Mike waterson is the most marvelous ballad singer. Actually they all are. With Norma's recent passing, they are all gone now. But Martin Carthy and daughter Eliza are going strong.

The Diamond is a ship, my lads
For the Davis Strait she's bound
The quay it is all garnished
    With bonnie lasses 'round
    Captain Thompson gives the order
To sail the whole world wide
Where the sun it never sets, my lads
    Nor darkness dims the sky
And it's cheer up my lads
    Let your hearts never fail
For the bonnie ship the Diamond
    Goes a-fishing for the whale
    Along the quay at Peterhead
    The lasses stand aroon
Wi' their shawls all pulled around them
And the salt tears runnin' doon
Don't you weep, my bonnie we'll lass
    Though you be left behind
For the rose will grow on Greenland's banks
    Before we change our mind
Here's a health to the Resolution
    Likewise the Eliza Swan
Here's a health to the Battler of Montrose
And the Diamond, ship of fame
We wear the trousers o' the white
    The jackets o' the blue
When we get back to Peterhead
    We'll have sweethearts enou'
It will be bright both day and night
When the Greenland lads come home
Our ship full up with oil, my lads
    And money of our own
We'll make the cradles for to rock
And the blankets for to tear
And every lass in Peterhead sing
    "Hushabye, my dear"

It's an unusual song in that it's properly spelled bonnie not bonny, yet conversely pronounced bonny not bonnie. The original Scots styles it 'Boney ship' for some reason, yet historically it was actually a bunny ship, having been used by 'Auld Crackpot Thompson' in a failed attempt to introduce rabbits to Greenland.

@@Wotsitorlabart No it's a wailing song. The first mate was called Bob Marley. It's all a matter of record. You can check it out for yourself. You won't find anything though.
