I like to tell you that you are very honest and know what you’re doing thanks keep up the good work
Right on time Jeff! I was about to fix chipping grout in my bathroom! Great tips as always!
how did it turn out?
This was the 3rd video I watched on epoxy grout, should have been the first, so many tips and tricks
I really enjoy your videos and how you explain what you are doing.
Thank you!!!! Going to use this on an tile job in a high traffic, high moisture area in my cabin!
Tried the soap trick love it I'll be using epoxy grout more often now
Omg i love it! Repair your grout while its chippin out! From a Canadian!! Lol i love it
Planning on using some epoxy grout next week for the first time. Thanks for the tips
how did it work out for you?
You’re truly enjoyable to watch. Very personable, easy to understand and concise. Subscribed!
You've saved me so much money. Thanks!
Your awesome!! Thank you for saving me time and money!!!
A lot of info and all of it helpful.
You make it look so easy man, thanks...
Hi Edward, epoxy grout is actually this easy. It is only difficult if you don't use the soap. Cheers!
I wish he would reply to the questions. There are some great ones that have gone unanswered. Primarily about how the soap might effect the integrity of the areas you DO want it to stay.
You’re using too much soap
@@chriscolameco6850 lol what?
yhe effect is probably very little.
First you rub SOAP into the grout area and then you apply the grout. Why not pour used motor oil into the grout. This makes no sense.
Next week I want to do 1800 sf of epoxy grout,I will try your technique. Thanks for now.
Thanks Jeff. another great video. Would you have any tips for grouting imitation tumbled edge tiles? Mine butt up to one another, but the grout keeps cracking (on a screed floor) and crumbling.
Thank you for this
Great job😎
Used your video to relieve some of my stress for doing my frist grout, which was an epoxy grout. I was really nervous cause the guys at the shop said it was really hard. There was a plan A and a plan B and so much prep and hard work, even had a partner to hand me things like a physician. Then I began. Added the grout and then BAM. All plans out the window and worked faster than I ever have. This stuff doesn't want to spread and really doesn't come of with the sponge very easily. In the end though, success! With how easy you made this look, I know you are a pro!
omg the comment I was looking for! I'm going to try it out this weekend! how much epoxy grout did you need and to cover what area (if you remember?)
Great video 👍
This is the first of your videos I've seen and had to check how many subs you have. Yep, just as I thought.
Great work Jeff. do we use same soap technique even on freshly laid tiles where there is no grout at all? Thanks.
Great video guys.
Thanks Adam! Cheers!
Thank you so much! Groutzilla is closed due to our pandemic. So, I'm going to give it a go! I love your secret, it works for other things too!
Did it work for you? Dishsoap and all?
how did it work out for you?
Hi Jeff like your videos I have a stand up shower with tile all around on the edges of the floor shower it has a hard grout or caulk I want to regrout the edges only do I caulk it or grout it floor base seams
Jeff, that soap trick is magic! Tell me, I’ve seen conflicting information about how long to wait before setting in my sink after using Kerapoxy on my new tile counter. Thoughts?
Hi Jeff, I have a fine sandstone shower floor (porous initially but well sealed now) I want to use epoxy /kerapoxy for endurance and water proofing but the surface is naturally split / riven. How do I ensure I can get the grout off the tiles afterwards? It was hard enough getting keracolour off riven slate tiles. It looks easy on a polished surface but textured.. something a whole lot more daunting!
You are a life saver I having this problem in a newly renovated kitchen and the tiler just went I dunno😮
Hi, I would love to use this on a pebble stone shower floor as well as the walls. How would I treat the grout around the pebble stone first?
Do I still remove the grout?
Great video!
Thanks Red Yumi, Cheers!
Love the channel< always good information. Idea for a new video, installing an epoxy floor. Im about to start a 3000Sqft installion in a property I own and was hoping to pick up tips from a true tradesman, I will now sadly have to wade through the CZcams hacks instead.
Thanks for the info
Cheers!
Great video brother I do that with the Diamond Blade and with a multi tool machine I do that for the restaurant floor and then I put the grout 🎼🎶🎺🇵🇷🌅👍
nice to have great tools. Cheers Ramon!
I’m going to use this on a pebble stone tile entry way with slate for the rest of the floor. I have wooden floors but I’ll be giving the wood a drink before I put my ditra down. Not too much deflection- like your old house I have 2x4 planks running diagonal across the joists. My floor is stiffer than rot gut whisky. Any tips other tips on sealers or anything else I can do to make this job go well?
I was laughing out loud when you said because the floor was not laid following with my video discussion!
LOL< I guess I got you right at the proper moment. Cheers!
AMAZING ONE🍻
Thank You!
Hey Jeff hopefully you see this question since the video is 2 years old. I have about 150 sq ft of tiled floor outside (previous owners) in need of regrouting. The winter got under and gave me this project. When do you advise I take this on and can I do it as a diyer with no experience working with epoxy? Thanks for all your awesome videos btw!!
Another great video. Thanks Jeff.
Thanks Larry, Cheers!
That is great advice yet again. Thank you very much.
Cheers Salty Sea!
Hi Jeff, could you make a video about ho to grout with Epoxy grout tiles deep edges like subway tiles and even deeper? Thanks
Really enjoy your video. Want to ask if using the same epoxy grout in your video (Mapei Kerapoxy), how deep do I have to remove the old grout before putting the Kerapoxy on top? I want to do this on a shower floor. I’m concerned if I don’t remove enough of the old grout, the kerapoxy may crack or crumble out when multiple adults stand on the floor. Thanks!
You had way to much fun with your intro rhyme. Thanks so much for your videos I always enjoy.
Cheers to that!
Always appreciate the tips & tricks you share with us. Have used this trick before, & do like using Mapei products👍🏻
Cheers Aepek, One of y favourite products to work with!
Hi Jeff, I have enjoyed all of your videos and straight forward approach to doing the home improvement work yourself. Your channel helped me get through 2020 as Ibecame interested in comparing your experiences and tweaks compared to my experiences I've gained being a GC in CA. I'm the last Contractor in a 75 year family business with zero complaints on our work my family has done in the commercial and residential business. One question on this epoxy tweak of yours that I never knew about till now is, does it work with pebble floors in showers with their narrow to super wide grouted areas? 2nd question, do you advise using your hand as per the video to lightly smear the liquid soap or would using a sponge, towel or other device be better to use to evenly lightly spread the liquid soap? My concern is lessening the chance of the liquid soap weeping into the grout lines, but maybe this concern is misplaced after reading your replies to previous posts. Please let me know. Thank you again, or as they say in Canada,"cheers."
Thank you for the video. Does it turn black like the grout I have now?
Per usual: great tips and instructions.
Question: how do you patch a hole in a ceiling that was popcorn-ized? I’d like to remove light from a bathroom.
Cut a plug the same size, plug it from the attic, tape mud it down from the attic side, apply 90’s ‘ texture ‘, shake head at all the popcorned surfaces in my house?
Hey Jeff, I appreciate your videos! I know this isn’t the best place to ask, but have you used quick slope system on making a custom mud pan for a shower? If so what’s your opinion. Thank you
Jeff does that soap trick work on colored epoxy grout? Thanks in advance
Thank you for this video.
It is potentially saving me about 800-1.5k because locally the standard is very sub-standard in construction with their bathroom grouting! 😭
apparently detergent chemicals could play wrong part with applaying grout especialy between tiles .thanks Jeff idea is cool if it works properly without changing grout properties in further use
Great video! I'm about to put tiles onto the walls of my bathroom. Is it ok to use epoxy grout just like normal grout and apply it the same way you did in the video?
I am wondering if it is a tile problem too instead of installation problem. I have exact the same tiles and same issues with regular grout
We have just got epoxy here in Australia and can't wait to use it after seeing your video. Thanks for sharing.
Cheers paul!
You're telling me that, just because you're in Australia, you're 30 years behind the times and just got epoxy grout. Maybe you just heard about it.
Jeff
I've tried epoxy grout before, that was about nine years ago and it was a nightmare. The grout started drying way too fast and it was hard to clean.
The bucket you mixed there, about how much working time do you get before it becomes to sticky to spread? Thank you in advance.
Thanks for that, I am guessing the wall process to take out the old grout and adding new grout is the same ( with your method for applying at 45 degrees) Thanks again for all the content!
You got it Simon. Cheers!
You the man :)
Cheers to you!
Hello, can I use the dish liquid method for the shower floor?
Great video! I feel confident my grout job in the shower will be....at least C+ work. Wish me luck.
You got this! I am already giving you a b+ just because you will care.
I ran into some 9x9 old tiles surprisingly in great shape. No cracks and no wear. Can I seal this area with epoxy just incase these tiles are VAT?
This is way better than sticking a piece of gum. Very informative
LOL, without a doubt. Cheers!
So the hardened epoxy stops tiles flexing where glue has come loose underneath? Have similar movement around vanity and an external door. I've fixed the leaking in both spots but tiles a bit loose.
Can you use the dish soap on matte porcelain tile kitchen backsplash?
Info from technical white paper on epoxy grout.
When cleaning the grouted floor, be sure to use plenty of cold water (to prevent quick set up) mixed with a few drops of Dawn dish soap. It is critical to remove all haze immediately. Dawn works well because it contains surfactants that have an affinity to the epoxy resident contained in both the epoxy and the water used to clean up the haze. This allows the haze to bond with the water and wash away easily with a cleanup sponge and microfiber towel. It is extremely difficult to remove haze otherwise. The grout cures unlike cement grout, which can be adversely affected by using too much water. You cannot use too much of this soapy solution cleaning epoxy grout.
I never seen or heard of anyone using dish detergent Thanks for that tip
You’re welcome 😊
I just installed porcelain tiles in a shower area and used Ardex EG8 Plus epoxy grout and it was a nightmare. It started to cure within about ten minutes and getting the whole job done was a nightmare. Consequently I missed about 5 small spots and have epoxy on the tile faces that wasn't cleaned off properly. I also had a nightmare that the lights went out during grouting so was working in very low light. Ordered some Lithofin Resin Ex after speaking with manufacturers so will see what that does
hey jeff, i just joined and have a question about this video. is this method of grout removal ( the V shape into grout ) sufficient for regrouting a tile shower floor or should old grout be removed completely before new epoxy grout?
6:52 I hope this helps.
Great tip with wetting the floor first never done that before and I had a very hard time removing it one time. One thing I’d say is always always wear gloves with epoxy grout. I used bare hands and I had epoxy burn for 1 week.
that happens for folks who don't grout a lot for a living. Cheers!
Not necessary wetting the floor... If you use a power saw to cut cement board (Durock or Hardie Backer) the dust will clog pores. Hardie backer has dust on it from the factory. A wet mixed thinset can help resolve this problem, (wet mortar causes problems on walls.) Not much experience with epoxy as a mortar, but i know the surface needs to be dry.
Hi Jeff, Would like to get your recommendation about a leaky balcony. Balcony is above a room. After I had the old tiles removed and added new Prismo grout. There is a leak in the ceiling. 100% want to avoid removing the tiles in order to replace the membrance under the tiles. Is there any product such as two part clear epoxy that I can have applied to the tiles, new grout... The re-grouting is done with good workmanship and covers all the ages. I know applying sealer is not the solution. May be adding the grout in the video - if we could get it in clear oe brown. Please let me know your recommendation. Thank you.
I used this same method in my kitchen, but instead of epoxy I just used plain water. And instead of porcelain tiles, I used porcelain plates, some knives and forks. Works well.
personally I would have used spoons instead or forks. but to each their own.
Can I do this over an existing mosaic shower floor? The existing grout lines can't be dug out though.
Hey Gary - I relabeled all my Mom’s spice containers, I’m not in trouble yet but the thyme is cumin #cheers
More people are calling you Gary now lol!
It is starting to stick, # gary!
Hi. What type of grout is best for thin grout lines? The company that installed my 24 x 24 porcelain floor tiles used unsanded grout...and it scratches out to a powder with just your fingernail =(
Do you use concentrated right-from-the-bottle dishwashing liquid or you add water to it?
Would you use epoxy grout on wall tile in a tub/shower area?
What is you opinion of the goboard shower pan system?
What type of grout should be used on the kitchen backsplash?
Just out of curiosity, I wonder if I'm capable of tolerating the haze, if I don't bother wiping down the grout over the mosaic tile, will it always be sticky or just appear hazy ?
Jeff - what about exterior/interior non slip tiles with epoxy ? Better to use a "gun" system where the bond and the grout are combined at application?
We are installing a ceramic tile backsplash in kitchen (brick face-sized) using Epoxy Elite EPO which it says works both as adhesive and grout, ordered on-line from Home Depot. Can the mixed product be preserved? The 11 lb can says 60 minutes, but seems a bit vague. It says "mixture life 60 minutes". Does that mean all must be used up in 60 minutes, or just that it will harden to surface on 60 minutes and the rest can be preserved in an airtight container?
Can you use the dish soap trick when regrouting walls?
Hello Jeff. I just watched your new epoxy grout tip video. Question if you put the dish soap on the floor then pick up the excess would the soap affect the epoxy grout that is placed back into the bucket?
Hi Marc, if you are concerned then use less at once and discard it upon removing from the floor. I have been using this system for years and it works with no side effects. Cheers!
I am putting in 12x24 inch ceramic tile in a shower. It is large about 75sqft. Will the soap (I assume Dawn) work on a wall? I want to use grout that does not get black mold over time and is less work to keep clean. No one ever seems to wipe down the walls after a shower?? Your thoughts PLEASE.
Thanks Jeff!
Cheers Donna!
Hi. New here and new to tiling. I have a project I'm working on - building a water fountain for my apartment patio. I bought a single sheet of 1/4 hardie backer and I want to tile it with some very inexpensive glass tile I picked up at a surplus building supply. The tiles are mosaic 5/8" on sheets 12" x 12". So the grout lines are very small. As this is a water feature, the water should cascade down the front of my tiled wall, the bottom two or so feet of which will be submerged in a galvanized tub. I'm pretty sure epoxy grout is my best bet, but I'm super nervous about f'ing this up. I see many say it's hard to work with. As my tiles are so small and this is a virgin application, would the soap trick still work? Does it affect how the epoxy will stick in the grout lines? My tile has a bit of a "carnival glass" look to it. I don't want to mess that up either. My dad keeps telling me to use sanded grout and call it a day. Your advice?
Does the expoxy grout help solve the movement in that tile?
Great video. I always enjoy your videos. You do solid work. Can you put the link to your other video that shows the proper way to lay tile? Maybe a suggested video.
Hi Justin, we are going to do a complete tutorial for tile soon. I will be happy to answer questions in the mean time if you have any? Cheers!
@@HomeRenoVisionDIY I have layed tile before. I know that one of your videos would help me improve on my skills prior replacing my kitchen floor.
@@jrider85 simply use the search tool and type tile. Cheers!
Thank you for this video. My kitchen tile was not laid properly no wetting back floors and tile has grout cracking everywhere. I decided we would hire someone else this time but I sent someone else for supplies ( he went to original tiler ) I had copy of color etc. all cracked tiles ( 3 boxes ) were replaced and grouted again but the mess w dust everywhere? This Méthod of etching the tile should make the NEW epoxy 2nd repair far less dust but I’m
Concerned now w the chemical smell. I have a genetic lung disease and last time getting all the dust up even though room was cleared , hvac off , vents taped , doorways sealed , can you offer any other suggestions?
I can’t open windows bc house has anderson windows w no screens! Two half of a large kitchen is being redone the tile store said this would match the other half where there is no issue. I just wonder should we do the entire kitchen ? Bc it’s a completely diff product than original tile installed w sand grout. The other man retired but he kindly offered to give a bid after 9 years and then complete disaster. 3/4 plyboard under and you could feel it moving. That had been remedied.. I’m too old and disabled to have to do this over again , and thankfully the contractor friend helping fix disaster isn’t ripping me off like the first time. Thank you. This video I definitely needed every tip to avoid the dust from the three boxes of tile that had to be replaced due to the entire process was wrong from step one!
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍💥💥💥Boomtastic!!!
Do you have to get rid of old epoxy grout ? or apply on the top of the old one . My epoxy grout is 18 years old and in great condition except where the tile meets the edge of the bathtub.
Is there an approximate sqft that this covers? The one 5kg I bought says "maximum area covered: 0" which is zero help. Trying to do a 60x42 shower (walls and floor) and im worried the two 5kg i bought will not be enough, even though I used 12x24 tiles for the wall.
Hey Jeff, i used the Mapei Cq epoxy for a shower , and while I was working with it I had an emergency didn't wipe off the grout and have some grout and haze on the tiles. Is there anything I can use to remove the epoxy and haze without doing damage? Thank you for the answer in advance. Love the channel and is hands down the best subscription I have.
Mapei makes an epoxy grout haze remover. I know Floor and Decor carries it.
Everything seem nice but i have how much time before that epoxy in the bucket dry?
What about the soap in the area where you are applying the epoxie grout -doesn’t this reduce the ability of the grout integrity?
Same question
My ceramic guy told me to never use any soap or anything else when mixing cement or epoxy
I use soap and water mixed on the soapy side and then coat surfaces I want to keep protected when pouring concrete . I just soap surfaces with a brush and let dry and then the splatter of concrete I let dry and then when its dry it brushes right off because of the barrier it creates.
If you had used epoxy grout on the shower walls would it have prevented the moisture penetration?
Also have you worked with acrylic grouts like fusion pro / flex color cq? Thank you very much
I have worked exclusively with mapei for the last 10 years. Cheers!
Hi Jeff. The inexperienced me has made a mess out of the grout lines. Even after I used detergent, there still seems to be epoxy residue on the tiles. How do I get rid of the epoxy residue on the tiles after it has cured?
Thank you so much for this video and for sharing your tricks! We have a porous stone (unsealed river rock) meshed tile already thinset onto the floor. Could we apply epoxy grout to something like that without damaging the rocks?
You might be better asking the stone manufacturer or contacting the manufacturer of the grout you choose
@@zarasbubble1748 Thank you! We ended up sealing just the tops of the stone with a tile sealant and epoxy grouted over them when the sealant dried, came out great, no stains :)
Do I use an epoxy grout or sanded grout to regroup a river rock shower floor?
Enjoyed your video...I just bought a house, previous owner hired out full bath reno...ive noticed a few subway tiles in shower totally missing grout...obviously water plus no grout = bad...should i mix up some epoxy grout and push in? I dont want to rip & replace...thanks!!
That will work but it will look different if the wall is not epoxy right now. best to match it if they used unsanded or regrout the whole shower. !
Good morning
My bathroom was renovated by a professional from Canada and he used schlutter board under the tile and epoxy grout. there are places on the floor where it looks like the grout has
came loose from the tile along the edge leaving a hairline between the tile and the grout.
can I heat up the grout to get it to reseal?
