The part that no one talks about is how during the 4 years of an elected government, the promises they made are rarely followed through on but now during the run up to the election, every party has policies they want to introduce to get elected. Why can't these policies be presented during the 4 years?
It is easy to put policies out there then just don't follow through. This is why our infrastructure is crumbling and things not working. Everything costing more but where is the money going?

But Lewis's point was that Truss is treated differently because she has been a PM, and there is a moral obligation to 'represent' Britain in an appropriate way rather than come out with conspiracy nonsense.

Personally I think people should say what they like and we can make our own opinion and yes challenge them if need be.
The idea that a former PM should be seen as a dignified statemen is an ideal. They all seem to have large negative problem with them.
The draining of the swamp claim I think is a sound bite but may reflect an inertia of civil service to act serving the PM rather than their own opinions.
