Personally I'm leaning toward this being either scrapped content left in the game, or an elaborate easter egg that only this person found. I have a theory. So there's been alot going on lately with Nier, alot of promotion wise going on. Many mobile games have been having collaboration and the new switch version with "new story details" is going to come out. This could very well be a promotional tactic to get more views in the game and maybe just maybe there will be something going on in this room on the switch version of the game, perhaps this was a room intended for something before but never got finished/released and thats what the end of Yorha edition will show.

Plus I haven't seen the Yorha raids being discussed as avenues of possibility from what discussions I've seen.

MASSIVE UPDATE PART 2 (7/28): Sadfutago/yoko has gone full mask off. He uploaded five images which depict 9S out of bounds, untextured models floating in a void, assets from the church, etc. In order, the posts are labeled: "z", "e", "3", "4", "zinnia". The only comment sadfutago uploaded during this time, and I swear to fucking god i'm not joking, is again on 2B fanart saying "2b is pretty i like it". MASSIVE UPDATE: Sadfutago has uploaded two more videos as him playing 9S. He's able to open the chest and the blocky entity starts attacking him. In the second video he beats it and interacts with some doves that give him a riddle in japanese which he thought was korean lmao. He doesn't answer correctly and gets sent back to the beginning of the church three times in a row. Apparently the riddle is from Nier replicant and people are trying to get sadfutago to enter the right sequence but he commented on 2B fanart instead and hasn't come back yet. I'll start making an update video tomorrow morning but it probably won't be done until saturday so I'll keep updating here until then.
The book shelves would imply the library from Replicant, The body on the alter would be yonahs since the lunar tear was believed to be the cure for her issues. And the shadow would be either shadowlord or brother nier. There is so much more that can be hidden in it though for example we don’t know what is in the chest/ If you are able to get up to the window above the alter. If there is any other hidden doors, Etc.

Interesting since Sadfutago's game case shows he's a french canadian. Sadfutago also replies to someone asking about his name and just says he's confused since "futago" is a clan name, whatever that means. Another user finds a mod on nexusmods by someone calling themselves sadfutago. The mod is called "church" with a screencap of the church video and a description just saying "sing". It's a text file named "31 32 31 39" and contains binary code that translates to the japanese lyrics for a Drakengard song (main franchise Nier is spun off from). Searching up "31 32 31 39" on twitter shows a private account called "7/31 00:39:32" which was created in 2017. Nobody knows what to make of it. Further update: NexusMod page is gone, Yoko Taro posts a cryptic tweet basically raising his shoulders and saying nothing important other than he like sausages and beer. Modding community still hasn't found anything models that resemble anything from the videos and now are basically joking it's 100% marketing. Modder's discourse in generally chaotic with like one guy arguing it's a mod while another rick rolls everyone. There's a google doc going into intense detail over every aspect of the video, the shadows and shit, and no real conclusions are drawn past what is already talked about.

It doesn't matter whether this is fake or real. The whole thing is bloody genius as it has a LOT of attention and a LOT puzzled and involved on wanting to try and figure it out. If real; AWESOME! More lore, a secret that was hidden from everyone, and an extremely interesting easter egg that's very unique Modded; AWESOME! @@funkydovahkiincat8176 If it's true that this only shows up on the 1.0 French-Canadian disc versions of Automata it would make sense that it contains the assets themselves. For example, the Steam and Gamepass versions of Yakuza Kiwami 2 have different asset tree structures with the latter reading from uncompressed files for certain folders. In the end, as long as the whole thing isn't just unfinished and accidentaly left in from 2017, it's hella impressive. Be it a fake or a promotional tactic, it's quite the effort.

There actually was at least one other Redditor from Discord that was seemingly close to accessing the "Secret Room". It was on a live stream, from what I understand he modded the save game from SadFutago or uploaded his save to his currently modded game on PC. However, it only showed the crossed out button prompt. Therefore he still couldn't access the room. Not too long after, he said his game crashed and that he would make another attempt later.
Your wires are very crossed sir. Two posts were made about this, first one was a confirmed hoax, dude just screenshotted the sadfutago video. Next one was a modded version of another player's save (Navedo I think his name was) being played and livestreamed by another lady I forget the name of atm. It crashed when they tried to interact and its figured to be an invisible item/prompt that's basically just the uploader trolling. As it stands, Sadfutago has no way of sending his save file and its believed he's too young to go modding his PS4 to even begin doing so.

What is it about this possible hoax, ARG, easter egg, whatever the hell it is... that has me so on edge for the past 24 hours regarding anyone finding anything about this? Maybe it is because it feels like some of the sequences just to get there feel unpolished or different than anything else in the game. Also, I'm not sure why... but the idea of a church feels almost unsettling in NieR. Maybe because all of the humanity storyline elements or themes of life or having a soul that this game touches upon. Or maybe ties to Replicant or Drakengard..?
This is a fantastic video! If you keep making video about gaming mysteries I'll keep watching. I know it's sort of a niche game but you should do a video about the "zoo level" from the VR game accounting plus. It's made by one of the guys who made rick and morty amd there's a whole ass conspiracy about the "zoo level". The community's search got so intense that the developers actually released a level in the game to add to the mystery of it all. In the added level the character you encounter is obsessed with finding the zoo level and has boards with pictures and clips from emails and peoples comments with the strings connecting it all. It is truly hilarious but you should do a video about it in the same style as you did for this one.

It’s clear that to prove this is real, the player that discovered this, needs to do it with 9s to hack the chest by what I assume is Yonah with the flower, to discover what is inside. Maybe a weapon? Or a accessory from replicant that never came to automata. I’m excited to see what’s next. More attention is also coming to Automata and hopefully brings in new fans especially with the Switch release coming up.

OMG!!! ok so i thought I'd imagined this or the game bugged or something but i remember being in that area where the door is and seeing the "o" pop up to interact with something mid fight. When i went back to look after clearing the area (I can't remember at what point i came here but it was with A2), there was nothing there to interact with. I remembered playing through a 2nd time after the adam fight and there was nothing there either so I thoguht it was a bug or an item went through the wall. couldn't tell you at what exact point it was in the game, this was 1st playthrough a few years ago. Thought I'd imagined it but maybe not. Might be one of those things where if you go at a very specific time, you HAVE to open it when first prompted or the prompt doesn't reappear. I'm in the UK and have a PS4 preorder, special edition copy that came with the steel case if anyone else has the same copy if it is something not all copies have. gunna need to give this another playthrough x.x

Looks more like Nintendo Switch version of the gameplay. On the last video where you reach the church you can tell very low graphics setting. Using this level is try to hide the low res.
Alright so, I haven't scanned the comments, however I think I understand what's going on. If this is a switch port, or triggered event it's got to be only A2 accessible and here's my reasons as to why: The copied city is a remnant of Nier's old village and the shadow lord's castle. The lore behind the game states each character either gas memories from, or were programed with memories of the prior protagonists. Of you look at the structure and the lunar tear, it looks like the SL praying before Yohna, and well, A2 is supposed to have memories molded off Kaíne. In the new remakes, we got the whole special dcl and events leading to it which the machines would have information on. Maybe during the process when replicating things, Adam made this to understand loss and siblings bonds? Maybe this is connected to sleeping beauty? Maybe this possess some of the final remnants of replica data? There's a lot of possibilities but I feel certain that if this is real, it connects to NieR Replicant and Taro has been planning it for a long time.
The chest next to the Yonah altar can only be opened via 9S's hacking so by that logic that means that the church can be accessed with 9S as well, not only A2.

Bravo for noticing that. I noticed that as well and was wondering why no one else was mentioning it in any comment section. A cutscene only plays the FIRST time you go to an area. Sadfutago has already been inside the church before that video since he had previously posted 2 screenshots of the church's interior, which means he would have triggered the cutscene. Why would it trigger again when he goes back to it in video form? There's something very suspicious about all of this.
@@Mannydude96 That is always a possibility, but the user Sadfutago posted about the church an entire month ago so I find it hard to believe that this normal person didn't save their game after stopping playing that day and has continued playing the game for the past month without saving after going into the church. Yes I know that a month later when he recorded the video that contained the cutscene, he could have theoretically loaded up an older save where he had not gone to the church yet, but why do that? Why not visit the church on your current save file from a month later where you have already been to the church and triggered the cutscene? That's the suspicious part about all of this.

Mostly because the lady on The altar is pretty much the same one from the first Drakengard game while the flower growing out of her is a reference to the girl who had the flower sticking out of her eye in Drakengard 3 I'm not exactly quite sure what the black blob is referencing though.
first time I get to see this and this at least to me looks like the one who uploaded the videos is a developer or someone that for some reason has access to the game project and managed to record this from an unreleased build or added this just for fun. Further update: NexusMod page is gone, Yoko Taro posts a cryptic tweet basically raising his shoulders and saying nothing important other than he like sausages and beer. Modding community still hasn't found anything models that resemble anything from the videos and now are basically joking it's 100% marketing. Modder's discourse in generally chaotic with like one guy arguing it's a mod while another rick rolls everyone. There's a google doc going into intense detail over every aspect of the video, the shadows and shit, and no real conclusions are drawn past what is already talked about.

I'm kind of triggered by the fact that of all the things he tried to interact with inside that room, he never tried touching that box or chest to the right of the altar, that was strangely dark compared to the surroundings.

I still believe it's fake because the models are not in the game files (which is enough to debunk anything), some things on the church could be just regular props with swapped meshes.
@@funkydovahkiincat8176 If it's true that this only shows up on the 1.0 French-Canadian disc versions of Automata it would make sense that it contains the assets themselves. For example, the Steam and Gamepass versions of Yakuza Kiwami 2 have different asset tree structures with the latter reading from uncompressed files for certain folders.
In the end, as long as the whole thing isn't just unfinished and accidentaly left in from 2017, it's hella impressive. Be it a fake or a promotional tactic, it's quite the effort.

There actually was at least one other Redditor from Discord that was seemingly close to accessing the "Secret Room".
It was on a live stream, from what I understand he modded the save game from SadFutago or uploaded his save to his currently modded game on PC.
However, it only showed the crossed out button prompt. Therefore he still couldn't access the room.
Not too long after, he said his game crashed and that he would make another attempt later.
save file wasn't from Futago, it was the other discord guy who also claimed he saw the church
Your wires are very crossed sir. Two posts were made about this, first one was a confirmed hoax, dude just screenshotted the sadfutago video. Next one was a modded version of another player's save (Navedo I think his name was) being played and livestreamed by another lady I forget the name of atm. It crashed when they tried to interact and its figured to be an invisible item/prompt that's basically just the uploader trolling.
As it stands, Sadfutago has no way of sending his save file and its believed he's too young to go modding his PS4 to even begin doing so.

What is it about this possible hoax, ARG, easter egg, whatever the hell it is... that has me so on edge for the past 24 hours regarding anyone finding anything about this? Maybe it is because it feels like some of the sequences just to get there feel unpolished or different than anything else in the game.
Also, I'm not sure why... but the idea of a church feels almost unsettling in NieR. Maybe because all of the humanity storyline elements or themes of life or having a soul that this game touches upon. Or maybe ties to Replicant or Drakengard..?

This is a fantastic video! If you keep making video about gaming mysteries I'll keep watching. I know it's sort of a niche game but you should do a video about the "zoo level" from the VR game accounting plus. It's made by one of the guys who made rick and morty amd there's a whole ass conspiracy about the "zoo level". The community's search got so intense that the developers actually released a level in the game to add to the mystery of it all. In the added level the character you encounter is obsessed with finding the zoo level and has boards with pictures and clips from emails and peoples comments with the strings connecting it all. It is truly hilarious but you should do a video about it in the same style as you did for this one.

I dont think theres gonna be a NieR anime, i think either Yoko Taru was serious when he said NieR is over, or theres gonna be another NieR game which connects to everything that happened in the drakenguard series, NieR, NieR replicant, automata and so on. Since hes just talked about NieR in an interview where he said that if he gets quote "lots of money" quote, theres MAYBE gonna be another NieR game. Think like Yoko, hes smart.

It’s clear that to prove this is real, the player that discovered this, needs to do it with 9s to hack the chest by what I assume is Yonah with the flower, to discover what is inside. Maybe a weapon? Or a accessory from replicant that never came to automata. I’m excited to see what’s next. More attention is also coming to Automata and hopefully brings in new fans especially with the Switch release coming up.
9S hacked the chest today and found a lore entry talking about Yonah's illness.

OMG!!! ok so i thought I'd imagined this or the game bugged or something but i remember being in that area where the door is and seeing the "o" pop up to interact with something mid fight. When i went back to look after clearing the area (I can't remember at what point i came here but it was with A2), there was nothing there to interact with. I remembered playing through a 2nd time after the adam fight and there was nothing there either so I thoguht it was a bug or an item went through the wall. couldn't tell you at what exact point it was in the game, this was 1st playthrough a few years ago. Thought I'd imagined it but maybe not. Might be one of those things where if you go at a very specific time, you HAVE to open it when first prompted or the prompt doesn't reappear.
I'm in the UK and have a PS4 preorder, special edition copy that came with the steel case if anyone else has the same copy if it is something not all copies have. gunna need to give this another playthrough x.x

Looks more like Nintendo Switch version of the gameplay. On the last video where you reach the church you can tell very low graphics setting. Using this level is try to hide the low res.
Alright so, I haven't scanned the comments, however I think I understand what's going on.
If this is a switch port, or triggered event it's got to be only A2 accessible and here's my reasons as to why:
The copied city is a remnant of Nier's old village and the shadow lord's castle. The lore behind the game states each character either gas memories from, or were programed with memories of the prior protagonists.
Of you look at the structure and the lunar tear, it looks like the SL praying before Yohna, and well, A2 is supposed to have memories molded off Kaíne.
In the new remakes, we got the whole special dcl and events leading to it which the machines would have information on. Maybe during the process when replicating things, Adam made this to understand loss and siblings bonds?
Maybe this is connected to sleeping beauty?
Maybe this possess some of the final remnants of replica data?
There's a lot of possibilities but I feel certain that if this is real, it connects to NieR Replicant and Taro has been planning it for a long time.
The chest next to the Yonah altar can only be opened via 9S's hacking so by that logic that means that the church can be accessed with 9S as well, not only A2.

okay. if he's been in the church, and knows about the church, but doesn't know how to access the church, then why is it that the church cutscene triggers upon entry? where else in the game does a cutscene constantly re-occur on entry>? all im sayin is, with all this in mind. its probably a stunt, cause IF HE'S BEEN TO THE CHURCH that cutscene probably shouldn't pop off again. idk.
Bravo for noticing that. I noticed that as well and was wondering why no one else was mentioning it in any comment section. A cutscene only plays the FIRST time you go to an area. Sadfutago has already been inside the church before that video since he had previously posted 2 screenshots of the church's interior, which means he would have triggered the cutscene. Why would it trigger again when he goes back to it in video form? There's something very suspicious about all of this.

@@Mannydude96 That is always a possibility, but the user Sadfutago posted about the church an entire month ago so I find it hard to believe that this normal person didn't save their game after stopping playing that day and has continued playing the game for the past month without saving after going into the church. Yes I know that a month later when he recorded the video that contained the cutscene, he could have theoretically loaded up an older save where he had not gone to the church yet, but why do that? Why not visit the church on your current save file from a month later where you have already been to the church and triggered the cutscene? That's the suspicious part about all of this.

you have a point but then again no one was able to discover this .. so this dude was able to trigger something (by chance) for this room to appear which technically means that he doesn't know how to trigger it again after he restarts the save file ... except is if he know .. and that is alone kinda sus ... because from wut we gat from the video that he just discovered the door by chance didn't know exactly how he triggers it.... so that even more proof that there is even something weird happening, like that doesn't seem your normal average player dude that wanna play nier, that definitely from the dev team or something like that .. there is some fishy play here i swear
