FMS Roc Hobby 1/18 Unimog - I'm Mog Rich now

- I take a quick look at the new FMS Roc Hobby Mogrich and also give it my own flavor of weathering. It's an 18th scale Unimog-style RC that is heavy on good looks and detail, and just okay on performance. Want one of your own?

This is such a great time for people to come into the RC world. These 1/18 seem to be a great transition for the diecast collectors looking for a little more. At the same time, they seem perfect for the folks wanting or needing to scale down their collection but still want something for a quick run between laundry cycles.
That little bit of weathering really makes a big difference. FMS makes some neat little rigs, that I might get if I ever finish all the other projects first lol.
Another great video Matt, and I'll have to say this little truck looks great, the real wood is just the thing it needed
I'm a modeler from my childhood. Lots of 1/25th scale plastic. But also was into rc 15+ Years ago. Just as lipo hit the market. Racing Losi xxxt in my buddy's back yard track. Now I am back in baby! With a trx4 I want to replicate my 1973 jeep pickup truck. Working on printing a 1972 Gladiator body from cults3d. Slowly figuring it out. Kinda spendy so I'm also learning 3d printing at our local technology help center. Helps that I've not been working since the pandemic hit. Helps my free time but seems like you either have time or money, but not both simultaneously! Thanks for the info. Much appreciated!
You mentioned to throw ideas towards you I think I saw a kamaz Dakar style race truck !!
Great looking model RC, the weathering really helps the look of this truck. I’m definitely a RC’er who like to model, I can paint but I always question myself too much, so more videos about painting and weathering/distressing is always welcomed. Thanks for the video Matt!!!
Thanks for watching!
Looks great! I’m excited to do some work on mine! One of the best things I’ve found with this hobby is the convergence of a bunch of hobbies from electronics and engineering to painting/ photography and storytelling..thanks for sharing your work!
Me too! Thanks for watching!
The “Expose your load!” Excitement got me🤣great looking little mog Matt!
RCer that happens to model 😎 here!
I think these are cool little trucks.
I'd buy one for sure.
Nice worm man.
I really like your style of weathering, subdued which to me makes it much more realistic than just slathering on rust and dirt.
Thank you!
Excellent as always!
Looks good. I’m a model builder that does some RC’s. Of course I buy kits, not rtr’s. They’re More fun.
That is neat a little Mog not really/sort of truck. The weathering looks great.
Great job on the paint job as always. I love the FMS models but I'm hoping they release something that performs as well as it looks. See you next time!
hey Josh did pretty good on his paint video eh. was very pleasantly surprised
love the way it sways, looks awesome,,what a great little mog👍👍😀👌
No portals. Sad. But I still want one. Thanks for the video Matt.
A little bit of both lol and nice call out 🤣. The new mike myers show is gold. I highly recommend it.
Love your weathering on this truck. I will definitely check out your weathering videos.
I think they did a pretty good job with this truck, what I'm really waiting for is for them to start incorporating opening doors on all of their models
Good question, I think I’m a RCer who loves modeling, or maybe a modeler who RCs. So yes.
Fms build off also include Hemi strom
Great videos always watching
Thank you for watching!
I think those wheels and tires look great. I bet they look better on an scx24 mud truck hehehe. Y'all have a badass day 🤘
Thanks for watching!
To answer your question Matt I’m hobbitextrous meaning I can do it all when it comes to tiny trucks ! Great video as always looking forward to the next one !
hobbitextrous- Love it!
I had to do it! I have all the other ones. Makes an even dozen! LOL. Enjoyed the review. And well done on the Flare!
Thanks for watching!
Matt have you see the Cheyenne? Ordered one this morning.
Weathering on it came out great! If I hadn't seen other videos of this already, I would have thought it came like that from factory
Thank you!
I would love to get one of them and weather it and remove those non-working lights from the roof! That is more annoying than turn signals you can't disable to have lights as a centerpiece of a truck that don't do anything! Still a cool truck, just needs a few finishing touches!
It looks great, def gonna pick it up during a flash sale. I have the k10 and it’s surprisingly capable
Nice mini unimog, seems pretty scale for its size. Nice job weathering
Thanks 👍
I’m going have pick up one those FMS! Great looking unimaginative bud! 🤩🤘🏻👍💯
Thanks for watching!
@@scalebuildersguild Matt be honest I try catch every video you put out I am a big fan so thank you sir for all u do for rc! Also try catch Harley love him as well you guys just do great things I enjoy every min !! 💯👍🤘🏻🤩
Hello from southeast alaska.
"Expose your load" hahahah 😆
I do a bit of hand modeling on the side.
Matt, your videos are well shot and always look so good. Have you ever done a tutorial on what equipment you use, how to configure it and how you go about filming and driving at the same time. I would like to get better at this. Mine usually end up looking pretty cheesy.
I did do a video on my equipment and I've done live videos about editing, so check them out!
@@scalebuildersguild Thanks, Matt. I will go through your history to see if I find them.
I'm an RC'er thats loves modeling.
It honestly just looks like it is painted US Forest Service Green.
Although from what I've seen, such green colors are fairly common on Unimogs.
I strive for performance, but try to push the modeler side as far as I can without hindering performance
My boi

😂
I am Rc'er that enjoys modeling... LMAO Just started doing some 1/24 Revell type stuff.
I'm trying to find an answer to that, I generally enjoy racing but here I am with 4 on-road Tamiya chassis that I've tried to get as scale as possible, with only outdoor off-road tracks around. Debating on trying crawling but I'm assuming my usual Tamiya choice isn't very good (The CC-01/02 chassis aren't exactly mentioned much) so I'm considering an SCX24 to try it.
Give the SCX24 a try, you might get hooked! Thanks for watching!
If only they put a bit more effort in their chassis' scaleness. Not really so much about the friction shocks, which for this scale are, IMO acceptable, but axle cases, especially. This Mogrich would have been a great segue (edited, not segway*) for it, as this should have portals, so they could've designed a new set of them with straight and portal designs with a small adaptor set of pieces and widen the range of designs to use.
The basic structure of the chassis has certainly been used (and probably paid for itself!) in tons of other bodies (LC80, FJ, JLU-esque, K10, Hilux...).
It would put the level of these at the same as they do with their 1/12 (current Jimny, Kubelwagen etc) and 1/6 vehicles (first Jimny, as the 1/6 Jeep has incorrect suspension type as well).
Then again, Panda hobbies do have portal axles and oil shocks, so maybe you could build it to top off your build Matt!🤔😬🙏🏻
You make some good points and suggestions. Thanks for watching!
From the video it appears the performance is very scale as well. In my opinion scale crawlers have become scale bashers.
Hello there
It would have worked better if it had portal axles it would perform quite well.
I like to wrench as much as drive but not a modeller always got a couple of builds on the go along with repairs from sending them too hard.
Woah, how'd you get the windshield to look like the wipers have been used?
Tape mask, matte clear.
I'm a car guy that can't afford to do any of the things I can afford to do to an RC haha
😂
Why do I feel like I need one of these…?
How much overdrive would you suggest for this Jeep to run in class 2?
Eleventy. 😂
Great review. What shocks do u recommend to replace original's?
I haven’t changed them on mine, but perhaps look at what HotRacing has to offer. Thanks for watching!
@@scalebuildersguild Thank u for your quick answer!
Great weathering. Based on the color, it should be named the MoGrinch and haul away people’s Christmas trees 🎄😜.
😂
I love FMS detail , but there performance leaves a ton to be desired , I don't get why there so slow and no wheel , tire options , I have 2 and all they do is sit and look good
Most of the the tires and rims for the SCX24 and RC4WD 1/18‘s work great with the FMS 👍🏻
Would you say it’s unimog adjacent?
Do you have any stickers for my rock crawlers?
I'll have a new set of stickers coming out in the next few weeks!
Or you can watch Josh's weathering video 🤣
I guess I'm both I'm a builder and a player... LOL
Has it been discontinued?
You'll have to check with FMS.
dude 37 seconds ago
More of an rc'r that pretends to model lol.
