- Concept for how I wish the Switch menu looked and sounded. I might try to homebrew this for myself one day. Made in TurboWarp, Photoshop and After Effects.

The one thing that would really make this work is if the music seamlessly transitions into each different menu.

Interesting fact, Nintendo eshop should've had music, but for some reason it haven't been implemented into actual release version of switch, even though music file was actually found
@@kelpie6978 Oh, real? Where can I find the music
@@wariowarecomixczcams.com/video/ivRsSeoEW_0/video.html
@@wariowarecomixthere is a video on CZcams already
It’s wild how some simple music and an animated wallpaper elevates the Switch UI from an absolute drag and bore to something with emotion and life.
This. This is what the Switch 2 needs.
Definitely agreed! I miss so much about the Wii U era of Nintendo. It was a bit (very) clunky and a bit of a laughing stock with people but it had personality and charm to share and the games were so polished and fun. The menus and aesthetic are one of the standouts for sure
@@wariowarecomixyes
Nintendo hire this man
@@wariowarecomixThe games are still polished and fun on the Switch, probably more so.
I wouldn’t really call the Switch menu a drag or a bore…it’s serviceable at worst. It could certainly be better, though.
@@WickedBowserJr I'd say it depends. The Switch has some of the highest highs for Nintendo, but it also does have some lows, imo. Like, you have all-around masterpieces like Super Mario Odyssey, then some games that are solid or even great entries in their series but are missing a liiittle bit of integral DNA like Pikmin 4's oversimplified and flat UI presentation and the new WarioWare titles that can't quite get the character designs or writing right (though that problem started with WarioWare Gold on the 3DS in fairness), and then you have straight up dumpsterfire situations like Nintendo Switch Sports with the ungodly unlock system for avatar options, the "launch the game now, finish it later with an update" mentality that's infiltrated a lot of the company's casual output, and whatever in fresh hell a Sportsmate is
I do suppose every era of Nintendo does have its standouts and its stinkers as well as some great games with a few questionable decisions but somehow the rate of Nintendo dropping titles with questionable amounts of care and polish has felt a bit more frequent...or maybe I just think so because I'm keeping a closer eye on their releases these days :-P
I’m amazed this far into the switch lifecycle, the UI is essentially the same. They could have done some cool UI themes in the style of the past consoles. NES-WiiU. Great video!
They hate us lol
Apparently it’s to increase performance times but we all know it would have minimal effect on that
@@Andrew-ww1hzThat’s stupid, considering it’s already under clocked anyway
@@Andrew-ww1hz Honestly if it really was about performance, they could've still given us the choice to choose the color of the background instead of only light or dark themes.
3DS even had themes and Nintendo could just BRING THEM OVER AND PUT THEM ONTO THE SWITCH AGHHHHHH JUST DO IT!
One thing I miss from the Wii days is every game having a splash screen. You would select the game icon from the menu and you’d get a little animated menu themed around the game that might have music/sound. Added a lot of character to the UI. Somehow two generations later we get a completely 100% barebones, soulless menu.
That was always fun! Definitely peaked with the Wii's skeuomorphic approach where everything was TV and channel themed. I'm not sure how well splash screens would work with the snappy design of the Nintendo Switch, one of its most praised features, but I think they could have pulled off something like what the 3DS did where simply scrolling over to an application makes a special effect containing the logo and other flourishes pop up with a special sound effect
@@wariowarecomix I think it would work out if the games logo etc is portrayed behind the icons, like that it will fill the screen up with the logo/theme of the game
THATS WHATS IS MISSING AND I NEVER REALIZED IT!!! The Wii really was the best cause of that you could get a feel for what the game was like before you even play it and I wish Switch had that!
I love that so much, no wonder I've been sticking with my 3ds more lately compared to my switch
I don't like it that Nintendo doesn't really care about customizing their menus nowadays. The Wii, DSI, Wii U, and 3DS have menu music and their menu designs are all unique in some way.
I think they’re trying to make the ui “modern” and simplistic like how houses look more like cubes and are always black and white
Good point, but I just don’t like it that things nowadays are becoming more modern….I just wish I could travel back in time😔😩😤
It could be due to how weak the switch actually is. It's not *that* much stronger than the Wii U but since games are way more demanding now than back with the Wii U, they had to sacrifice the menus in order to have more resources (Ram mainly) for the games. The Wii U only had 2 GB of Ram, 1 of which was for the menus alone. The switch has 4 GB, going with a very minimalistic menu was a much better choice than going with something that eats 25-50% of what's available.
@@Zxanonblade oh… well now we sacrificed having a fun console for faster games…
@@stupidrobotproductions627 I think having the games run significantly better is worth sacrificing some menus that you'll ultimately only be on to select a game anyways. Like, have you seen how badly the eshop runs on switch? That's what the whole menu to select a game would be like if they made it look pretty.
I'm glad they kept their hardware in mind when designing it, and hopefully on the next console, they have enough room to make the menus look nice, run well, and still have resources for the games.
This is insanely awesome
I wish the Switch was like this, it's exactly what I thought the Nintendo 'NX' would be. They shouldve brought back Wara Wara Plaza and the streetpass the Switch absolutely needed it
do you mean Mii plaza?
@@Blockstarboyssupergaming No, it was offically named the Wara Wara Plaza, the Mii Plaza is only from the 3DS
I would love a ps home type thing for the miis even add in some miiverse into it
Think a free roam wii sports resort, where you can walk to diffrent wii sports to play then go decorate an apartment with stuff you win then pull out a phone to access miiverse
I miss miis, miiverse and ps home
@@Star.6739 Oh, I thought that meant mii plaza for 3ds.
Having a dedicated Mii application would be a huge reason why people would be so on board with this concept, I personally love the Wii U and it’s UI, and the Switch having the Mii section in the System Settings was the weirdest thing I noticed when I got my Switch
I love this theme 😮
Thanks!
This is criminally underrated, it’s such a simple yet cool concept for the switch
You did not forget about the Mii channel. Excellent work! 👍
Good catch! Thank you!
This is one million times better than what we have now
tbh people should start a petition for nintendo to at least imtegrate menu music you can switch on
If you ever turn this into a real theme pack, please share! I love it! 🙂
I've never heard the music before but it still feels so Nintendo
It does, right? Thaddeus Silva does amazing work
This is beyond better than the actual UI! It’s such a shame the UI doesn’t have any charm.
It’s crazy how much music adds to just the menu alone. It feels so much more alive
one unfortunate fact is you sadly cannot currently play music in the menu with modded themes, but you can with a homebrew named triplayer, so this was convincing enough regardless. id love to see this made into homebrew
I'll have to look into Triplayer if I ever mod my Switch!
@@wariowarecomix its just your basic music player, it works in most games (skyrim seems to crash the switch with it, but totk runs perfectly fine), in the menu, and in its homebrew app form as well. you can also set up playlists and add song metadata. its automatic database function doesnt seem to work anymore, so adding pictures is manual now but thats easy too
@@MakenaForest Ah, thanks!
That's not entirely ideal for what I have in mind, unless someone figures out a way to make it play and pause specific songs depending on specific scenarios (does it _really_ feel like authentic menu music if I have to constantly turn "switch menu.ogg" on and off by hand lol) but if it's the best option out there I suppose it may have to do
This could actually work. Maybe the switch could have a thing where nintendo switch online people could get a custom theme of different consoles and more stuff like the 3ds did
WHY THIS NEEDS TO BE A THING IVE WANTED THE SWITCH TO HAVE THE SAME FEEL AS OTHER NINTENDO CONSOLES FOR YEARS OMG HOW DID YOU DO IT
Finding assets online (the Wii U UI, the music of composer Thaddeus Silva who has a channel you should totally check out pronto, as well as this Wii U background loop m.czcams.com/video/gyv80bpKgF0/video.html), taking screenshots of my own Switch menu, lots of Photoshop and patience, and assembling all the non-video together in TurboWarp as an interactive mockup then screen recording that, and finally overlaying the Wii U background footage on top of the rest in After Effects
@@wariowarecomix oh wow, this must have taken ages to make!!
@@FunzeeTime yeah it took a bit!
This is such an an amazing concept for the switch home menu. Just add another layer of depth to it.
It just makes me realize that even some music in the background would make the current switch home menu so much better.
I'd absolutely love that on the Nintendo Switch as it would give it that Nintendo touch than not. Course, the Nintendo DS menu was silent but I wish they followed that trend to make it interesting to use, similar to the GameCube, Wii, 3DS and Wii U. That's the one thing I miss, even though I have adjusted to it for a long time. An Mii Maker would of been sick as a software there than being moved in the settings.
YOO LEGACY HOMESCREENS ARE SUCH A GOOD IDEA THOUGH
wii u and switch collab
Thanks Wii
@@wariowarecomix np switch
Wii are gona give u the menu switch
Wii u
This is so good, adds so much charm to the menu
You've def nailed the feel of the menu. That looks clean as hell.
WE NEED THIS
We also need the scrapped eshop music for the switch it sounds so nice
Omg this looks amazing! If I wasn’t scared to mod my switch I would get this!
A theme with a personality woah
I like the switch UI it just REALLY needs SOMETHING, same with its eShop like they both need music, or with the home screen so what PlayStation does and have a short song/tune from the game you're hovering over play
It’s amazing, all it needs is more motion when opening a menu and music that seamlessly shifts between eachother
Man... the Frutiger Aero aesthetic in this is *GLORIOUS.*
If I ever end up properly designing UI for things I'll push for Frutiger Aero influences as much as I can
@@wariowarecomix It's a refreshing aesthetic. Every aesthetic prior to it was great as well.
But now we're stuck with this oversimplified rubbish.
@@ObscureGun We better not, because I'm so sick of it.
And I'd like fashion to be more colourful and varied like the 80s and 90s.
This isn't really Frutiger Aero, but more Technozen, which is a branch of Frutiger Aero that might as well just be it's own thing. I consider it separate from Frutiger Aero.
Crazy thing is the 3ds used to be like the switch. Only allowing you to change the colors of the menu. But after a huge update, they allowed themes and custom music to be played. I hoped the switch would eventually follow suit years ago but never came to be. If there is a Switch 2/Pro, it's gonna need this. While also updating the current switch in the process.
This is the best design Nintendo you need to make this
This is so good. We need this
its honestly shocking just how barebones the switch ui is compared to the wii, wii u, and 3ds. It almost makes you wonder if the system was rushed out sooner than intended due to the wii u's failure considering the tiny launch library and hardware issues (joycon drift, warping, poor battery life, ect)
That is how the Switch should look like
Much. Better. great concept! I need this!!
THIS IS LITERALLY SO GOOD-
I WISH THIS WAS OFFICIAL BY NINTENDO, THIS LOOKS SO AWESOME
Thanks! Glad you like it!
I can't believe you made a menu better than Nintendo on SCRATCH

This is really neat! I love the sound effects!!
Thanks! The sound effects are actually the official Switch ones!
@@wariowarecomixthe Nintendo switch had no music
How in the world do random people on the internet make more enjoyable UIs than multi billion dollar corporations
that being said, great job! looks amazing!
Thank you! Glad you like it!!
I guess Nintendo's priorities were elsewhere, and they were too embarassed with the Wii U to keep evolving their presentation further in the same direction, instead doing a total 180...understandable, but really a shame :-/
But they could at least have done one as a purchaseable theme! Themes are a free money printer and they never made use of that
probably yeah, but I used to love just doing nothing in the home menu of the 3ds just because the music was nice, or browsing the 3ds eShop because it had such a nice atmosphere. You could legitimately get me to purchase something on that shop just because I liked the music, which was the only thing bringing me there. The switch eShop by comparison is so boring and silent AND it's pretty laggy for me, I NEVER go there to browse for games like I did with my 3ds because it just doesn't have the same vibe.
it's a shame that nintendo has regressed in terms of interface for the switch. The old consoles like the 3DS, Wii, Wii U etc had a lot of charm, had a real atmosphere, background music, free features in the interfaces etc... now there is nothing c is empty and sad. I hope the next nintendo console will go back to console-like interfaces instead of doing some clean, boring thing to look "modern"
love the wiimote just fylin around in the background
Amazing concept, great work!
Thanks!
I mean theoretically this could easily be modded.
Custom switch themes also support animations
looking awesome. the wii u being one of my favorite consoles of all time, this makes me smile that someone remembers it.
Thank you! The Wii U is a system I'll always treasure even if I own a pretty slim library for it
This is so fucking beautiful. Well done! I can't wrap my my mind around how Nintendo could go from this to the current Switch UI.
I love this idea so much. You know what would make it better though. Add all of those Wii U/3DS stuff like Streetpass and Miiverse
I've been on a hiatus and working on other projects, but as soon as I have motivation to continue version 2, something like that is coming!
The menu theme, the music and the Mii channel. This is what The switch could've been.
This actually makes it iconic!
honestly, I kinda smiled seeing turbowarp in the description, this is well done ! :)

The Wii U was such a vibe, very nostalgic too, the switch could benefit from something along the lines of this.
I noticed that the battery % is at 17 percent. That’s messing w me
OMG this BREATHES LIFE into the Switch. If we don’t get an update bringing back music and themes for the Switch or the next console, it’s curtains for me and Nintendo🙅♀️
=) Perfection. And this whole thing is such a small addition to the Switch, but it already adds a great deal.

I love this so much!
Every part of it.. its perfect...

This is so cool!
If you do homebrew this theme into switch, I would homebrew my switch in a heartbeat!! Keep up the great work!
You should homebrew it regardless. Just don't pirate and/or go online with cheats that'll give you an advantage and you're golden.
This is beautiful and really nostalgic since I had a wii u as a kid ever since launch day 😢
Wow this is beautiful.
This is honestly so cute!

Having tried some of the custom layouts for hacked Switch home screens, this actually looks doable. You'd have to pair it with a sysmod that pays attention to which applet you're using and plays the matching BGM, but honestly this could work on an actual Switch!
That's really looks like something from the Iwata era. I love it!
Looks way better and charming.
