I found that taking a couple of practice swings and look at where you’re interacting with the turf, then move the ball back in your stance where the grass hasn’t been touched. I’ve never hit my irons as well as I have these past two years!
You described exactly what I have been trying to fix. This video helped a ton. Took it to the range and saw immediate change. Thanks for the tips!
This is excellent and very clear instruction, without labouring the point which makes a lot of teaching over-long and/or boring. Really enjoyed it. Subscribed. Thanks.
Clay, you are simply the BEST instructor I've watched. Used a few of your lessons with incredible results. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge in a very understandable way!
Great explanation
Glad it was helpful!
This was a BIG help for me. Thanks so much!
Awesome demonstration… I will be working on this .
Many thanks for your videos they help me no end Dave from London

Great help, I have been working on my weight shift and this video is on point.
Great video Clay really well explained
The towel is the best drill i heard in a long time. Thanks for the advice
Well, we'll find out Saturday morning!! Thx Clay
Good stuff. Trying it tomorrow.
I struggled with shifting the weight to the right being left handed, now I know when to shift it properly. Thanks Clay.
This is what my daughter is working on at the moment , (she’s 6) She swings it great but doesn’t have shaft lean at impact . I’ll be showing her this video , this is the best one I’ve seen anywhere for this !
Bro the board is a brilliant idea ,am gonna make my own ,cheers 👊🏴⛳
Pal you are a Legend!!
Thank you so much!
Your videos have me jonesing to get out and start implementing these techniques. If only the snow would melt, and the temps increase, so I could actually hit the range. Thanks for the great content!
Great explanation!
Thanks!
Great video
Very clear practical and helped a lot .
Great to hear!
I hit high iron shots my playing buddies ask "how" my swing thought is simple I don't think "club" "ball" I think of the sole of the club and the turf, this gives you the feel of the ground and club so you can adjust your angle and plane to suit any lie giving you correct contact with the ball, the club does the rest.
That's great Bob! Thanks for sharing.
Hi Clay... big fan and longtime subscriber.... can you briefly touch on the lead leg during this sequence. Specifically, when you are covering the ball, pointing the end of the club toward your target at lag point, and doing a quad/straight lead leg to snap your momentum from hip to hands.
Thank you!!!
You're welcome!
Add the eye line golf aid web site to your description. Thanks for everything Caly!!
Lately two important concerns about the golf swing for me. Firstly positioning the hands after leaning the club towards the target and now making sure that my left knee moves towards the target as I’m feeling for the backswing transitioning into the downswing. I suppose we can say that Ben Hogan overemphasized the left knee moving towards the right knee on the backswing.
Dear Mr. Ballard...I have done drill after drill of yours and have worked and worked and worked, and I cannot stop hitting ground before the ball. I even emulated your ideal mechanics at 50% speed or half swings just so it's easier to execute proper sequence and motions, all to no avail. I'll hit a couple flush then three behind the ball. I've put a towel down behind the ball and practice and practice missing that towel. Nope. Can't miss it to save my life. Got lag. Got weight shift. Got rotation. Now I've got serious FRUSTRATION
Thank you so much for sharing this great video. I want to buy that Davit Mat and Plexi Glass. Please share the link. I am in Calgary Canada
I play with the i210's. Love them
Hi. Can I use this method on all irons, especially sw, pw, lb?
Hi the foot board looks a great practice aid which will help my practice sections, can provide with dimensions of the foot pegs many thanks
where is the link for the plastic board to use instead of the towel?

Will this help ,at the range i was hitting my 9,8,7, irons the same distance thanks 😥
I have no problem hitting my wedges on thru to my 6 iron. 5 iron is okay, but 4 iron, 3 iron, and fairway wood tons of trouble. As the club gets longer i am hitting the ground first just before the ball. What do i need to do as the clubs get longer to hit them consistently pure? Please help!
do you have discount code for speed trap?
where do I buy those 2 training aids?
Hi good morning nice videos I can see the concept with you shifting weight on the board but that would be causing to much hip sway in the swing.
Thanks for sharing. Play well!
What is the name of the golf practice mat? I would like to purchase.
One other disadvantage to having the club vertical at impact is increased loft on the clubface, shortening your distance. I suffer from this big time.
Balancing on the left side after contact with the ball isn’t possible if I’m over trying to hit the ball with force.
I read your thumbnail as TURF THEN BALL, lol.
I could see how that might be confusing at first! Thanks for the input.
it is enough, at set up, to put 55/60% of weight on the left leg and the divot is always after the ball
Teeter totter good idea
Hope it helps!
It takes allot of practice to hitting the ball flush solid contact. I know because i hit behind the ball most the time. There is a fine line between hitting the ball fat, and hitting the ball thin and topping it. Looks easy when you show it, but it is not.
I keep hitting the towel on the way back. Any suggestions?
I'd lay the towel flatter on the ground. Best of luck!
"heres a little half swing probably gonna go 100 yards" *goes 188 yards* lmao
😂 half swing 6 iron > my drives
I’ve learned thin is better than chunk. I couldn’t stop chunking for 2 straight years so I just put the ball on a high tee. Even if you go under the ball you still get decent contact.
Wouldn’t it be the same as saying that on your stance your weight should be 60% on your right leg and 40% on your left leg? If I shift my weight to the right side it usually doesn’t come out very well. Our group jokes about it and we say to our partners, you are swaying. LOL
drills and thoughts are useless...unless Clay spits the bean on how to really acheive it....but it will mean going bankrupt....
