I'm not a young player but I can't seem to stop on both feet. I can stop both ways but my outside edge is hitting the ice instead of sliding. What am I doing wrong ?

Hello msanna41, sorry for the long response, I'll also add a video for this. Here are a couple of things to try next time you are on the ice. Stand in a good hockey player position (Shoulders over knees, knees bent and knees over toes), stand in a neutral position on your skate blades, weight on the ball of your feet and try moving your hips side to side and if you are positioned correctly over the middle of your blades your skates should turn side to side on the ice. Now try pushing with one skate to the side (moving your body laterally) and letting non pushing skate slide on the ice, try this with 2-3 pushes on both sides. The skate that is sliding on the ice is mimicking a stop with 1 foot. When you feel comfortable skate forward very slowly and let both skates glide (blades in a neutral position on the ice, over both inside and outside edge). In the direction you want to stop slowly turn your head, then your shoulders then quickly turn your feet together to perform your side stop. Start this very slowly to get the feel then progressing by adding a little bit of speed. Ideally you want both skate blades to slide on the ice to perform your stop, as you add speed then you'll begin to dig your edges in a little more in order to stop quickly. It is very important to stay in a neutral position over your skate blades when you turn them then add light pressure on your blades to dig the stop into the ice (if stopping to your left side, should eventually dig your inside edge of right skate and outside edge of left skate into the ice).
