  • We hiked to Jasper Lake and Devils Thumb Lake in the Indian Peaks Wilderness near Nederland, Colorado on 7/6/2024. This hike offers a great variety of views, from rushing creeks, waterfalls, lush meadows, wild flowers, to pristine alpine lakes. Jasper Lake is bigger of the two and seemed busier, while Devils Thumb Lake was quieter with a more impressive backdrop comprised of Devils Thumb Pass and Devils Thumb rock formation. Total hiking stats from Hessie’s TH: 12.5 miles with 2300ft elevation gain

Looking a little breezy up at Devils Thumb. Pretty green up there right now. Nice video.

Thank you. We had a permit to camp at Devils Thumb that night but decided to make it a day trip due to iffy weather the next day. Glad we did that as the wind was getting stronger in the afternoon

A very nice hike to a beautiful place. I suppose it could be called "The Pond." Thanks!

I’ve seen quite a few of those unnamed ponds in RMNP and IPW over the years

Beautiful hike! I hiked to Jasper Lake in early June when the lower portion of the trail was a flowing stream due to snowmelt. The upper portion of the trail was still under deep snow, making for a tiring trek.
If you have not done so, consider hiking to South Arapaho Peak from the Fourth of July Trailhead. Great views at the top, but the four-mile-long Forest Service road to the TH is in rough shape. Capable hikers continue on to North Arapaho Peak.

Thank you. I’ve done both South and North Arapaho in years past before I started making videos. In fact S Arapaho might be my first CO 13er summited. Plan to go back one day to do the traverse again
