He has beautiful hair even in the beginning, I think people just seem to be more critical of curly hair :/ use a microfiber towel instead of a regular towel! Seriously it decreases the frizz a ton. I was legitimately shocked to see this celebrity hair stylist using a regular towel on his curly hair, I learned that very early on looking into curly hair care its like one of the basics in the curly hair community. All the rest of the stuff is on point though! stay away from silicones and sulfates, they can really jack your shit up.

Honestly I am going thru the same changes with my hair. I use to have straight hair until puberty then I flat ironed it ALL the time (I was an emo kid too) Now I'm learning how to deal with my natural waves/curls. And my mom who has the same hair isn't present in my life so I never learned how to deal. So I really appreciate this journey lol makes me feel like I'm not alone.

I just buzzed mine after growing it out for 3+ years. Can confirm that knowing your hair type does take some time to actually grow it out and see the result first hand in order to style it properly.

Go to Sally's or even Walmart and they have a "ethnic" hair section and they work *wonders* on curly hair!! My hair is about 40 inches and if I use a good styling product and use a blow dryer on low or cool with a diffuser, it makes beautiful curls.
