    We love Nancy Myers because her films are welcoming. They are easy but with substance, escapism without the vapidity. They are *agreeable*. The styling of sets and characters is absolutely key to that effect.
    I remember when my mom would come in as I was watching movies as a teenager -she'd always say "I don't want to watch anything ugly, aggressive, or depressing". I used to think that was shallow and uncultured, but now at 40+ I find myself in that same mindset.

    I think one of the reasons nancy meyer films are making a comback is because Hollywood is in a decline and they stopped making good films so its no surprise that ppl are looking to the past. theres a trend in hollywood where they put out these raunchy, dark, films with a sleek-looking cast that lack talent and its just not working. I miss when hollywood was more laid back and they made more films with substance and warmth. nowadays the films that get greenlit have to have some shock-value, the edgier the better. but nancy meyers told realistic stories in her films that were relatable and heartwarming. also the cinematogrophy: its such a style that is so quintesential of the 90s and 2000s. I think during the mid 2010s Hollywood decided to let go of that entire style cuz I havent seen films like those in a while. nowadays were only seeeing rawnchy comedies, dramatic, romance films, edgy dark films, and lots of comic book adaptations. even the book series-turned franchises are pressured to make the series more edgy and dark.

      I agree with everything you said! Just the other day I was lamenting the lack of nice, simple, feel good movies/rom-coms. Modern Hollywood has lost the art of storytelling, it's that simple. And to tell a story you need all those elements that you mentioned are in Nancy Meyers films, the cinematography, the costuming, as well as the soundtrack, good actors and an actual storyline. I miss good movies.
      At least we can re-watch old ones.

    • @Dreamergirl-lx5zb

      @@frangipanisandgirl I think they also lost their art of picking good talent as well. It’s like nowadays looks trump talent when back then atleast the good-looking ppl they picked also had talent. idk what it is about the 90s and the 2000s but there were so many talented actors that had the look and talent of course now they’re older but Hollywood has done a horrible job at picking talent to replace them. They think if you’re trending on social media and are the subject of countless twitter threads you must be great in the box office. Like Timothy Chalamet. He’s funny but he’s no Mathew Macaunahay or a Jude Law. Same with actresses, or maybe I’m just biased Timothee is literally year older than me but I’m just not impressed with these new actors and actresses they don’t hold a candle to Kate Winslet or Natalie Portman. Another thing I notice was actors didn’t mind joining on small or big. They’d do a big film one moment and a small flick another. They could do a big blockbuster film and small Romantic comedy back to back they didn’t just hold off for a big role so we saw different sides of them. These actors lack so much depth it’s annoying

      @eybisborjasvargas6889 Před 6 měsíci +2

      @Dreamergirl-lx5zb I think the reason you don't see as much talent anymore is because people don't want to part of Hollywood (also the music or model industries) anymore because all the toxicity and horror stories that has be coming out. Like what has happened with Britney Spears, Marilyn Monroe, Brooke Shields, Megan Fox, Aaliyah, Selena Q., Janet Jackson and her brother Michael, Whitney Houston, Judy Garland, Ana Nicole Smith, Lindsay Lohan, Amanda Bynes, Shirley Temple, Emilia Clarke, the Olson twins and Jennette McCurdy. No one wants to be harassed by the paparazzi and toxic stans (Stalker), be sexually abused, deal with the toxic beauty standards and eating disorders, or deal with such a horrible schedule that you have to rely on drugs and medication, or be the next victim of a horrible predator. We saw the power of these predators and how long it took for them to be held accountable, such as R. Kelly, Harvey Weinstein, Bill Cosby, Kevin Spacey, Dan Schneider, and a lot more. How powerful organizations ( scient*l*gy, Nickelodeon,& victims own family selling them out) keep the victims silence by threats, money, lawsuit, NDAs, blackmail or ruining their reputation or credibility.

    I still struggle to fully grasp the concept of style roots and which elements belong to each. Like here you're relating knits and practical items to earth but I'm pretty sure you have associated practicality with stone before and it's kinda hard to understand what is mushroom then if most elements are already covered in stone or earth. I feel like sometimes they overlap and it's hard to really understand the system in a way that can be applicable... I wish you made maybe in-depth videos of each root as a basic step before trying to find combinations? Just as a suggestion, it'd be great 😊

      @elliejeanroyden  Před 6 měsíci +3

      Hi! Yes both stone and earth are practical style roots, it's a trait they share - just as mountain and fire tend share a formality and impracticality! But earth is more rugged, more grounded, more natural whereas stone is more of-the-city, more sporty, more urban - I hope that clears up the difference!

      @@elliejeanroyden Thanks for replying! It does help. I'm still puzzled about mushroom though. When I see examples I think it's something I'm drawn to, but then I see that many of those elements are also present in other roots so I'm a bit confused 😅

    • @RachaelTheRed
      @RachaelTheRed Před 6 měsíci +5

      @@eykyrathe way I understand it is that the key word for mushroom is "simplicity". It's very clean lines and simple shapes, not a lot of patterns or crazy colors. In general, I think the easiest way to understand the roots is to describe the elements they're named after and those descriptions would be the style they represent, if that makes sense. For example, mountains are strong, imposing, and rigid. Therefore the mountain style root encompasses elements of strong tailoring, and more traditional styles that give the wearer that air of power. Flowers on the other hand are soft, delicate, and detailed. So, therefore, those are the types of clothes that go with that root.

    • @eykyra
      @eykyra Před 6 měsíci +1

      @@RachaelTheRed I totally get your description and that's how I understand it but that just makes the lines between mushroom and stone a bit blurry like it's easier to tell them apart from other roots but not between each other and it's puzzling because I know that I gravitate towards one of them as one of my style roots but I can't tell which one it is exactly. When I did the exercise I got keywords like "cozy", "comfortable", "effortless" and also minimal in accessories.

    the content is lovely as always but let me point out how nice you look! you always do but either the makeup or something with lighting is different because somehow it’s sooo flattering, you seem much fresher and you have a distinct glow. keep this setup if you have the ways👌🏽🫶🏽
    (maybe it’s just new for me, I’ve might been missing some videos lately)
