Rudd was voted in with a mandate from the Australian people to fix our hospitals! Gillard, after she'd knifed Rudd in the back, totally ignored the wishes of the Australian people and declared that she didn't promise that. Her party did though, and Australian's voted for the labour party based on it's policies! This was a total disgrace!! She made it all about her and didn't care what the Australian public think! This speaks volumes. Unfortunately Julian is correct. If you want a change in Australia, you should call Washington. I agree that the Australian public shouldn't be so complacent. We shouldn't let our greedy self gratifying government do as they please without consequences. We should all lobby our local mp's until they raise Julian's plight in parliament. At least then it would gain public and media attention!
However, given the example of our hospital systems (which has deteriorated further since this video was released) i mentioned above, do you really think any Australian politician is going to risk upsetting the American establishment, to do what it's constituents want? Not a chance, they are part of the same system.
It's very sad that society has fallen this far. Why do they hate Julian? He exposes the truth! The question we should be asking ourselves is; if these people were acting with the honesty and integrity that America used to have, they would have nothing to fear! People that fear the truth have something to hide.
Google which country has committed the most war crimes? How many wars, coups, and regime changes have they been directly or indirectly involved with? The reason most people aren't aware of these things is the ownership of the corporate media. They are just trying to set an example with Julian. We have the power to spin this in the opposite direction. If enough people are aware of his plight, even though we mightn't get him released, we all have voices and can champion his cause! He was brave enough to go against a sea of opposition to expose the truth. Edward Snowden and others have also done the same at great personal risk. I only wish there were more of them and they got more media exposure.

I live in Australia but here he is popular only with better educated left lining people. I could say I'm one, only way more independent than most of them. What surprised me is, just how many ordinary people in my street and suburb don't really like Julian. And my suburb of Sydney is one of the most leftist one. Australians generally speaking are far less political than us or European people. They just don't seem to care that Julian's horrific treatment, even as an Aussie, matter.

Left and right wing issues are differentiated in particular different ways, across countries. Left or right in a capitalist country often are very similar. Mainly different on socio-economic issues. In Socialism these terms, left and right often differentiate on strictly foreign affairs, response to aggression, corruption and political education for the local population. There is always plenty of debate of the different views, of how to respond to a particular issue. The Anglo American world neglects, or is unaware that in socialist countries there are different, and sometimes very opposing political parties.
Anyway, it's great to see that you seem to like our Julian, perhaps even more than we like him in Oz.

I was riveted to Eisenhower's speech warning about the dangers of the military industrial complex as he left office all those years ago. I didn't understand how right he was at the time although I did take it seriously. I was too young to put it together and realize how bad it might get. Most Assange videos don’t allow comments, I refuse to watch such. The comments and thoughts of the people are overwhelmingly favorable to him being freed. His story’s are 100% factual and true and those in power are desperate to silence him........why could that possibly be?

year’s Gavin MacFadyen award; this is the only award
given solely by whistle-blowers.
As a whistle-blower who has seen widespread abuse and
torture inflicted on vulnerable people, it was the
media that helped us to protect those with no voice.
Having campaigned and supported over 7000 whistleblowers from all sectors, I know that when you are
standing alone against the might of multi nationals
or governments, that the only champion you need is
someone with the courage to publish the truth.
The most common thread that ran through the reasons
for nominating this year’s winner can be summarised
in one sentence: “What will happen when the next
abuse, corruption, crime or misconduct needs
exposing, will other media be too afraid to publish
the truth?” This is not a question that should ever
be asked in any civilised country.
As a journalist, I am ashamed of the silence that has
prevailed whilst this persecution of a courageous
truth teller is taking place.
For the past months I have continually seen UK people
waving placards with the word “Democracy”.
If Democracy does not champion free speech and a free
press, then it is a reprehensible imitation. It is
the duty of every genuine journalist to stand up and
expose the immoral punishment of Julian Assange.
We are giving this year’s award to a man who has the
courage to publish the truth and has sacrificed so

today is Christmas Day and I am reminded of a story of christ. a story in the bible in which Pontus Pilate releases one of two Jewish prisoners in order to appease and control the Jews (the public in the country at the time) - but executes the other. the one chosen to be released is Barabbas a violent revolutionary calling for violence, and the one they execute is of course christ, who preaches justice, truth and social reform but is not a violent criminal.
