  • This mint 2010 Chevy Colorado is fussing about the ABS and TRACTION Control system.
The code set is a C0252-"Active Brake Control Sensors Uncorrelated"...
    Huh?
After digging through the service info and performing some checks, it becomes clear that some parts will be required to fix this truck.
Bonus Cluster Repair footage included :)

He admitted that the reason it deployed was because I had manually grounded the module (for testing purposes), usually as soon as you remove the module from the bracket, it disables itself since it gets grounded for the chassis, the engineers didn't think of Danner using a jumper lol

Indeed. The TS100 is my primary soldering iron. It runs great on 18V Li-ion batteries. But also on 19V laptop power supplies.
I flashed alternate firmware into mine. It now has a battery indicator and a low-battery shut-off. You can set in the settings how many Li-ion cells your battery has in series. That would probably be 5, for your DeWalt battery.
it would even run on a car battery, if need be.
I don't get that people would complain about that iron. It's incredibly versatile and it can easily compete with low-mid-range soldering stations.

In a related vein, on my 2007 Trailblazer the steering wheel position sensor was a known issue. If I parked with the wheels a bit askew the Service Stabilitrac light would light up on startup and the system would be disabled. Shut the truck off, straighten the wheels, start it up again and the light would go off and Stabilitrac would work normally. I got used to always parking with the front wheels very straight.

That is the most thin looking soldering iron I have ever seen. It looks so comfortable to use as well as the ability to get in tighter spaces. Also the need for a new ebcm in such a new looking truck (2010) seems like a real quality control problem.

Great video, great technique in verifying the need for a new module. Thanks for showing the process of downloading and using the reprogramming software. I appreciate the bonus footage and the suggestion about the ease of using the battery powered soldering iron (which I believe replaced your old butane-powered one) to make these repairs to a circuit board - there are a lot of cold, cracked solder joints out there, which can be easily reflowed to give new life to tired cluster control panels and radio/cd power supplies, among other things.

Like your soldering iron - would have loved to have that in 1965 when I started in electronics. I still suggest adding some more flux when you re-solder those pads or anything else. The standard 60/40 rosin core solder does not have enough flux in it to get a really good flow going. I know it looks good - shiny and all - but, it is the connection between the solder and the pad that you can't see not the wire and the solder.

From the moment I saw that steering angle sensor come alive on the new module, I was questioning if you ever actually needed to replace the EBCM in this vehicle. Did you ever check the steering angle sensor while you were driving the car on the old module? If it was dead while you were driving, then the old module was definitely bad. However, if it was alive and/or you didn't check it, we would never know whether the old module was faulty, or just needed reprogrammed.
Remember, the service information said that the EEPROM in the EBCM saves checksum data based on the yaw/accel sensor inputs, so even if the lateral acceleration sensor was the only problem in this vehicle, you would have needed to reprogram the old module to delete corrupt checksum data from the EEPROM. I definitely would have attempted to reprogram the old module before replacing it.

I have a feeling something changed in the modules software since it would not even let you clear the error message.

  • @phillipsvanderwesthuizen800

Yaw rate is the rate of change in yaw angle not the angle. If you keep it still it should be close to zero BUT a small offset is caused by the rotation of the earth. If it is not horizontal it gets crosstalk from pith or roll. Acceleration should be zero if the car is stationary independent of the orientation. (edit: in the lateral direction, if you turn the accelerometer axis in the vertical direction it should read + or - 9.81 m/s2, [32 ft/s2] the earth gravitation)

Found this video looking for another ABS issue. It's a customers car, an 2006 Hummer H3, so a similar setup as this one. I have an ABS and Trac control light turned on in the cluster. However there is no check engine light turned on, and there are no trouble codes in the PCM or ABS/EBCM, so I'm a bit stumped on this one. Looking at the extremely slow live data for the ABS module, it seems that the right rear sensor is not reporting. I have replaced the sensor, and checked wire integrity between the sensor and the ABS module, and I am reading a small amount of bias voltage at the sensor end. Not sure if I should call the ABS module on this one, not sure what else it could be. I find it odd that there is no trouble codes in the ABS module, not even pending or otherwise.

I work on those ABS modules. Total pain in the ass and commonly can't be repaired!
Honestly makes me think very poorly of Bosch and the like

My longitudinal accelerometer sensor signal stays pegged...is it part of the YAW/lateral sensor under the seat?? I cant find any info on the longitudinal sensor.

I have a 2012 chevy colorado 2.9. Runs great till it warms up and I stop. Then it just dies no clunking out like it's stalling or nothing just dies. Fires right back up let it set for a minute then it dies again. Can fire it back up floor it all is good till I let off the gas and let it idle and it dies. Any ideas. They say fuel purge canister valve and an ac delco oem filter can be causes on the 355 nation site or a map sensor. Starting with oil and fuel purge valve. Just paid 3700 to get timing done as well

I have a question concerning the ABS/Traction control on a 2013 Nissan Sentra where there is no DTCs and yet the traction/ABS and sometimes Brake warning lights come on, and most times it happens before the car is even moved. Have you ever seen this type of issue Ivan? Just curious as I would think that anything that causes the lights to come on must start with some sort of major fault and a resulting DTC.

Does your Thinkcar Thinktool Pros Scanner work with GM OBD 1 Trucks? I was reading up on it on Amazon and it does show an OBD 1 connector. I looking for one to work on GM .65L diesel engines. Thank you

I'm confused!! You had the acceleration sensor in your hand and tilting it changed the g"s that it was reading? Tilt has little to do with accelerating unless the weight inside is not balanced by the opposing restraints? I don't get it. Not moving should yield "0" not -.5 or anything else. Making it change value should be determined by starts and stops (shaking). And yes. That guy must be responsible for Air Bag deployment (with other sensors?)

Since both ecbm showed 0 steering wheel angle, I wonder if reprogramming the original would have fixed the problem... NPR.

Hello & thanks for such great videos. I have a situation where my 2005 Colorado goes into "Reduced Power" and then shows the message "Traction Fault". Would you happen to know anything about this? I have gone to soo many places & dealers & they can't figure it out because they can't replicate the situation because it only happens randomly. So when it happens, I get stranded for a few minutes, I shut it off, wait a few minutes and then I'm able to get going again. Now the weirdest is that EVEY TIME this happens, my power locks stop working, so I have to disconnect the battery for a few minutes and everything works back to normal again.... any advise? It would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!!

I'm not much of a fan of GM anymore. The fact they can't maintain their websites to work with common browsers is pretty lame. Let alone $40 to get the data to program the expensive part you just bought from them.

    • @mph5896
      @mph5896 Před 3 lety

$40 is a drop in the bucket. A little annoying to have to update my programming computer every time I need to program a GM though (not very often). Process is super simple once updated though.

But it's cheaper than taking it to the dealer, who would have also recommended the replacement of all the other modules, as well as the steering wheel, steering column, steering box, tie rods, idler arm, steering knuckles, and the entire engine and transmission assembly, just to be on the safe side.
