This is one of the all time best demos, reviews and explanations of a virtual piano. Your highly dynamic playing really helped me evaluate this software before buying. Thank you, Jake!
I’ve used pianoteq live since version 5. I’m on Standard 7 now. It’s come a long way. Very impressive, very tweakable. I really like bechstein, grotrian, & Steingraeber models. The EP emulations are nice as well.
This program keeps popping up. When I originally tried it a few years ago, I had issues with sound and feeling regarding playing. Recently recommended by yet another well respected piano person. So I am interested in checking out it again. Also, I still recommend this program due to modeling vs. sampling. Thanks for the review.
We're getting there. It's already great in the middle register, but I can still hear something slightly weird going on in bass and treble. Admittedly, for the most part it's impossible to tell apart in live situations but I'll still stick to my VSL Synchron piano collection for a while.
I use Pianoteq in Cubase AI to layer it with HIVE or U-he for strings or pads, and I easily get lost away in time. Easily. Layering these pianos with strings or pads in a DAW sounds heavily. And that's what I also do for church.
I'm all about piano modeling, my roland hp605 digital piano uses Roland's modeled piano. I tried pianoteq 6.7 and I think pianoteq sounds beautiful, but I feel like the upper register is louder than the bass notes. It's almost like they are exaggerated, it makes it difficult for me to play. Maybe I'm used to the dark tone of my Kawai grand? But I don't get that hyped up treble notes on other synths and modules. For the time being I'm going to hold off on it. I'm going to give Garriton cfx and NI a try.
Thank you for this Pianoteq review. Was hoping to see your buffer rate and how low you can go with the MBP M1 Max whist avoiding clicks/pops. Your previous Pianoteq video showed 256, can it get to 64 or even 32 like your Keyscape video?
nice review. agree, this is a beast. one point: yes, the small footprint puts less pressure on RAM but not on CPU. compared to medium to large sample libraries (such as the 1GB Hammer and Waves Modern Grand), demands on CPU are about double for Pianoteq, although you need about a third the RAM to run it. with modelling, there's lots of CPU intensive crunching going on under the hood.
Agree. I've got a i7-8750H and I removed the CPU limitations on battery (I couldn't plug it next to my DP), and I got this error and cut off when playing fast lower octaves with pedal down (Chopin Op. 25 n. 10). I guess it'll be okay if I plug my laptop and make sure Windows isn't limiting the CPU, but this was concerning.

Pianoteq is a thing of beauty… as is your playing. Blessings!

beautiful music !
And that’s a fly avatar. 🙂
Thank you for sharing this. I think I should get this because I have a MacBook Air instead of a pro. Should run well on it.
Please let me know when you have it. I’m interesting in how it runs.
Pianoteq definitely is No. 1 or at least No. 2 for VST acoustic pianos. I heard Keyscape is good too, but I haven't tried it as yet.
I use those two libraries the most.

Let me get back to you. Keyscape yes. I’m sure this too. Hi
Which version pianoteq are you playing? Thanks 👍
