  • It was a miserable rainy and windy day in the mountains of Pennsylvania. The bucks were on their feet and I was able to finally release an arrow at one.

    Great video. That’s a mean hike though. I hunt public land in Bradford county and have a 1.75 mile hike in to my honey hole. The last quarter mile is a little climb too and it gets me some days. It’s worth it though. Good luck the rest of the season.

    I like your hunts and I also like the recurve. The one think I do not like is when people try to talk in a stand so low that people that are hard of hearing ( ME for one ) have a very hard time knowing what is said. Please try to do a voice over instead. Thank you!

  • @joeneely7945
    @joeneely7945 Před 3 lety

    Tip: I bought a cheap extending trimmer for $13 at Harbor Freight. It lets me reach out about 10' from my stand to clear branches from shooting lanes, or you can reach up maybe 15' from the ground to clear branches farther from your stand. That said, you shouldn't cut living trees on public land but you can use it to knock down dead stuff in your way. If you have the luxury of prepping your stand ahead of time, it's the way to go.

    Real hunting not over fields with thousands of $ of food plots. I sit in the mountains also & the deer are cyclical. You gotta take it when the opportunity presents itself. Great hunts & your father was a great teacher!

    I’ve been enjoying your videos and am looking into and shopping for a recursive that will work in a saddle. What kind of bow are you shooting ?

    • @joeneely7945
      @joeneely7945 Před 3 lety

      For any type of hunting, a shorter bow is more maneuverable and less likely to hit your stand or branches, but you sacrifice a little smoothness. It's hard to beat a Bear recurve, but any bow works if you tune your arrows and practice. Sometimes you can find an old one that is not cosmetically perfect for a good price, and that's a good starter bow. Don't go higher in draw weight than you are comfortable shooting. My daughter killed a doe with a 35# recurve and she doesn't draw the full 28". For a man, 40-45 lbs drops them nicely.

    Great smart set up! You have to quit setting up by those arrow grabbing trees! They are not in any of the tree identification books, not too many people know about them!! You have to get like further than 3+ miles back in the woods they don’t grow as much back in deep. You can’t see em til you climb the tree and shoot actually! Hard to spot.. I crazy admire your dedication!!! You have youth on ur side bro!!

    those shots are either perfect or not so good when trying to sneak thru the limbs and briars. More times than not, not so good for me but you just don't know until you commit. has paid off enough times to keep doing it.

      ken it’s the lightest climber I’ve ever seen. 15 pounds it’s not bad. When I throw a couple jackets, backpack, and camera gear on it. It’s 25-30 pounds. Just a tad heavy for these long hikes in. I’m switching to a saddle next year

      It is a custom bow from a guy in North Central in PA. Unfortunately he does not make that bow anymore. I'm sure any recurve will do, I have many friends that have different bows and have no trouble with the saddle.
