- Never seen before behind the scenes footage of Bowie rehearsing in NYC. We were there. Funny story is as we were wrapping up, Rich, who had come up with us, got to spend 20 minutes chatting with Bowie and his entourage . A cherished memory made all the more special after Bowie's passing.
The most perfect side profile in the history of anyone ever being photographed.

Yep! From 1976 to this very tour he was a musical director, which basically means he was running the reharsals
Both Bowie and Alomar were lucky to have met each other back in 1974.
He was the music director for that tour.
I wish I had his hair ... and his talent.
This is how a rehearsal is supposed to be run. Fun to watch and Bowie sounds in great voice as always. Everyone having serious fun!

Bowie was always sorrounded by magnificent musicians... specially on first guitar
And dancers. He was engaged to Elizabeth Hurley. But broke it off. Must say she's a great dancer.

Carlos is no Peter Frampton but he made some helluva musical contributions to Bowie’s records. Especially (Carlos!!) on rhythm guitar. There was no Hall without the Oates.

Not only Bowie and Prince passed . That TERRIBLE YEAR , all MUSIC lost a bunch of GREAT MUSICIANS like Keith Emerson, Isao Tomita, Greg Lake , Glen Frey. Maurice White , Leon Russel, Billy Paul, George Michael and George Martin among others
Bowie is an Alien Star Comet streaking the Galaxies and Milky Way and his music is heard all over the Universe.

It was an awful Tour !. Overblown & indulgent, supporting an awful album.
Bowie's low point !
These songs are so much more convincing than the overblown production of the actual live show. Bowie was at his best just fronting a band, not all the extra bs.
Got to see this Glass Spider Tour Concert in Anaheim, CA in 1987. To say that I feel lucky to have seen his magnificent showmanship is quite the understatement. Excellent experience!

This is actually an astonishing video. Thanks a ton for the post. These versions sound amazing and I bet if the Never Let Me Down album had sounded more like this the album would be much more appreciated.
This version of Shining Star is particularly meaningful because Bowie never wound up playing it live on the Glass Spider tour. Very rare find! Unfortunately the version here has a few stops and starts but it also gives a glimpse of what this song could have been. I've always felt it should have been a hit.
the fact that Bowie performed most of NLMD live /probably the most since Diamond Dogs tour ! Always thought album was OK back in the day !
When I saw him in '87 he never did Shining Star.

That was so interesting. There must be tonnes of unreleased rehearsal material knocking around. Plus studio stuff. I've heard there is a vault with lots of stuff in. Bowie told an up and coming musician to never throw anything away as you never know when you will need it again. He had stuff he wrote and never released at the time only to revisit years later and rearrange it.
Think he gave Iggy Pop that advice. It came in handy.

Thanks for uploading this footage. This is a gem! Bowie and Peter Frampton together! Frampton on guitar, a great talent in his own right! I especially like that he sang Blue Jean which is one of my favorite Bowie songs. Now I'm sorry I missed this tour. Also, Bowie looks in top form here with the perfectly styled hair and steel toed shoes smiling and having fun. What a smooth voice he had! He will be missed.

This was my only Bowie gig and it had to be this tour... I saw the Sunderland Roker Park show with Big Country in support and it was overblown and cheesy. Frampton was too rockist for this pop & funk fan.
Time willcrawl is a hell of a tune..a rehearsal better than most would produce in a career. Rip

Sometimes one forgets this one fabulous man made all these different albums in such diverse eras. BUT replace that white electric with a blue acoustic, you still see flashes of Ziggy

Just watching him in his elements and enjoying himself, you can't help feeling you'd enjoy hanging out with this very normal dude, oops, I mean Duke.
Hanging with him that afternoon and being in that room...unforgettable...amazing day and amazing performer. So tragic he was taken too early

Sorry, but IMO that album is neglected for a reason. It's without doubt the worst thing Bowie ever did. The album is full of completely forgettable, mediocre rubbish and the live show was little better.
+thetragicyouth Well, there's a couple of songs I like on the album, & I think his vocal performance is generous concidering the weak material. It's mediocre for Bowie, yes. Maybe even Tony Visconti couldn't have elevated it.
+Mick Lans i think its okay.... 80s style production killed it.... its good pop tho, might not be everyones bag but i like slick 80s pop/soul so...

Great rehearsal footage. This is probably my favourite version of "Time Will Crawl", which is one of my favourite Bowie songs.

I was at the Glass Spider Tour, Fijenoord Stadium - The Netherlands in 1987. The whole show was amazing and Bowie´s voice unreal and mesmerising. Enjoyed Peter Frampton on guitar.

Glass Spider Tour includes the most Bowie's pop songs.
It must have been a great pleasure to work with him, given his amazing personality.
And this was the one of the albums and tours he regretted. Early eighties the money he made decades before was mostly gone so he had to go commercial and do mega tours.
