    It's funny because Cronk and Thurston are so good and have seemingly been for so long, you almost forget that for a lot of Queensland's 8 year streak, Darren Lockyer (who I believe is the best ever) was playing five eighth.

    The most successful origin teams consisted of players that were familiar with each other’s game for the most part. Importantly there has to be a large element of selflessness which contributes to team cohesion. Gallen was atrocious in this arena but yet they kept picking him. He was the ultimate hype machine that they hoped would inspire the rest of the team but worked in reverse because other players just didn’t feel a sense of worthiness, which in turns drives individualism. If NSW won it would have been because of Gallen and not because of a team effort. Needless to say they were dismal in his era!

    Why did the halves combination change after 2014, Yet we kept picking players like Farrah, he kicked the ball out on the full almost every Origin he played in. There’s other players that simply have no impact, like Ferguson, Morris on the wing has great experience, he’s a good winger but again.. no impact yet they keep picking them. Hayne at centre? Could have a specialist centre like Jimmy the Jet, Addo-Carr on the wing, Turbo Tommy on the other wing, this year Mitchell has to be the other centre. Maloney and Cleary in the halves, like it just seems too obvious who should be picked, yet these selectors just keep putting the wrong blokes on the field?? Your forwards are obviously going to be a mix of the top 4 teams, not hard, but you watch the blues pick a bunch of blokes who have been there before and been known to be at the pub blind drunk, lose games year after year, run the ball to the wrong side of the field to an injured player?? Like an under 13’s squad know that you target defensive weaknesses, this previous mob have proven they don’t have Origin potential. Have to find winners, not pick blokes based on who’s mates sons are playing, it’s not a popularity contest now is it?!!

    NSW have got great players,there is no doubting that, and some will go down as some of the greatest ever to play the game, so there is no reason why they shouldn't be winning more when we look at it from an ability point of view.
    But for some reason, in my opinion, Queensland just seem to play for a different cause than their southern counterparts which seems to have more important and personal significance which seems to get the best out of them more often than their opponents throughout it's history in this arena.
    NSW needs to find a purpose in the blue jumper at origin level to give them motivation to play for when they put it on, because I know what the purpose is when every Qld player puts on that maroon jersey, and more often than not, it shows in favour of Qld!

  • @nickrunaway2
    @nickrunaway2 Před 6 lety +5

    His logic doesn't really make sense in this scenario though because queenslands spine basically select themselves. nsw have not had the luxury of having as many superstar players who play so consistently, hence why they've had to swap players every year.

    • @michelledafinis5572
      @michelledafinis5572 Před 6 lety +2

      Nothing to do with that ! More to do with dumbass selectors

    • @MrPaulviles
      @MrPaulviles Před 6 lety +1

      Yes but you missed his point, it is not about just a super star it is about a team........for example don't pick 2 super stars to play centre and wing but rather pick the best centre and wing combination who play together all the time.
      Don't forget locky, smith and Thurston took time to get their games together and Qld lost a lot of games while that happened. So that was his other option or point, you can pick superstars to play together but you have to be will to lose for long enough for them to learn to play together IF they ever can and can't swap them out after each game like NSW have been.

    • @dalysiastokes5361

  • @Mac-jx8uj
    @Mac-jx8uj Před rokem +1

    The blues have always beaten them selves at the selection table mainly because they have so many top players to choose from ,Qld always stick but often it's because they have no choice . I really hope the NRL Peter. Valandys don't fuck origin up by tinkering with it ,it was never meant to be an all stars game it's state against state mate against mate if your not available for the kangaroos you not available for origin simple but they will play with it and then it will be lost for ever . Leave it be pls .
