  • The Sackler family, one of the wealthiest in America, has long been known as a patron of the arts, but only recently did their connections to Purdue Pharma become widely known. The company, which some blame for helping spark the opioid crisis, is privately owned by some members of the family. "48 Hours" correspondent Erin Moriarty reports on the Sacklers, whose name has become a controversial flashpoint in the opioid epidemic, and talks with New Yorker staff writer Patrick Radden Keefe, author of "Empire of Pain: The Secret History of the Sackler Dynasty."

Back in the early 00's Oxycontin was plentiful on the street and the pills were obviously designed to be crushed and snorted. The Sacklers should be stripped of every penny they have and put in the jail cells next to Chapo Guzman at the ADX Supermax Prison.

Good investigative reporting, I ought to look into his book. Following an American tradition started with Upton Sinclair , on his book, “ The Jungle “. It was about Chicago Meatpacking Industry.
He was writing a fiction about the struggles of a Lithuanian Emigre , who at first worked in the industry, and in describing his working conditions on meat packing plants ( at the time Swift and Armour Companies were the biggest ones around ) , Mr. Sinclair delivered a gut punch through people’s stomachs.
Not only the book sold well through generations , the aftermath of his novel popularity produced the Clean Food Act. Americans were revolted by what they read.

These are the ones found of malfeasance in our borders.
Now, someone might find enlightenment in reading FDA logs about our main overseas drug suppliers of active ingredients, non active ingredients , and finished pharmaceutical drugs.
    Chiefly from China and India.
The logs have constant citations of violations and suspensions on the account of failure to adhere to good practices , unsubstantiated and incongruous production reporting, inadequate laboratory equipment, poor water quality, test failures.
Then think about shipments of these drugs to Third World Countries and Smuggled Shipments into the US.
CBS or any investigative journalism outlet ought to look into this.

Of course EVERY addict blames the drug- they NEVER take any responsibility for what they put in their bodies.

Doctors were lied to, encouraged & paid big money to prescribe this prescription drug for patients. That is why there is a lawsuit to begin with.

yes, but in the beginning your personal doctor would prescribe this evil pill for mild pain because the doctor was lied to and believed the sales rep. Then a mom or dad or grandparent would get hooked - these were people who would not even smoke or drink alcohol before becoming 'drug addicts'.
