Recorded in Sundbyberg church, summer 2024.
Here is the first video of six that we are uploading from our latest recording session. The song is from our childhood and was always sung at the ceremony before all the students went on summer break. Today it brings back those good memories of having an ocean of summertime ahead of you. More good stuff to come. Hope you are all having a sweet summer so far.
    Lyrics:
The earth adorned in verdant robe
    sends praises upward surging,
while soft winds breathe on fragrant flowers
    from winter now emerging.
The sunshine bright gives warmth and light
    to budding blossoms tender,
    proclaiming summer splendour.
From out the wood, the birds now sing
and each its song now raises,
to join with all the universe
    in voicing thankful praises.
With hope and joy their songs employ
    a rapturous exultation
    in praise of God’s creation.
O God, amid these joys of life,
    creation's glory beaming,
grant us the grace to keep your word
    and live in love redeeming.
All flesh is grass, the flowers fade,
    and time is fleeting ever;
    God’s word remains forever.

It is SOOOO nice to hear LIVE, in-tune, and ringing chords with amazing vowel uniformity. I do get tired of over-produced a cappella vocals these days. It is its own sound now, but it makes my ears and soul long for real, unperfected vocals. This is exemplary and so breathtakingly gorgeous.

Yes, if a church or other building has a great acoustic, then let the singing do the engineering for you! I mean, I grew up in a church choral background, and I get that small ensembles, such as a barbershop quartet can be much more exposed to tonal and tuning variability…but still the amount of engineering and pitch correction that goes into some recordings…they all end up sounding the same!
This was a simple arrangement, beautifully sung…glorious!

What a lovely combination of voices. It would be a 'world beater' if it combined with Voces8, as Ringmasters has done in the past. Thank you.

Brilliant recording and fantastic production overall. The singing is of course perfect. 😅 Can I ask what microphones and preamps you were using and how did you place them?

Hi, I did the recording the day before the video shoot. The ensemble was arranged in a circle to be able to hear each other well. Jörgen Thuresson custom FET large diaphragm mics modeled after U47, U67 and M49 mics, and Pearl CC22 mics (sopranos) were used as close mics. Two Microtech Gefell M296 mics were used as room mics in a wide array and a X/Y Thuresson mic was used as an ensemble mic high above the ensemble. It's mixed in very quietly. All mics except the room mics went throuh two RME Octamic XTC at 48 KHz. The room mics used RME Fireface UFX+ preamps. Liquidsonics Seventh Heaven (Bricasti M7 style) reverb. Other than some automation, some plugins from PSP Audioware were used (Mastercomp, MasterQ, Xenon and NobleQ) and a Universal Audio Fairchild 670 plugin.

@@route909 Thanks for replying! 😊 That's super interesting! I was wondering how it could sound like it was recorded with those large diaphragm close-up mics, where you can hear each singer’s voice so clearly, yet there are no mics in sight. I figured you must have used some magical directional mics. That makes sense now! And RME? Oh, that explains it all. 😆 The seventh heaven sounds incredibly natural too. You really nailed it with the video-it totally looks like it’s recorded live with the audio. This video is definitely going into my reference playlist! 🎶👌

One more question: Did you have the recording playing back at the church to help the singers with lip-syncing? Thanks!

@@TapioKuosma-bp6ng Yes, we recorded the sound the first day, then quickly edited and filmed on the second day. The video was recorded in a couple of passes, hence the need for playback.

I am impressed by the beauty of your sound. Such a lightness in the treble, it's a real joy to listen to!
Maybe you should make sure that the men don't become too dominant in the sound. For my taste, they are a little too present.
