    I had to print out the entire appendix for this game because all the icons and numbers on the cards are not immediately obvious what they meant, even with the help of the icon guide in the manual. Quite a lot of the game was taken up by me and my friends trying to decode the icons on most of the cards.

      Ya, sadly that is the down side of all the iconography, it can be difficult to interpret, but it is space saving to making everything smaller.

    Very useful video, I've now played about 4 games of this, and while im still enjoying the game, the rule book is easily one of the worst I've ever read/used.
    So many things wrong with the rulebook:
    1. Needing to use an appendix, that's not included with the game box, to understand the basic rules/iconography is terrible.
    2. Even with the appendix you need to look up the FAQ and Board Game Geek comments from the creator to still clarify some rules.
    3. The rules that are there are written in such a way you constantly need to jump back and forth to find important information that should be next to each other.
    4. This one is insane: there are MULTIPLE incorrect text descriptions in the appendix! E.g. the Pulley room and Library room dont have skill checks, but the appendix card mentions skill checks. The Giant's Strength text is what the text for Elemental Charge should be, the Elemental Charge text is talking about a card not in the base game i think, the set of the Lion equipment talks about adding to melee attack dice rolls when clearly the iconography is saying you should heal X health when performing a melee attack etc. etc. . There are so many errors its crazy, they obviously didnt proof read it properly.
    So as such, a video like this is SO useful for this game! Thanks so much! I've mostly tried to dig around for some of this info before finding this video, but I either had to house rule it or guess in some cases. Thanks again :)

    You're a very pro gamer for this game, thanks for sharing!. I really love this game but the rule book is a mess, I have investigated through FAQ and Dized app just like you, because I have played always something wrong. Wow I was playing badly the panda and the bard!!!
    The last rule I understood wrongly is that when you rest after being knocked out, in that case you cannot take free actions!. But if you rest with at least one point of life, you can!. In Spanish the rules are even worst because of an error, you cannot move eather, so you can be stucked fighting against the final boss with that!! Hopefully I got the English rules!!!
    But anyway this game is a 9 for me!!!
    Thanks for your video

    • @BoardGameOfficer
      @BoardGameOfficer  Před rokem

      Ya the rule that you can't move when you rest after being knocked out, actually used to be the rule, but then they changed it because it was way to difficult if you were ever knocked out. So that is probably where that mistake came from in the Spanish's translation.
      I thought about doing a 'how to play' video but that dized app is super good already!

    For your "successful spell" rule, does "cast a spell" mean "successfully cast a spell"? Specifically for the Phoenix legendary set it says whenever you cast a spell add focus depending on how many items of the set you have. Do i get that focus:
    A. When i attempt to cast the spell (regardless of success or failure)
    B. When I pass the intellect check (regardless of whether i then pay the focus for the spell; e.g. for Fireball if i pass the 7 intellect required, but dont pay the 6 focus).
    C. When i cast a successful spell i.e. i pass the intellect check AND pay the focus for the spell.
    ?

    • @BoardGameOfficer
      @BoardGameOfficer  Před 2 měsíci +1

      So the successful spell rule is just if there is a 'green check mark' on the ability. So as for the item set, it is as soon as you attempt to cast the spell that you gain the extra focus. So option A. So you CAN use that focus to change to dice to make it successfull. I hope that makes sense.

  • @moocowp4970
    @moocowp4970 Před 2 měsíci +1

    One thing on your video i sort of disagree with (and i know that the Dized app says the same as what you says, but i disagree with it too) is about enemies stopping your movement when they enter your room. I agree with what you said in terms of if you use the warhorn to bring an enemy into your room, or past you, it doesnt "end your movement", i.e. you can theoretically move later on this turn (whereas if you walk into an enemy my movement has ended for the turn, even if i then use the warhorn i can no longer move this turn). BUT based on the rulebook i think that you CANNOT move past an enemy if theyre in your room (i.e. you cannot leave the room), even though your movement hasnt ended. The rulebook says "When moving into a room with an enemy, you cannot move any farther this turn. Heroes cannot 'pass through' enemies unless they have the Stealth ability.", so the first sentence is what we covered above in terms of the warhorn, but the second sentence is more or less saying that even if your movement hasnt ended, you cant move past that enemy to leave the room anyway. The Dized faq seems to also say you can leave the room, but again, i feel like this is a mistake. Based on the rulebook, I think you first need to use some ability like the warhorn to move the enemies off your square, and then you can use your movement . I guess it depends on the definition of 'pass through', but in my mind if an enemy is on your space then you are having to 'pass through' them to leave that space, which the game says you cannot do; but i guess if you dont consider leaving a space with an enemy to be passing through that enemy then what you/dized said is correct.

    • @BoardGameOfficer
      @BoardGameOfficer  Před 2 měsíci +1

      Yes, i understand that the rulebook does make it sound like that with that wording. The official TED FAQ also states that same thing as the Dized app does and so that is where I got that from. Sadly, that comes to what we were talking about in the other comment, that you have to look at 5 different places to make sure that you have all of the rules right haha

      @@BoardGameOfficeroh okay, if the official faq says it too then i guess I'll concede I'm wrong. But it does seem odd to me flavour wise that I can escape from enemies when they're next to me fighting me, but not when I willingly and intentionally move towards and engage them haha.
      I guess I'll have to play a few more games with each way of playing it to see if my way limits options too much or if the other way is too easy, and then decide from there if I should use my rule or not. Thanks for the help clarifying and for tracking everything down for us! :)

    So if this is an annoying question, but...
    Are you sure about when you gain the Focus when casting a spell?
    The reason I ask is this: If you Fail the roll, you definitely do not gain the Focus from the dice -- it has to be Successful. Because of this, I would have thought the spell would need to be successful FIRST (and so the Focus used up) and THEN, since Successful, the 'new' Focus gained.

      @BoardGameOfficer  Před 11 měsíci

      Yes, That is a misconception. It can be interpreted that way. However it has been confirmed that when it says "and can be used to perform spell effects" What they were trying to clarify is that if you did "gain" that focus, that you can THEN pay for the spell with the 'gained' focus.
      Another way to think about it. It does say that the focus CANNOT be gained AFTER, and
      There is no real difference between gaining the focus AFTER and USING the focus from the dice.

    IF a hero falls unconscious after losing all health points and with 5 remaining focus (out of a max of 8), when they rest, their health goes from zero to 3 and their focus goes from 5 to 8, yes? I had a friend who said if a hero falls unconscious BOTH health and focus drop to zero. Which is correct? GREAT video!

    • @BoardGameOfficer
      @BoardGameOfficer  Před rokem

      So when a hero falls unconscious, it is only the health that is at zero, the focus will always stay where it is at. So when you rested it would go back up to 8.
      I can see where your friend is coming from though, because it does seem that when you get knocked unconscious that you would loose both. But on page 13 of the rulebook, it just states that you put the health tracker to zero and lay the miniature on its side. It doesn't say anything about losing you focus. So that is why I say that the focus stays where it is at when unconscious.

    • @ObsidianKnight90
      @ObsidianKnight90 Před rokem

      @@BoardGameOfficer I would agree. I would think of it like this scenario in Magic: the Gathering: Your opponent has two 3/3 creatures, one of which says "When this dies, give another creature you control +2/+2 until end of turn." You cast Sweltering Suns, which deals 3 damage to each creature. This causes both creatures to die at the same time, so the +2/+2 effect has no targets and thus doesn't resolve. It's not like the first 3/3 dies, gives the other one +2/+2, and that saves the other creature - all damage resolves simultaneously when applied by a single source.

    You need to read the card appendix. The free actions inspire and intoxication can be used to increase the dice for skill checks so they could be used on a trap when first encountering the trap.

    • @BoardGameOfficer
      @BoardGameOfficer  Před 9 měsíci

      I understand where you are coming from, but the appendix doesn’t state that those abilities are an exception to the rule. Since they are a ‘free action’ and on page 2 of the FAQ, it states no free actions can be spent before checking for the trap.

      @@BoardGameOfficer I didn't know about the FAQ, thanks for that. I was going from the card appendix, the FAQ though states on page two that you can use a free action for a skill check:
      Can I roll for a Skill Check and then use any Free Action before resolving the
      SkillCheck?
      A: No, with one exception.You can use the Free Action to adjust your dice during a Skill Check.

      @@nicodemusdarkspire6588 ya this rule is really ambiguous, because that one is just talking about the free action that everyone has to adjust their dice, but not a free action to ‘add’ dice.
      I’ll have to find where it says it but I remember somewhere seeing that you cannot use those free actions to add dice After you have rolled for the skill, so they are not the same the free action that everyone has… so confusing!
      I’ll see if I can’t find where I read that.

      May I ask one more? I'm reading the rules and it says that if the enemy is still alive he counter attack. I understand that goblins have one health so, if you fail they counter attack but never when you succeed. Instead, minions and bosses have plenty of health. Does this mean that every time after a successful attack ( and since it is not the final blow ) they counter attack?
