Thanks for allowing us along on your hikes. As you were discussing, im one of those people who bcuz if neck and back issues cant do this anymore. But your hikes remind me of my hikes in Japan.
For any one interested, my favorite hike was 92 ir 93 near Osaka. I took a skyride over a gorge to a hiking trail with tons of people. Not a surprise in Japan. So I kept walking for a few hours to finally find the waterfall and mountain center. Of course with vending machines 😊
It was packed with people but there was a parh leading on but no one was taking it, instead returning back rhe wat we came. So of course i took it. Being alone in Japan is sometimes something very special. I kept walking realizing maybe it was too late to return and get skycar. This was ling before Internet. Lol
Well i finally came upon a well paved road and i heard thunder. Being a Floridian, i knew it was tine to get back somehow. So down the road towards the town, hopefully, i carried on. Within 10 minutes a VW bus drove by and stolped as i was now hitchhiking 😮. About 5 Jalanese college aged students stopped and took me to rhe station. I spoke very good Japanese at the time but i also liked to speak English with Japanese people who wanted to. It was an amazing day and everything that us great about Japan.

Over 20 years ago, long before I visited Japan myself, I read the blog of an English language teacher in the JET program who was placed in Wakayama. He spoke very highly of Wakayama and how fortunate he felt to be placed there, and how he preferred it to Tokyo or a big city. Watching your footage, I can finally understand exactly what he meant! Wakayama will definitely be in my itinerary the next time I'm in Japan (along with Nagano, and the 'Mononoke Forest'). 🌲💚

Some of the bird sounds are soo typical to the Japanese climate and island that they become staples of exploring such an amazing wilderness.
What I loved the most or at least one of the tops was all the iconic sounds, from nature to urban - Japanese people really know the importance of just enjoying what is around you, hence keeping low voices or quiet on the streets, trains, etc.

Thanks for taking us along on this morning mountain hike. I'm with you on this time of day being perfect for hikes. Sunlight lancing through trees in the early morning is just wonderful. There is a bus stop close to where Norm finishes his trek. You can get off the bus there, walk the 500m of this Daimon-zaka part of the Kumano Kodo as a stepping stone to your exploration of Nachi Falls and its temple area. Alternatively, there is another stop close to where Norm disposes of his hiking pole if you are feeling less energetic.

Exploring more of Wakayama is on my next Japan trip. I've really only been to Koya-san and the amount of streams you've done from Wakayama for the 1,000,000,000 seconds trip just makes me want to go and explore more.

I'm so glad you share these things with us, and have a broad perspective--to travel and visit other countries, I need a full-time job to afford it...but in order to have the time to explore and hike the way I want to, I'd need to not be working. 2 weeks is not long enough to enjoy a place, but most jobs won't let you leave for months at a time.
Until I can get there, I will live vicariously through your videos, and I cannot thank you enough for sharing them.

This has been such a beautifully-shot video and an absolute joy to watch. Thank you for taking us with you, Norm. I used to love early morning walks when I still lived with my parents. I occasionally get bouts of insomnia, so I'd get up and dressed and go for a walk to the woods and farmer's fields near where my parents lived. If I got there early enough, just after dawn had broken, I could sit and watch the wild rabbits going about their bunny business before going back to their warren. I still remember this time of my life very fondly.

Man, something I've come to love about Japan is how the towns and suburbs, outside of Tokyo, don't just cut away and clean off all the vegetation. The moss on all the walkways and all the plant life everywhere. We have some of that in Louisiana but it's not nearly as aesthetically pleasing. At least I can relate to the humidity during the summertime.

My Wife and I have watched every one of your videos on all 3 of your channels and there is one constant thing that we just can't figure out.
