Have you heard anything about running Linux on mac silicon? I have read conflicting things overall. I like the hardware, particularly the passive cooling, but would want to avoid MacOS.

I've seen videos/posts of it being done but it's a pain in the butt... virtualization works fine though

Buy the MacBook Air M1 now if you no longer have a functional laptop. Do not buy the MacBook Air M1 if you do have a laptop that is still working fine.
