 😂
Lol ikr I was so lost like did that really just happen 😭😭😭
@@QUEReacts They even let you deadeye before he gets wrecked by the whole squad 😂. I was like “WTF?!?? John just got destroyed after all of that?!?! 😨”
it goes to show that the most unexpected Betrayal is those that you never think have it in them to do so and that's your friends and/or family. while it's apparent that John and the Villain aren't exactly friends they were allies with a similar goal one wanted redemption while the other wanted the former's gang dead.
So yeah I was speculating both Red Dead and Red Dead 2 as #1 But as much as I like Red Dead 2, I love the PS3 Red Dead John Marston since it was a shocker. I wasn’t surprised it made top list.
John Marston's will always bring a tear to the eye, especially if you play him in the good path since he does everything right only to be betrayed. Noble 6's final stand was both sad yet badass, it serves as a passing of the torch to Master Chief who then tears through the Covenant becoming their worst nightmare.
I think it’s kind of annoying how starkiller dies at the end of the force unleashed since he was so powerful. It’s also kinda annoying how you get the dark saber at the end of the game so you don’t even get to use it for very long.
It was Palpatine, not Vader.
I've played through the game twice and didn't obtain the Dark Saber. How do I do so?
@@rainbowpegacornstudios I can’t exactly remember since I haven’t played in a long time but there are probably many tutorials on youtube
yeah i hate when that happened for that reason too
well 2 things he died for plot reasons he's the most op and most powerful mf in star wars and if jedi fallen order 2/jedi survivor does good then theirs ment to be force unleashed 3 getting made
While I love Red Dead Redemption’s ending, it’s RDR2’s ending that I love the most
Arthur’s death hits me every time
I cried so hard when John died, I sobbed when Arthur died.
Yea I agree, I feel like Arthur's was more impactful. I'm sure people would be upset if Arthur was put on here over John for some reason.
Arthur’s was more emotional but Johns was definitely more unexpected so that’s probably why they had that as number 1.
@@datsapaddlin6449 yeah true
@@minhaga you are not alone my friend
Honorable Mentions:
Resident Evil VILLAGE
Persona 5 (Bad Ending/Sellout)
Hatred
NieR Automata
Final Fantasy X
Zack's death in Crisis Core DESTROYED me. Even knowing it was inevitable, it hurt. The battle beforehand made it such an emotional experience, and the music was unbelievable how much it sold the scene.
The saddest part was when characters began disappearing from his DMW wheel until it was stuck on Aerith, hinting that, as he was dying, his memories were being erased and his last thoughts were on his girlfriend. 😢
@@lacountess,
And Cloud's grief-stricken scream as his best friend died a truly heroic death after Zack himself, in his last moments of life, named Cloud 'his living legacy', proof that Zack Fair was once alive...
Halo reach ending was the only game to ever make me shed a tear. What a fantastic game
I heard Conker’s Bad Fur Day was originally gonna end with Conker committing a suicide gunshot, but that was cut to save room for a sequel, which did not happen!
Damn
Wow talk about wasted potential for a idea that sadly never could become an reality
That should've at least been an alternate ending.
The true ending is that conker saved the world
Instead we got a remake that was... To be honest, not as good as the original, especially in regard to the multiplayer, and the fact that you can use cheats to change the melee weapon used by players in the racing game from the N64 version's multiplayer.
Medal of Honor is such an under appreciated game . This game was absolutely insane , I loved every minute of that campaign
I loved it as well, and for trying to accurate, it did really. I think a few reasons why people hated it was trying to be cod and trying to be accurate, that's my take.
@@michaelwiff2576 it's campaign is really better and accurate than COD. Cod games are really hollywood-esque
@@user-iu2ui1fu8i amen brother.
The mission where you get to use the. 50 cal and shoot from more than 1500m is my favorite, I crawled back to see 2000m. The music at the ending was surreal and fit in the way Rabbit dies
@@danielwilliams5139 the mission where you play as Deuce?
John’s death in Red Dead made me reconsider my life and be grateful for everything I have, it really shows how important of a character he is
To this day, Persona 3 has me in wonder with how it remains the only entry where the protagonist dies.
"You either die a hero or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain".
I'd love to see a very successful game where we became so invested in the character due to the world being shattered apart, and is saved based on brilliant writing...
Then in order to save that said world, he had to slay his fellow guardians as they became corrupt, until he is the last guardian left.
Imagine the connections we had, and we became the ending for them.
From the beginning you know the end- this is how I like to describe Halo: Reach. Based on the previous games you know Reach falls. Halo: Reach is the story of a group of Spartans that watched it happen.
Remember Reach
"Hey...would you say I became a hero?"
R.I.P Zack
I’ve been playing video games for over 20 years. The good ending to infamous 2 is one of only 2 times I’ve ever cried to a game.
Captain Nick Reyes death from COD IW single player hit me pretty hard. Despite he lost his life. He died a noble hero saving the earth from the deadly Settlement Defence Front by destroying their shipyard crippling their fleet.
I was waiting for this to be mentioned. No joy.
I know not a whole lot of people like this game, but Nick Reyes in COD: Infinite Warfare really hit me. He has survived for so long I thought he would’ve made it, and his death (especially how he died) caught me off guard. Reyes is also one of my favorite COD characters, which made his death particularly hurtful.
eh he was a lifeless robot. ethan was more human than reyes. ethan was also a lifeless robot literally 🤪
Tons of amazing games! The ones that stuck with me the most had to of been Red Dead Redemption, Bioshock, Ezio in AC and even though they weren't the main character, I played Gears 1-3 couch co op as Dom with my best friend and he became my favorite character. Absolutely killed me inside.
I love your channel, Keep up the awesome work
U guys saved the best for last, great video 😎🤟
Thank you! 😁
The Force Unleashed and Halo: Reach are roller coaster ride games. Action, music, visuals, scriptwork, you name it. (whistles)
Arthur and John's deaths were both heartbreaking.
Nice I’ve been looking for this this looks like a reupholster from a few years ago even has the same games in the same order
I've played through season 1 of The Walking Dead 3 times and I cried each time Lee died even though I knew it happens. That's how much you get attached to these characters during the playthrough. Even playing season 2 when Kenny returns it brings tears to my eyes. I unfortunately haven't been able to play any of the other seasons but, I really want to.
If you shoot him the gasp or sigh or breath was his actor crying
If you have gamepass they are free in that
Watching Cole die in LA Noire was heart wrenching. Then of course the antagonists speaking at his funeral made me mad. I had wish that Cole did survive his death and is just hiding out somewhere as potential sequel material.
It just shows how corruption will never stop and those will power will continue to destroy
The death of Arthur Morgan tore me up😔
It's a really shame that Tales Of Berseria wasn't on the list, it deserves to be on there, the ending was emotional and seeing the protagonist sacrifice her live was heartbreaking
Great list, honourable mention to ff15…choosing the photo that ends up with you in heaven is gold
My list:
5. God of War 3
4. Call of Duty Infinite Warfare
3. TWD S1
2. Infamous 2
1. Red Dead Redemption 1 & 2
"Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare" - Captain Reyes of the UNSA leads his team on a final mission on Mars against the Settlement Defense Front. They assault a ship dock in orbit above Mars, but in order destroy it, Reyes heads to the control room all by himself while his remaining team commandeers a ship to fire at the docks. The explosions throw him out into space, and then some shrapnel breaks his helmet, suffocating him, but his sacrifice allows his team to achieve victory against the SDF.
Lets goo! Halo: Reach Made the list!!
Red Dead Redemption for sure, i know you play jack after john dies but still it's truly a top 20 game
The endings for Mafia (Definitive Edition specifically, it added so much) and LA Noire killed me.
Cole McGrath's death broke me his death came out of nowhere for me ( I didn't hear the part where the ray sphere would kill not only the beast but all the conduits.) and when that happened I broke down crying.
Me too my friend but there is a solution to this problem never chose the good ending 😂😂
The DLC in Bioshock Infinite is worth a playthrough too. It sets the events in motion for the first Bioshock game, and Elizabeth dies in the end.
I'm stuck where a witch is in a graveyard and if you don't kill her or any of the guys who are attacking you, she heals and its a loop
Best choice for number 1. That one hurt my soul and still does.
Nice job at getting rid of the spam bots! Much appreciated! 😁👍
Both Red Dead’s and Infinite Warfare are special ones in my heart
Someone else already mentioned it in the comments, but I have to second Planescape: Torment for this list. Plenty of games have the main character die at the end, but it's rare to play a game where the entire premise centers around the protagonist seeking to regain his mortality in order to finally be able to die and rest in peace.
My Shepard survived the Destroy ending
Zero's Death from Megaman Zero 4 was so Good they made a fan-made game to bring Zero back to life.
I enjoyed the campaign in Call Of Duty Infinite Warfare and I’m surprised it wasn’t on here. The ending was very unexpected and it made the story so much more impactful.
Same!
"The honor was all mine, Metal-1."
All some perfect choices would of loved a honorable mention to final fantasy 15 but still great selection
Horror movie trailers spoil who dies and who gets to live. In video games you have the option to either stay alive for the remainder of the game or die a few times to get a game over. It's more complicated than one might think. ;D
Thanks!
Welcome!
Thank you so much for the support !
out of all the characters that die at the very end of their games, these are the saddest endings to me personally 😭
1. Ethan Winters Resident Evil Village
2. John Marston Red Dead Redemption
3. Asura Asura's Wrath
4. Booker Dewitt Bioshock Infinite
5. Lee Everetts The Walking Dead
6. Zach Crisis Core Final Fantasy 7
7. Amaterasu Okami
8. Protagonist Persona 3
9. Commander Shepard Mass Effect 3
10. Titus Final Fantasy 10
What about Nier Automata
Tidus is alive in X-2 True Ending route
I'm pretty sure Amaterasu does not die in the end of her game. In fact, she goes home to the Celestial Realm with Waka and you play as her son in the sequel.
Ethan winters doesnt die. when rose is an adult when the van drives away that she is in you can see a lonely man walking down the side of the road as the van passes and one hand is bandaged it's actually ethan winters but rose doesn't know it's him
Lee's death will forever be thesaddest death i've ever experienced in a game . Everytime I watch his final moments it makes mw sad
Other honorable/infamous mentions:
Megaman Zero 4
Final Fantasy XV
Super Fire Pro Wrestling Special
Another World
Yes these deaths did catch me off guard and wish had made it to the end in video games on the PS3 or on the PS4 or on my switch like Infamous 2 and Outlast and L.A. Noire and Mass Effect 3 and Bioshock Infinite and Shadow Of The Colossus and Fallout 3 and Red Dead Redemption
One thing I found interesting is part 2 of mafia: game series, Vito finally got to meet person responsible for that trail which kind of a great plot twist our 2K company lovers. 👏🏼
There were some games that I remember had the main character die.
Ethan Winters from Resident Evil 8
Edith Finch in What Remains of Edith Finch
Squall from...one of the Final Fantasy games.
Im kind of surprised that RE8 wasnt on here because it is the newest one.
But....Squall didn't die (unless you want to believe that conspiracy theory about Squall dying at the end of disc 1 and everything afterwards just being a dream)
@@LantisSRK Oh, he didnt? I never played the game, just saw some videos that said he died. So they are just conspiracy theories. Thanks for letting me know.
@@Heather_no_numbers Unless you're referring to Tidus from Final Fantasy X?
Well, Starkiller was in fact killed, but he was resurrected by the second game... there are plenty of hints proving that Galen Marek is in fact the original one in the sequel.
A couple of playable characters are killed in the CoD series, especially in the Modern Warfare trilogy.
One of the worst, and most shocking deaths for me was Call Of Duty MW2 when roach and Ghost died. That scene left a mark
How do we have to wait for the Force Unleashed 3? I don’t care if people said he is OP. But fans have been asking for Sam Witwer to come back as Darth Vader’s Secret Apprentice for over 12 years.
I’m glad Starkiller got to get into the canon by having his actor reincarnate as Darth Maul in the Clone Wars.
Man, I kinda missed playing Heavenly Sword. It's one of those games that I really did end well but I kinda wish has a sequel. Nariko's death was more poignant than the video made it seem to be because the whole time, she was a reminder of a failure that couldn't live up to the prophecy because she was a woman. The game straight up says that anyone who wields the heavenly sword will die. But Nariko took her own destiny in her own hands, got the sword to give her its full power just that one time since it had been waiting for a wielder for so long, and didn't care for her death if it meant she could save her clan and her friend. So that ending scene of her funeral really was a damn bittersweet scene because in the end, she gained the respect of her clan and her father and gave her the send off worthy of a hero.
Im a huge persona 5 fan but persona 3s ending is by far the best in the series. Incredible tearjerker on the roof with Aegis leading into probably the best song in the series
Having played through Force Unleashed and Halo: Reach, those two character deaths surprised the crap out of me the most.
Stella's goodbye/death at the end of Spiritfarer broke me, didn't help that What Will You Leave Behind played right after (also her and Daffodil's constellations in the sky felt like a punch in the gut, noo kitty)
Other honorable mentions:
- Fate/Stay Night (Heaven’s Feel route): in the normal ending of that route Shirou Emiya sacrifice his remaining life force in order to deal a final blow to the corrupted grail using his last of his projection magic.
- Asura’s Wrath (True Ending patch): Asura goes on an epic 1 on 1 battle agsinst Chakravartin in order to save his daughter, but his daughter reveals that if he put the creator out all of the Mantra and anything that flows through it goes down with him. Still Asura proceeds through anyways.
- Megaman Zero 4: To get rid what was the remaining humans near the ground zero the final boss Dr. Weil executed to drop off of what is a giant space station near Earth called Rsgnarok, fortunately Zero able to reach its Core and stop Dr. Weil by defeating the boss and blowing it up along w/ Ragnarok Core with him.
Miles technically didn't die, he just became the host of the Wall rider, at the end of whistle-blower whilst you're in the car trying to escape, he helps turn the car around, which shows that he still has control over himself.
I'm not sure if this counts or not considering you come back but, Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Explorers of Time/Darkness/Sky
You Forgot Resident Evil 8: Village.
Also Shepard survived in Mass Effect 3. The Destroy ending is Cannon so that one is wrong.
But you need a high EMS rating (3100+) in order for Shepard to survive the Destroy ending. If not, he will die.
LMAO you got me good. I was typing up a comment asking if I was crazy or if you forget the biggest surprise death from possibly the greatest video game ever. Red dead is definitely #1.
How did they "get you"? They've been having these "joke" #1 picks now soo often than it shouldn't be a surprise anymore when they go "Nah, we're just messing with you...here is the true #1 pick." Seriously...in like the past week, this is the 3rd or 4th time they ended a countdown video like this. The joke has quickly worn off and is now just more annoying than it is funny.
@@bloodwolfgaming9269 uh because I have a life and don't watch their videos religiously like you obviously do. I didn't know they were doing this constantly, I don't think they intend for that either I think the wonderful folks here at mojo consider you go outside and live regular life as a normal person does. But that's probably sadly not the case is it? Please remove the "wolf" from your Google account because you give us a bad name. Go get a job.
Outlast is such a great game
Yea I love the entire Outlast franchise
We’re supposed to get outlast 3 at some point this year. They haven’t delayed it yet. It’s called outlast trials
Bioshock Infinite has the greatest twist and storytelling I've ever experienced. I wish I could delete the game from my memory just so I could experience the ending again for the first time.
Mega Man Zero 4 and Resident Evil Village have both gotten plenty of love at this point, but there's one nobody's mentioned: Alien 3 for SNES, the only adaptation to get it right.
I'm making an honorable mention for Dust: An Elysian Tail. While it's implied Dust may have survived, he does get flooded by lava and accepts his fate. Until a sequel tells me otherwise, I consider his current ending to be a noble sacrifice.
I always liked the name Dormin because it sounds cool but is also the word Nimrod spelled backwards. I assume it was taken from King Nimrod and the Tower of Babel, but I still can't help but chuckle due to it also being used as an insult.
in the first Force Unleashed game if you choose the Dark Side ending you play as Starkiller NOT his clone. The clone is only in the second game where you play as the clone of Starkiller.
I am surprised that residents evil village Ethan didn't get a mention
Surprised that Dragon Age Origins Ultimate Sacrifice Ending didn't make the list since it can be fitting for the story.
Do a video of top 10 betrayal in game and red dead redemption would definitely rank high
We still miss you Lee.
Rdr hits hard
Wing Commander I: the player goes to a suicide mission to cover the retreat of the Tigers Claw. How can this be forgotten? Iconic.
I LOVED Resistance Fall of Man and the sequel. Didn't care much for the third. I'd love even a port of the first game to ps4 or ps5 with the servers back up. Most fun I ever had in a online fps shooter with good old capture the flag on Somerset map
That troll job for number one was immaculate 🤌🏻 I really can’t disagree with the Top 3, even if I woulda had Reach as number two. The difficulty of pulling off an ending that almost every Halo gamer knows will happen is tough as it is; but to absolutely knock it out of the park is rare. Reach, to me, was the pinnacle of Halo’s storytelling.
10:32 A hint of sadness in vader's voice
4:02 8:03 my 2 childhood games also my favorite games 💪💪 I cried at the end of resistance. You forgot to mention shadow of war
I felt really bad for Miles Upshur in Outlast - being attacked by the Walrider and then getting shot. Out of curiosity, have you ever heard of or played Amnesia Tenebris Lake? The protagonist in that game has to make a tough decision at the end that ultimately gets him killed - saving his wife or their children from a dungeon. (he can't save both)
Miles lived but had to share his body with the Walrider and then really dies after the Walrider leaves him (comics)
The thing about Commander Shepard dying, it doesn't happen in Destroy. She'll definately die in Control, Synthesis and Refusal, but she's safe in Destroy. The Audemus Happy Ending mod is fun too
If your galactic readiness is too low, you're playing it wrong. If you're not importing your Mass Effect 2 save that was imported from your Mass Effect 1 save, you're playing it wrong. The extended cut DLC for the original game was free, why not take advantage of that. "I hate the ending, but I refuse to get any FREE DLC!!!" lol 😝. Now the Mele version has all DLC, minus Pinnacle Station, built into the game already (and Pinnacle Station is avaliable on the PC version thru nexus)
Bruh! Im mad! Red Dead Redemption 2 is a masterpiece, & i played red dead revolver, & red dead redemption at release, RDR2 literally the only game that ever gave me that feeling
Same here, never played rdr though. It's hard for me to take games seriously, but not with RDR2.
Actually, it has been confirmed that Shepard survives Mass Effect 3.
You got me watchmojo. When you said Fallout I was like, Whatt?!! Anyone that's played Red Dead knows how sad John's ending was. I had roommates that finished the game earlier than me that came to my room just to watch my reaction. Not telling me anything. Had to keep my composure.Tragic.
You just gotta love their joke entries
It's something I have noticed more and more in their most recent videos. They recently have been putting a "joke" #1 pick that they start to describe before basically saying "Nah...we're just fucking with you...here's the real #1". The first time I seen them do it, I thought it was kinda funny because it was so obvious what the #1 was going to be. But seeing as this is now like the 3rd or 4th time I've seen them do it, the joke has worn off really quickly and it has just become more annoying than funny.
I cried when Arthur Morgan from Red Dead Redemption 2 died in the end while he has tuberculosis while fighting micah that made me really cried,I'll never forget it.
That damn Bohan fight in Heavenly Swoard... If only the sixaxis controls weren't so wonky.
Amazing video watch mojo of video games characters that you control in there video games die at the of there games, fantastic job.
I was absolutely expecting Resident Evil Village to be on this list
I mean, almost every video game I've ever played ends with me dying. Pac Man, Space Invaders, Super mario Brothers. You name it.
I look forward to playing resistance 2 and i will consider playing outlast.
Raziel in legacy of kain defiance was the one that got me
I loved that your companion in fallout 3 basically says ,,go die cause destiny and stuff and everybody is fine with it"
The Walking Dead season 1 is one of my favorite games of all time
Halo Reach is really heart breaking...
Aw what about Resident Evil: Village?? It’s like the only one i knew about off the top of my head
Forgot about Resident Evil Village, RIP Ethan🤧
