Pop perfection from their massive album 'The Lexicon of Love' produced by Trevor Horn 'Video killed the video star' what a producer he did a couple of great Dollar hits 'Mirror Mirror' & 'Hand held in black & white'. Martin Fry from ABC heard those tracks and said I must have Trevor Horn produce their album. Also discover Howard Jones 'What is love?" he had some fantastic 80's tracks, I remember them well as a teen! Great review as ever Dereck!

One the early 80's hymn. Can sing the whole song by heart. The lyrics stuck with me all my life.... Alongside True by Spandau Ballet, Don't Go by Yazoo, Tainted Love by Softcell, Don't You Want Me by Human League etc it was like a musical tsunami that started in 1981.... new romantics... after a bit lamo years of 1980 and 1981, by the end of 1981 there was a sort of revolution.... Culture Club, FGTH, Euythmics, Ultravox, Heaven17, and more more more, they all emegerd from 1981 to 1984...... ABC had a few other very cool hits.... When Smokey Sings...

    Written by ABC. 🇬🇧
Debut album. Part of New Wave. Influenced by David Bowie, Roxy Music + Chic.
1 of the best singing efforts of Martin Fry. 😃 Funny parts in the video too! L🤣L
Saxophonist Dave Stapleton left the group. Drummer David Palmer quit + joined Rod Stewart 🇬🇧. Mark White stayed for 2 more albums. Then ABC broke up.
In the 2000s, MTV prompted a reunion. It was on video. David said yes. Then, Martin said yes. The others said no. A few years later, David left again. Since then, the only member left for ABC is Martin.
Suggested next video: When Smokey Sings.
Look of Love was produced by Trevor Horn + Steve Brown.
Trevor was the lead singer of The Buggles. He wrote Video Killed the Radio Star with Geoff Downes + Bruce Woodley !and sang it.
Geoff left The Buggles + joined Yes. 🇬🇧
After the break up of The Buggles, he became a producer. He produced Owner of a Lonely Heart for Yes, the debut album for Seal, 30 years ago 🎂, There You'll Be for Faith Hill 🤠 and many other songs.
    🇬🇧

Martin Fry was not supposed to be the lead singer of ABC to start with. He was a reporter who went to interview ABC, who at the time was looking for a lead singer. Fry gave it a try and got the job.
As a band, ABC had tremendous change of member along the way: people just went in and out of the team like a revolving door, and as a going concern, ABC is just Fry himself now.
