Jim - Thank you for the lesson. You cleared up all of my confusion about alternator hookup variations. I just ordered an ACR160 for my GMCMH

Hi Jim - Love your videos. My question on this one is that you describe a scenario where you either have the engine running or connected to shore power, but not both. Would that be a problem if the shore power and the alternator were producing power at the same time? I'm thinking about if you also have solar power which could mean you are charging from both the alternator and the solar system at the same time while driving down the road.

Good question….. not really. The alt or convert will charge to a voltage then cut back. Both will work to get it there then both would city back. Different though with LiPo batteries, that’s a different world. Call if you need more. 321.299.5707

@@motorhomerehabranch That is kind of what I thought. I'm still early in my '76 Eleganza II project and am trying to learn as much as I can. Right now I'm leaning towards using a Renogy 50 Amp MPPT solar charge controller with alternator input. I see 2 possible shortcomings with it though. It only supports up to 400W of solar, which may or may not be enough depending on the rest of the build. And second I don't think it would charge the chassis battery from solar, which could be handy though not a deal breaker.

Funny, the boost solenoid I bought from you is still standing by for install. Now it will go in the box for the next swap meet because I'm definitely doing this instead!

Can you use the acr160 with the oem alternator? Would the wiring be the same?

Yes! And the wiring would also be the same, thank you for that question!
