  • Review of 5 Green mango varieties. Nam Dok Mai, R2E2, Keow Savoy, Kook Lom Krom, Apple Mango.
If you have never tried a green mango, do yourself a favour and give them a go! You won't regret it. Try go for the Keow Savoy as 1st option as they are the most popular and common at many Asian grocery shops / farm stalls.
Keep in mind to pick out the most firm ones, and eat them crunchy. As soon as they soften the texture and flavours all diminish. Try them in salads as well, great additions.
Apple Mango is my all time fav but is pretty rare in the western world, so if you are ever in Asia or the Pacific keep a look out :)

Good info, Interesting that you found so many different green mangos here. There is supposed to be a few new aussie mango varieties out this year, keep an eye out for them. Scarlett is the name of one, cant remember the others.

Where do you get this info from? Is this from the mango farm near Bowen? I've heard they have the most varieties in Australia.

@@mytropicalfruitforestlife it was just a news article I read. I haven't seen them at the shops yet. But when buying mangoes I'm usually only looking for honey gold.

@@willsgarden6740 Ah ok, so maybe just different mango farms have done some new grafting for the market. That's exciting, I'm all about the diversity :)

I tried a green Elephant Mango from an Asian super market. It was a green unripe fruit, A one pound mango.
It was a bit crunchy but slightly sweet . And no tartness at all. Have you tried it?
I aim to sprout the seed. They say if the fruit has an "S" shape then it has a poly embeyonic seed. Meaning if it germinates, it might be able to produce the exact same characteristic fruit.
    Can hardly wait.🥱

Yes I have a couple times. They are in the 'savoury' box not sweet and not bitter. Great if you want to pickle or put them in salads. They're also a bit expensive compared to the sweeter smaller varieties so I over look them a little. Good luck on the germination, I did not know about the S shape theory, let me know how it goes :)

When you eat them green, you need the pepper dip to go with it. That's how Asians roll!
