Badfinger had every opportunity fall apart for them. They had two smash hits that were produced by Paul McCartney and George Harrison, plus were signed onto Apple along with the Beatles. Further, "Without You" should have been a much bigger hit if it had been better produced by the label. It went on to give Harry Nilsson a major smash in the 80s. They could flip a switch and turn on an unbelievable amount of talent. Haunting a how the four of them simply walk off into the sunset at the end. That's how it really was though.
Back when the music you heard was from musicians like these that had dedicated their lives to it, for better or worse, and had often paid many years of dues before they saw any success at all. Nowadays, "stars" are created on reality talent shows in a matter of weeks, given a record deal and a few formulaic songs to sing. No grinding, no learning their craft. Heck they are really more social media stars than they are music stars. I'd be willing to bet that a large percentage of them have very little, if any, actual technical music knowledge. Is this progress?
don't forget they dont' have musical talents or skills either. this is the prime and main reason why music sucks actually come to think of it. since the '00s started reality talent shows like ameican idol ruined music for everyone. its' too easy to get famous and successful nowadays. i blame the internet and american idol everyone wants to be a famous rock star but no one wants to put in the time and effort into becoming this which is so wrong. the thing that 's really wrong is that they dont' work hard for anything and never learn important thing in becoming a famous pop star. so we're stuck with britney spears and taylor swift and other singers and musicians who arent' that good or are horrible who make really bad music that has no value. this is why the last great music was made in the '90s.
Ok boomers. It’s always been like that, your youth and nostalgia blind you. Can’t wait for people to be saying the same shit about today’s music in 50 years complaining about how their music was so much better. Most music has always been shameless cash grabs it’s not a new thing. Most pop music has always been shit. Just as many artists are dedicated as before and just as many artists were ass as they are today. The internet just highlights the worst of everything. Actually look for good music and you’ll find it
@@Digital_PeterGriffin says someone who is 20 something years old. i've heard this argument on this website actually, and its' a failed argument and approach to this topic. the problem with your argument is today's music, so that's the last 21 years since 2000 is shit mostly and music will never be at the quality level of '70s or '80s or '90s music. why can't the kids of nowadays just admit that their music sucks and our music: '70s '80s '90s is more than twice as great? it's not like music can't suck for 20 years , it has. and i really doubt it will ever get to being as great as it was in the '90s. and this is not just an older person stuck in their music and unwilling to listen to nowadays music i've listened to nowadays music and 90% of it sucks. and is worthless and has no quality or value. i'm not being subjective it's provable that most of today's music sucks. this is not a taste or preference or bias thing. this is a music knowledge and instinct thing. when someone has spent their whole life carefully not casually listening to music and they are about 40 years old, they know what is good music and what is bad music.

I wasn't born but thanks to you tube I can listen to bad finger music Pete ham used to drink in my dads local when Pete lived in Surrey in the early 1970s RIP PETE HAM AND TOMMY EVANS x
What a phenomenal band. Pete Ham and Tom Evans were a dynamic songwriting duo comparable to Lennon and Macca. Hugely underrated. RIP. May you burn in hell Stan Polley
+wow I so agree, so underrated
+helterskelter1178 Agree!!! Polley fuck you in hell...
+helterskelter1178 Agree 110%
+helterskelter1178 Yes, hugely underrated. Ripped off as were many artistes in that era (Bay City ROllers hugely ripped off as well) Its always the management that screw these lads. As for burning in hell....well Karma will get these people. Karma always does. The shysters will get what they deserve. But poor Pete and Tom....just a tragedy, God bless them.
they never got a chance
I was born in 91 and love this kind of music. Thanks to my parents for growing up with this music. I tell people I don’t belong in this generation.
Knock down the old gray wall .... love this tune to heaven and back
rockin' days of the 70s badfinger forever
I remember this song so well when it was a hit on the radio back in 1970 when I was nine years old; my sister had the 45 of this one and we played it all the time.
I just woke up this morning and out of the blue !! started singing this song. Honestly Am so happy 🤩That I found it. Those good old days👍🏾with the best music 🎶 🎵 🎼 🤗🥰.
These fellas could have been anything. Tragic. The song of the 70`s. Suspect it would still sell well today.
HAPPY HEAVENLY BIRTHDAY TOM EVANS, 5TH JUNE, YOU WERE SENSATIONAL. BELATED TO PETE HAM....SUCH BRILLIANT SONGWRITERS TOGETHER.
Loved this song from the first time I heard it. Saw the band in the late 60's when they were still called The Iveys. Pete and Tom...what a team of writers.
One of the best Popsongs of the sixties....I'm melting....my youth comes back.....
'No Matter What' wasn't released until 1970.
Seventies
I am possibly the biggest Beatles fan, I named my daughter Abbey, so when I watched Horrible Bosses 2 they played the whole song at the end and I wondered how I knew all of the words and sang my heart out! This info and the film clip explains a lot! Could have been filmed on George's estate. Love it!!!
Awsome this song is cool
Abbey Feeney i am Liza Feeney's daughter. Abbey!
I have been a Beatle fan since I was 7 years of age. I am 64 now, and a day does not go by without me listening to The Beatles. If you are their biggest fan, I am not that far behind you. We got good taste, that's for sure
This song was recently featured in the film Horrible Bosses 2 as a character's doorbell and is an awesome song.
Tggggtttggy
1970...great single.
Power pop at its best, and check out those harmonies throughout!!
interesting i just thought of the posies right before i read power post in your post. i guess in this kind of bad there is usually 2 creative force members.
Bad finger no matter what you are what a great group u rock 70s
Judy Laro essa banda tocou aqui no Brasil eu adorava, era demais! Agora tô ouvindo sempre!
Who’s listening at 2019
Isabel Rosas People that think that is a great song and it still is a great song are you listening to it?
Kevin Hoskins yes I am
The tragic what happened to bad finger… They didn’t make a penny off of that album scammed one committed suicide because he bought a brand new mansion terrible!
Kevin Hoskins that’s horrible😭
Isabel Rosas 🙋🏻♀️
They sound so much like the Beatles! Love the song and the lyrics! Who's listening?
Me, love this song, flood of memories.
This song came out before I was born being that I was born in 77 but I always thought this was a badass jam . I love the guitar riffs
I didn't know about the stuff that was happening behind the scenes until recently. What a real tragedy. These guys could've been HUGE! I never listened to them a lot in my younger days. A little before my time, but the more I hear, the more I love.
This is a classic song.....Stands the test of time....
great pop song, with baby blue, clean, direct, simple, the way pop should sound.
Rest In Peace Pete ham gone but not forgotten your music lives on forever you will always be in our hearts forever we love you
The whole album this is from is brilliant. Back to this song, just listen to the guitar playing throughout. It's brilliant. And then the raucous guitar playing is sweetened up by the harmonies. Brilliant.
Descobri essa banda hj... Parece tão atual, música boa nunca envelhece.
I love this song, wish they were still around, thank you for leaving us your music, RIP Legends ❤️
ABSOLUTELY AMAZING TIMELESS BEAUTIFUL MIND BLOWING MUSIC 🎵 🎶🎵 FROM THE GREEK GOD'S... NEVER WILL HEAR ANYTHING REMOTELY APPROACHING THIS AMAZING BEAUTIFUL EXCELLENCE EVER AGAIN
I still love and remember this song NO MATTER WHAT while attending at International English Institute -Lack Land Air Force Base in San Antonio.
No matter what you are
I will always be with you
Doesn't matter what you do girl, oh girl with you
No matter what you do
I will always be around
Won't you tell me what you found girl, oh girl won't you
Knock down the old brick wall, and be a part of it all
Nothing to say, nothing to see, nothing to do
If you would give me all, as I would give it to you
Nothing would be, nothing would be, nothing would be
No matter where you go
There will always be a place
Can't you see in my face girl, oh girl don't you
Knock down the old brick wall, and be a part of it all
Nothing to say, nothing to see, nothing to do
If you would give me all, as I would give it to you
Nothing would be, nothing would be, nothing would be
No matter what you are
I will always be with you
Doesn't matter what you do girl, oh girl want you
Oh girl, you girl, want you
Oh girl, you girl, want you
It's been so many years and I can't get over their songs. Pete Ham was it
This song brings back good memories for me.
They played this song on the Holdovers. Perfect.
Had the single when first issued. Bought the album too! Have loads of Badfinger, REAL pop music!! Back catalogue is awesome!!
absolute class ... worked with them many times as the Iveys .... good lads ... nightmare outcome ... one of my alltime fave Beatlesque mid 16 breaks .. Tom's high harmony wonderful ... 'specially on the second one .... Macca would be impressed .... we never got a chance to see how they would develop .... so sad ....
I was 9 years old when that song came on and it didn't stop playing on the radio till 1983 they sold a million copies of that song
Tragic to read 2 members hung them selves . Have the best of cd this ,baby blue & day after day . Brilliant . Great band . Pete had a great voice . Sydney Australia 🦘🦘🦘🦘🦘 29/7/2024 ❤😊 RIP Pete
The movie Now & Then brought me here. Such a good movie. 😊
Luv it. I was 10 when it came out. I loved it instantly.
Respect the rock!
I probably played this far too loudly in my parent's house, way back! It makes me happy that I still have the seven-single, with the big apple in the centre, in its original dust cover. Hoarder!
now THIS is pure gold
I saw a documentary about Bad Finger not so long ago. It was very hard to watch. Quite heart breaking actually. Things should have turned out so differently.
What happened to them?
@@snyyns5630 Their manager stole all their money, the band went into bankrupt, broke up and two of the original members committed suicide.
2 suicides. They really got screwed.
@@JoseRamirez-rq2gj Jose, his name was Stan Polley and he somehow got the entire band to sign documents without an attorney present to review them. They essentially became employees of his LLC- the fatal mistake was giving Polley power of attorney. That was the kiss of death. I read some time ago Joey Molland, the groups only surviving member, stating that during their hey day the most each band member was paid was about $25,000 a year. Meanwhile, they are cranking out top ten hits, selling millions of records and performing sold out shows all over the U.S..
@@rayjr62 Joey Molland is an asshole, he was one of the ones who put Tom Evans under a lot pf pressure which led to his suicide.
There are several versions of this song on YT. This is the absolute best sound quality. Thank you for caring. This is the way I remember it sounding on my car radio back in the day.
One of the most underrated ,unappreciated but most brilliant bands there has ever been ..but also one of the most tragic …R.I.P. Pete Ham and Tom Evans
If only we could hear melodies this good today. The bridge parts in this are pure magic.
AMO simplesmente, JAMAIS esquecerei !!!!!!! BANDA INSUBSTITUÍVEL !!!! Fortaleza CE Brazil
Salve BR!
Bandaça! Impecáveis.
🤘🤘
They could flip a switch and turn on an unbelievable amount of talent. Haunting a how the four of them simply walk off into the sunset at the end. That's how it really was though.
Thank you so much for posting 📫. Badfinger is one of my favorite bands.
U hear songs as a child or teenager and years later you really appreciate them.. This is one of them
Interesting footage to go with what has always been a lovely song.
We bought the farm it was filmed at in early 90's so not only love the track but it has a special resonance with us.
@@nqbopwalesstaples9416 That’s so cool!!!
Happy Birthday Peter Ham. Rip
Thanks so much for posting this... great memories!
♫♫" ... No matter what you do, I will always be around ... " ♫♫
They were a fantastic band. In my opinion so underrated. It brings back such happy memories of my teenage years.
@@lukejbarnett1 calls my argument a fallacy but doesn’t explain why. Ok
@@Digital_PeterGriffin i just gave you why.
Cant get enough of this group 1969. Bad finga. Best rock group ever. Sponsored by the beatles..
I finally found them gold nuggets after losing track of Badfingers for decades. What a pleasant surprise to stumbled upon them here.
Was a great band and song! It was very easy to learn the slide guitar part because it was so simple :) One of my fav's :)
brilliant god I loved the 70s and these fabulouse bands, thanks for sharing.
Their music STILL takes me back...people confuse them with the beatles... Should have been in R&R H o F decades ago !...simply Brilliant !...
like the bay city rollers, bad finger were conned by their record company and managers, this was a band that should have made it big but never got that chance
The ROllers were equally as screwed over as Badfinger were.
Total tragedy the deaths of Pete and Tom. No one deserves such awful treatment wildenfree1.
Let me say this as devils advocate was it worth taking your life over think there was more than that
How many other bands were ripped off by greedy crap criminal management?
Badfinger were a talented rock band. BCR were crap.
Badfinger had such a 'beatle's sound' to me. My fave is Baby Blue. Never knew they were the originals of Without You (always thought Nilsson was). They had a great sound. So sad about their personal tragedy. RIP Pete Ham & Tom Evans. Who knows what could have been.
Badfinger was mentored by the Beatles. Badfinger was on apple Records. Paul McCartney did write “Come & Get It” for them.
Omg !!!! Just Awesome!!
Great song..very underrated band
Pete Ham,, "might" have been the only singer/songwriter, ever, that if in the Beatles would have shared close to equal songwriting and singing contributions to the McCartney-Lennon duo. Not just highly talented, but style wise would have blended in. George was great....but was also in awe of Ham. Can you imagine that threesome writing songs together!
Man this is so good. Thanks.
