In OPENING (Best documentary Williamsburg Film Festival 2015) Thomas Deshays interviews the artist Raymond Verdaguer who has lived in New York for 30 years. He doesn’t reject the galleries but, according to him, running after the approval of the galleries makes no sense. He paints and engraves. Of course, he takes advantage of the Internet but his work is also shown in other ways. His apartment is also his studio. Among his brushes, his press and tools, Thomas discovered illustrations that he has made for magazines or newspapers such as “Le Monde” or “The New York Times”. For an artist, the print media is a way to reach a public. Raymond loves his freedom but his concept of art conflicts with American pragmatism.
