Used your video to relieve some of my stress for doing my frist grout, which was an epoxy grout. I was really nervous cause the guys at the shop said it was really hard. There was a plan A and a plan B and so much prep and hard work, even had a partner to hand me things like a physician. Then I began. Added the grout and then BAM. All plans out the window and worked faster than I ever have. This stuff doesn't want to spread and really doesn't come of with the sponge very easily. In the end though, success! With how easy you made this look, I know you are a pro!

Hi Jeff, I have a fine sandstone shower floor (porous initially but well sealed now) I want to use epoxy /kerapoxy for endurance and water proofing but the surface is naturally split / riven. How do I ensure I can get the grout off the tiles afterwards? It was hard enough getting keracolour off riven slate tiles. It looks easy on a polished surface but textured.. something a whole lot more daunting!

Hi Jeff, I have enjoyed all of your videos and straight forward approach to doing the home improvement work yourself. Your channel helped me get through 2020 as Ibecame interested in comparing your experiences and tweaks compared to my experiences I've gained being a GC in CA. I'm the last Contractor in a 75 year family business with zero complaints on our work my family has done in the commercial and residential business. One question on this epoxy tweak of yours that I never knew about till now is, does it work with pebble floors in showers with their narrow to super wide grouted areas? 2nd question, do you advise using your hand as per the video to lightly smear the liquid soap or would using a sponge, towel or other device be better to use to evenly lightly spread the liquid soap? My concern is lessening the chance of the liquid soap weeping into the grout lines, but maybe this concern is misplaced after reading your replies to previous posts. Please let me know. Thank you again, or as they say in Canada,"cheers."

  • @trouse5046
    @trouse5046 Před 10 dny

Info from technical white paper on epoxy grout.
When cleaning the grouted floor, be sure to use plenty of cold water (to prevent quick set up) mixed with a few drops of Dawn dish soap. It is critical to remove all haze immediately. Dawn works well because it contains surfactants that have an affinity to the epoxy resident contained in both the epoxy and the water used to clean up the haze. This allows the haze to bond with the water and wash away easily with a cleanup sponge and microfiber towel. It is extremely difficult to remove haze otherwise. The grout cures unlike cement grout, which can be adversely affected by using too much water. You cannot use too much of this soapy solution cleaning epoxy grout.

It started to cure within about ten minutes and getting the whole job done was a nightmare. Consequently I missed about 5 small spots and have epoxy on the tile faces that wasn't cleaned off properly. I also had a nightmare that the lights went out during grouting so was working in very low light. Ordered some Lithofin Resin Ex after speaking with manufacturers so will see what that does

Not necessary wetting the floor... If you use a power saw to cut cement board (Durock or Hardie Backer) the dust will clog pores. Hardie backer has dust on it from the factory. A wet mixed thinset can help resolve this problem, (wet mortar causes problems on walls.) Not much experience with epoxy as a mortar, but i know the surface needs to be dry.

There is a leak in the ceiling. 100% want to avoid removing the tiles in order to replace the membrance under the tiles. Is there any product such as two part clear epoxy that I can have applied to the tiles, new grout... The re-grouting is done with good workmanship and covers all the ages. We are installing a ceramic tile backsplash in kitchen (brick face-sized) using Epoxy Elite EPO which it says works both as adhesive and grout, ordered on-line from Home Depot. Can the mixed product be preserved? The 11 lb can says 60 minutes, but seems a bit vague. It says "mixture life 60 minutes". Does that mean all must be used up in 60 minutes, or just that it will harden to surface on 60 minutes and the rest can be preserved in an airtight container?

I am putting in 12x24 inch ceramic tile in a shower. It is large about 75sqft. Will the soap (I assume Dawn) work on a wall? I want to use grout that does not get black mold over time and is less work to keep clean. No one ever seems to wipe down the walls after a shower?? Your thoughts PLEASE.

Hi. New here and new to tiling. I have a project I'm working on - building a water fountain for my apartment patio. I bought a single sheet of 1/4 hardie backer and I want to tile it with some very inexpensive glass tile I picked up at a surplus building supply. The tiles are mosaic 5/8" on sheets 12" x 12". So the grout lines are very small. As this is a water feature, the water should cascade down the front of my tiled wall, the bottom two or so feet of which will be submerged in a galvanized tub. I'm pretty sure epoxy grout is my best bet, but I'm super nervous about f'ing this up. I see many say it's hard to work with. As my tiles are so small and this is a virgin application, would the soap trick still work? Does it affect how the epoxy will stick in the grout lines? My tile has a bit of a "carnival glass" look to it. I don't want to mess that up either. My dad keeps telling me to use sanded grout and call it a day. Your advice?

Does the expoxy grout help solve the movement in that tile?

Thank you for this video. My kitchen tile was not laid properly no wetting back floors and tile has grout cracking everywhere. I decided we would hire someone else this time but I sent someone else for supplies ( he went to original tiler ) I had copy of color etc. all cracked tiles ( 3 boxes ) were replaced and grouted again but the mess w dust everywhere? This Méthod of etching the tile should make the NEW epoxy 2nd repair far less dust but I’m
Concerned now w the chemical smell. I have a genetic lung disease and last time getting all the dust up even though room was cleared , hvac off , vents taped , doorways sealed , can you offer any other suggestions?
I can’t open windows bc house has anderson windows w no screens! Two half of a large kitchen is being redone the tile store said this would match the other half where there is no issue. I just wonder should we do the entire kitchen ? Bc it’s a completely diff product than original tile installed w sand grout. The other man retired but he kindly offered to give a bid after 9 years and then complete disaster. 3/4 plyboard under and you could feel it moving. That had been remedied.. I’m too old and disabled to have to do this over again , and thankfully the contractor friend helping fix disaster isn’t ripping me off like the first time. Thank you. This video I definitely needed every tip to avoid the dust from the three boxes of tile that had to be replaced due to the entire process was wrong from step one!

Do you have to get rid of old epoxy grout ? or apply on the top of the old one . My epoxy grout is 18 years old and in great condition except where the tile meets the edge of the bathtub.

Is there an approximate sqft that this covers? The one 5kg I bought says "maximum area covered: 0" which is zero help. Trying to do a 60x42 shower (walls and floor) and im worried the two 5kg i bought will not be enough, even though I used 12x24 tiles for the wall.

Hey Jeff, i used the Mapei Cq epoxy for a shower , and while I was working with it I had an emergency didn't wipe off the grout and have some grout and haze on the tiles. Is there anything I can use to remove the epoxy and haze without doing damage? Thank you for the answer in advance. Love the channel and is hands down the best subscription I have.

Mapei makes an epoxy grout haze remover. I know Floor and Decor carries it.

What about the soap in the area where you are applying the epoxie grout -doesn’t this reduce the ability of the grout integrity?

I use soap and water mixed on the soapy side and then coat surfaces I want to keep protected when pouring concrete . I just soap surfaces with a brush and let dry and then the splatter of concrete I let dry and then when its dry it brushes right off because of the barrier it creates.

That will work but it will look different if the wall is not epoxy right now. best to match it if they used unsanded or regrout the whole shower. !

    Good morning
My bathroom was renovated by a professional from Canada and he used schlutter board under the tile and epoxy grout. there are places on the floor where it looks like the grout has
came loose from the tile along the edge leaving a hairline between the tile and the grout.
can I heat up the grout to get it to reseal?
