    Despite it's light weight, the difficulties the Luchs faced in muddy conditions are pretty obvious. That aside, it was the best light tank in it's weight division, capable of defeating any Allied light tank until the M-24 Chafee. I'd love to see the Luchs running at top-speed some time.

    This would NOT have been a tank used in major pitched battles, where there were lots of enemy tanks on the battlefield(at least not after 1930 or 1940), because it's little cannon and weak armor would render it almost useless. It would be effective when used in similar fashion to the American M3 and M5 Stuart light tanks, for reconnaissance. The engine sounds really good in this tank. Either the steering mechanisms are worn out, or the driver is just inexperienced. There's no reason why a small, short wheelbase tank like this couldn't move around and corner with less stiffness and lack of agility.

    • @patrickmcleod111
      @patrickmcleod111 Před 5 lety +1

      @@c3pfett Unless the early ww2 battles of Poland and France took place in 1943 and 44, the Luchs did NOT take part in them. The earlier, standard versions of the Panzer II were used in Poland and France, but the Luchs didn't come out til 1943 & 44. It was a later development designed as a reconnaissance tank, with overlapping/interleaved road wheels. The standard Panzer II models had VERY different suspensions. They were designed primarily as training tanks.
      The only person in Germany who planned on going to war in 1939, was Hitler! The German military hierarchy had originally been under the impression that war wouldn't happen til the mid 40s. The German navy leadership were still rebuilding when the war on Poland began, and they were originally promised that they had til like 1947 before the war would begin! But Hitler wanted to defeat the Russians before they had time to rebuild their military and it's leadership, who had been wiped out in Stalin's purge.
      If not for the outdated condition of Poland's military equipment, and the incompetence and outdated strategy of the French military, the Germans would've probably lost the war by 1941!
      The main German tanks(Panzer III and IV) were in seriously short supply in 1939 & 40, so they were forced to rely on a lot of Panzer I and II light tanks, that should've been easy to destroy by a competent military. Neither of those tanks could penetrate the armor of the primary, early war French and British tanks. But it didn't end up being a problem due to tactical stupidity on the part of the French. The more famous German tanks, like the Panther, Tiger I, Tiger II and even the anti-tank versions of the Stug III didn't come out til after the Poles, French had been defeated, and the war in Russia & Africa were halfway over.

    • @neurofiedyamato8763
      @neurofiedyamato8763 Před 5 lety +2

      Its not a bad idea at all. If you are worrying about fires, its very unlikely. Gas needs sufficient air to burn. Search up upper and lower flammability limit.
      If the Jerry can is full, there isn't enough oxygen for it to burn. It'll just leak. A almost used up can also have too little fuel to really burn for a long time if at all.
      And to ignite it you need a incendiary bullet anyways. Most small arms are ball munitions, which is solid shot.
      Machine guns may ignite it with incendiary but as I said, you would need the can to have somewhere between too little and too much fuel inside it.

    Лёгкий танк Pz.Sp.Wg.II, он же Pz.Kpfw.II Ausf.L «Luchs» разрабатывался фирмами «Даймлер-Бенц» и MAN как разведывательная машина, призванная заменить в частях панцерваффе более ранние модели танков Pz.Kpfw.I и Pz.Kpfw.II. Серийное производство «Рыси» было развёрнуто во второй половине 1943 года, однако уже в начале следующего 1944 года было свёрнуто в пользу более приоритетной «Пантеры». Всего по разным данным было выпущено от 100 до 142 единиц, из которых до нашего времени дожили два танка, экспонирующихся в коллекциях бронетанковых музеев во французском Сомюре и британском Бовингтоне.
