- Heather McManamy was in her early thirties when she was diagnosed with terminal cancer. She died in December 2015, aged 36, and as the end grew closer she wrote the following letter, to be shared with friends and family after her death.
Jodie Whittaker joined us to read it at Letters Live at the Royal Albert Hall in November 2023. - Zábava
Why am I crying over someone I have never met? And yet I deeply feel I know exactly them
Because in a way we’ve gotten to know her and she was special. I know this will say that I edited it, but I understand. I don’t have the use of my hand so I use voice to text and it doesn’t always write things or punctuate things as I would like and I wanted to add something in that one letter one feels that one has missed out on knowing a person who sounds absolutely fantastic. Maybe that’s why you’re crying for the loss person never get to meet.
Because you're human.❤
Same here!❤
What an amazing letter writer and what an appropriate person to read it. I'm so glad to be able to see this! Thank you for posting! ❤
Sending love to the author, Brianna and Jeff. And Jodie for reading ❤❤❤❤
Took a work break to listen to this. Longer break than expected as I pause to stop crying.
You and me both.
Another letter that brought me to tears. Sometimes it's from laughing, othertimes it's bitter-sweet. Loved Jodie's reading of this amazing letter and the amazing person it revealed.
We don’t cry because a loved one lost their life, we cry because we lost a loved one.
Beautifully put and beautifully read
Thank you for a timely reminder as to what is truly important. What a wonderful letter and a wonderful reading!
Brilliantly delivered by Jodi
Beautifully read and what a wonderful letter as a reminder of the joys and beauty of life even at what I'm sure was a difficult time for her loved ones to read it, what a lovely parting gift she left to uplift them and as a reminder of all the things that make a life well lived.
Brought a tear to my eyes
Only one?
This letter reminds me of the fictional time that I think it was the enterprise Star Trek TNG, but don’t quote me. I was talking to a woman who in essence technically would already be dead. By the time they got there thinking they could save her. I might be wrong and it might be deep space nine I don’t know hoping to save her way. She saves them. She’s been dead by her remains in a way. This letter has made us get to know someone that we have never met and we never meet and wish we had met, someone so special that even though she’s gone, she has left an impression on those who have heard her letter how many people get that kind of immortal in a moment of their death. It’s the best kind of immortality when you think about it because as long as you’re remembered, and by the most people remembered, you’re never dead some part of you lives on with them.
It was Start Trek Voyager xxx
What a wonderful view of life and death. We will all die, it's not to be feared as our society has made us believe. Yes it is sad and sometimes way too early but it is what awaits us. To come to terms with it, as this person has done is a peace some will never seek and that only compounds the pain and grief.
Whelp. Tears are flowing and I am laughing. What an astonishing human.
What a emotional letter, I’m crying literally
Beautifully written, beautifully read. Her emotion reading itnis clear. To the family of the author...you are marvellous.
Wow, what an amazing letter and we’ll lived life.
I just cannot do life, I don’t understand why , I’ve been depressed since I was a toddler and it won’t stop.. I’m all alone now. My parents and grandparents died early and I’m divorced and totally isolated by a several crippling chronic diseases.
I know people who have it worse than me ,can do life and be happy .
I just don’t understand how😢
Hey Jeff, buddy, you got this. 👍✌️
Jody.
😢
I'm not crying, you're crying
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
This is the most poignant letter and beautifully read I will remember the words and steal them for my own Eulogy if that’s allowed.
💚
It’s a shame I can only like it once
This shows the best and worst of CZcams. The best being the video and most of the comments. The worst being people who judge this to be a great place to make comments about Joe Biden and Dr Who.
NIMH Epigenetic treatment for Cancer will be Oxytocin and MDMA...
[I am sorry to be always the one who ruin the Party...
But literally...
Not watching Reality for what it is while you're Living is like not Watching the Street while you're driving..
You should be taking responsibility.]
When I want to cry, I think about Joe Biden being President.
Inappropriate. Can you keep your comments about American politics out of this? I've been receiving treatment for cancer for over two years now and listening to this reached me deeply. Your silly, utterly out of place, comment was not welcome.
I have had a heart attack and cancer. Grow up.
Worst Doctor until the latest one
It's a video of her reading a letter from a terminally ill cancer patient. It has nothing to do with Doctor Who. This comment is disrespectful, insensitive, and wholly inappropriate. It is absolutely mind-boggling that you thought it would be okay to say this here.
@@jayharland8295 ..not as mind boggling as those last few seasons.
@@dazzaspc Wow. Aren't you the brave little edgelord?!
No matter that this is the record of an incredibly brave woman who died from cancer at age 36.
You carry on bleating about Doctor Who like that's what is important.
@@Epicurus341 we can only hope she passed without have to bear the pain of seeing the last few seasons.
I mean the timeless children narrative?
Talk about cancerous.
@@dazzaspc Your misogyny is without limit. You intelligence is very, very limited.
If you've made somebody smile today,
today is a good day.
