Snowy Mountains, Long Plains Region… Solo Camping, Miserable Weather.

- This time I'm up in the Snowy Mountains - Kosciuszko NP and exploring the Long Plains area. The weather is shithouse, it's cold and raining ... but its not stopping me from getting out and about on my break from Snowy 2.0.
I check out the Tantangara Dam, camp at Ghost Gully Campground, check out Long Plains Hut, Cooinbil Hut and cross the Murrumbidgee River a few times.

Yeah, them bloody season closures are a killer. Expecting 10cms over the next 3 days up here… Its shit, great for content but nearly every track is closed. 🤦🏽

Bloody awesome mate love that country been there on a number of occasions, fished the upper Bidgee and the Yarrangobilly and been to the caves a few times.

It’s my 2nd time to Blue Waterholes and I’ll be back to walk to the caves next time, just had a plane to catch the the GC to see my kids.

I was just there in 2nd week of May filming my own vid series.
Snowed before I got there, and been snowing since I left, but I missed it in between.

Yeah snows on the 4th or 5th from memory, and again late in May. But had a good dump again Yesty. It’s shit when ya got to work in the snow and can’t get out and explore.

Coolamine was a nice little homestead. And Blue Waterholes was nice I just got there too late and felt lazy so decided not to do the gorge walk in Crocs 🤣

Hi, love your work. The Murrumbigee starts at the top of Long Plain sort of near Blue Water Holes but further west and then runs into Tantangarra dam. The other great river that runs due East and then does a 180 degree turn is the Mitta Mitta.

True mate on the Mitta Mitta but it would be lucky to be 15ks before it changes direction at Hinnomunjie and heads north towards the Dartmouth Dam. Prior to being the Mitta Mitta it’s the Big River.
Only realised that the Murrumbidgee started up in Long Plains region when I got there. Thought it might of been like the Snowy River and started at the dam wall, and it’s name changed like Eucumbene River.
You’ll get me on a lot of facts mate, but I reckon the Mighty Murrumbidgee is the only true river to do this. 👍🏼

Noice drone footage old mate. A few years ago those rocks on that “small” hill would have been a magnet for the drone. 😂 and you’re not far from my backyard at long plain.

Half ya luck on the camping, bloody troopy has been giving me some grief.
This drone doesn’t hate me a much as the last one, seems to want to stay up in the air a lot more. 😂
It’s a great area, lucky to have it in the backyard, just a shame they shut it down for the seasonal closures.

@@nudibanches just showing it’s age mate. Harmonic Balancer almost come off, wiper motor and linkages needed replacing, and a few other little things. Nothing major. Just the time to get parts etc on my time off … some times can be challenging.
@@aguyandhistroopy Yep, a lot of people think Toyotas are bullet proof. They aren't, while the ones from the 90s and early 2000s were ridiculously over-engineered, they still need regular maintenance. My 80 has just turned over 400k on the clock, engine never opened and it's running great, but I am always keeping a close eye on things...

Crazy to see how little water was around that causeway at this time, i was there a couple of weeks ago on the 28th of May and that causeway is completly underwater again! Hopefully the water level drops again soon as id love to do another big loop from the long plain area all the way around back to the snowy mountains highway! Also great video as always mate! :)
Jacob … we had a bit of snow early in May. Water rose a heap with the snow melt, would be 5 meters higher I reckon now.
No rush to get back up here for that drive, it’s all a seasonal closure which is a shame, it’s a beautiful area.

Is it still possible to do a tour of any of the turbine halls of the Snowy Hydro Scheme ? I haven't been up there for about 15 years.
I really couldn’t tell you to be honest mate, they use to I’m pretty sure.

You can still get in to Murray 1, but not into Tumut 2 unfortunately, not sure about Tumut 3 🤷♂️
