OLD STONE HOUSE RENOVATION PROJECT BEGINS

- First came the cement mixer and scaffold, followed by the lime and sand. Next came the builders, to remove the concrete that a previous builder had put on the inside at the bottom of the stone walls (concrete does not allow the stone walls to breathe) and then to jetwash them. What a difference it has made. That job is ongoing but sufficient was done for the electrician to do the first fit installation for lights and plug sockets. And all this before the job was even due to the start. A great start.

MY STORY
Rewind, July 2018, inspired by a friend, I had the ‘crazy’ idea that I would step out of life’s conditioning to enable me to live my life to its fullest. I made the bold decision to leave my job, buy a campervan, rent out my house and go travel the world.
After living in my van for three years, travelling to Scotland, Scandanavia and Europe and living in Portugal through Covid I decided to make a new life in Portugal. I am now renovating a previously abandoned village house on the west coast of Central Portugal to live a more sustainable life.

So many comments about the lock. It’s wrong. I’m going to put the bracket for the lock on the inside of the door. I’m learning 😅
Have a beautiful Sunday Suzi🙏🇪🇦
Oh good. I was thinking that someone could close it from the outside and lock you in. 😮😅😊
Hello Suzi, hugs from Brazil 🇧🇷, in the salon you are going to renovate, put plastic tarp on the floor, before laying concrete to prevent humidity from rising on the future floor. Good luck 🙏🤍🥰💕
Thanks for the tip. And thanks for watching all the way from Brazil 🇧🇷🙏💕
Fair enogh, after all ,Portugal is one of the safest places in the world and we both share a love of Setubal❤
Hi Suzi! 🤗Wonderful to see you back on you property, with so many great plans to improve your land. 🌴🟠🌳🍋🍇🌹🌹🌹Working on the trimming, strimming, etc. will keep you healthy. 💓
It looks as though the building crew is 'ON IT', which gives you peace of mind. Your house will be so cute and cozy!
And do make your door as safe as possible. Keep up the positivity, and enjoy the sunshine! 😻sending a chin-rub to Beijinhos, sweet kitty
Hi Paisley, it’s great to be back. I’m so excited for being able to start work on the land, my happy place, whilst the house slowly transforms. Everyday there is a difference 😀💕
Try to become friends with the neighbor with the horses and you’ll have all the fertilizing you would ever need for your trees 👍✌️🤙❤️🇵🇹❤️
I’ve already scraped some off the road 😂
Hi Suzi ,great to see you back love watching you and your progress on your House and land.I find your videos very peaceful😊
That’s so lovely to know you find my videos peaceful. That is really how everything is unfolding here 🙏💕
@@dreamlifeportugal Beautiful Sunday Suzi🙏🇪🇦
Suzy you need a rubber strip
Have a nice sunday!🌞Take care.🌷🤗
It looks quite cozy
How good to get things started. You must be delighted to be back. 😊
Yes Shiela, I really am. My heart is joyful 💕🙏
Hi Suzi, I feel so chuffed to have Citrus trees named after me, well sort of! 😉😉So happy to see them. How's the cat? 😮😮?? I did a very silly thing on Friday, I was painting me ceiling and standing on my work top, and fell, very bruised, and feel very silly. You be careful. Take care lovely lady and look forward to your next video. Bye bye xx
Hi Sonya, hopefully I will get them in the ground for this Sundays video, but it’s hard work. Don’t feel silly, I stood on my worktop too in the other house to paint the ceiling. But, we must take extra care. We are not youngsters and don’t bounce as well now 😂 I hope you’re not too sore, take arnica tablets. They really help with bruising 💕
Yes that latch anyone can unscrew the screws.
I have changed it now 🙏
Hi Suzie, how wonderful to have such a variety of fruit to enjoy through the seasons! Im sure your local garden centre can help you with info on what to feed...when. You dont mention a well? So you are dependent on muni water? So will set up a weekly watering programme in rotation. Lovely to have cats back and to see some horses. Enjoy the weather and your reno and your tulips now its Spring!💐🌅
Hi Nicolette. I have a bore hole in the courtyard of the house. So I will need to wait until the building works are finished before I can start to use that. In the meantime I will use the hose. I only need to water the new trees as the others are well established and there is plenty of water underground for their roots to draw on. Can’t wait to see those tulips flower 🌷😀💕
Boa tarde obrigado pelo vídeo ❤
The door bracket is on wrong, those screws on the door frame needs to be hidden 😊
You are right. I’m going to change it 😅
Pleased to see you back in Monsanto, full of energy and willing to start priorities.
Hope you well❤
It’s great to be back Luisa. It feels so good to be back in this special place 🙏💕
The place is going to be brilliant once you get it all fully up and running! The house is stunning!
Thank you. It’s perfect for me 😀
❤❤
Fabulous!
Have you tried limes ? Sweeter than lemeon. Delicious for drinks and pickles.
Yes I like limes too. Will maybe get a lime tree too 😀
God bless you 🙏 💖
Tudo a correr bem e muita força.
Obrigada pelo vosso conselho. Preciso de mandar construir uma nova moldura para a porta e vou fazer uma porta de madeira a partir da bela madeira da caixa de vinho grande que tenho. A porta atual é apenas temporária.
Hayho, new car
So lovely to see things happening. I am nearing the end of my house renovations and can only dream of having something so historic and beautiful as yours because where I live (New Zealand) has nothing older than 1900s :) Well done on getting the trades in and co-ordinated, it cant be easy in relaxed Portugal :D
I did not know that about New Zealand. I am sure you have made yourself a lovely home. I have been very lucky with how everything is unfolding for me here. Life is really on my side 🙏💕
@@dreamlifeportugal :) You have given me an idea for a video on NZ houses and the age of mine being sooo old for many here, at 70 years old :D
- Such woderful mature plantings, you will have a Fruitfull Paradise. - Please don't cut your Rosemary TOO hard into the wood as it might not re-shoot eh. You can't beat roast lamb or mutton inserted with lots of rosemary leaf & all the roasted veggies.. yummmmm
Yes, hopefully an abundance of fruit. I’ve decided not to cut the Rosemary. Apparently I can make rosemary tea ☕️ I can cut some and have it in the house too
I just watched The Quinta CZcams vlog. They just had their olive trees trimmed back. Just a thought for the future.
Yes, thank you. Their trees hadn’t been cut for a long time. The one I cut I didn’t want to do the same way as I want the shade from it in the summer. Multi purpose. But I will hard cut the others as I noticed they had very few olives this year. 🙏💕
Wellcome Home Suzi - your home is going to be BEAUTIFUL.
Suzi .. I understand your concern with being secure - but with you using gas cooking and heating. May I suggest not a good idea to padlock yourself into a darkened stone room that just possibly you might need to exit in a hurry if there are flames? .. just drop the OPEN padlock into the catch so you can unhook easily even in the middle of the night from the inside - perhaps?
Hey Martin, thank you 🙏 Don’t worry, I don’t use the padlock at night, that is just to lock the door from the outside and I make sure the lock is closed when I’m in the Adega so no-one can accidentally lock me in! When I’m in the Adega at night I have an internal chain lock and a piece of wood to secure the door shut so I can exit quickly if necessary and I don’t leave the heater on at night. Thank you for caring and sharing 🙏💕
Awe listen to Virginia chatter
How did you arrived in your house since you sold Lucy?
I have a car now and an electric bicycle 😀
Suzi que lugar de Portugal você mora? ❤
Monsanto, Idanha-a-Nova
Are you still together with your boyfriend haven’t seen him around and the videos helping you A little tip on the latch that’s on your door you gotta cover up the screws to secure the door anybody with a screwdriver can undo the screws and come in you’re latch you gonna have to burn it into an L-shaped so it meets the door your lunch is supposed to cover up the screws 👍✌️🤙❤️🇵🇹❤️
Thanks for the advice. I’ve moved the latch bit so the screws are now on the inside. It’s really just to hold the door shut more than security. Here I could leave the door wide open and all would be safe. 🙏💕
Why would you bother to pad lock that metal door if I can only remove the four screws to break in 😂 You are funny girl apart from the big gap when it's all locked ❤
It’s true, but I could leave the door unlocked here and it would be safe. Its more to keep it shut 😀
@@dreamlifeportugal It looks secured with padlock 👌
A bolt to keep the door closed when it's padlocked would do for now.
Yes, I did buy one of those too 😀
@@dreamlifeportugal Well done that woman!
Does your heater need to be vented to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning?
No. Its a stand alone gas heater. I tested it for any leaks and I also have a carbon monoxide tester so I will know if there is any in the air. I also keep the door open all day to get fresh air circulation. 😀
Hello that lasp you have isn't secure you need to rethink this make it bullet proof did you buy a vehicle you have awesome property
Hi, I have put the screws on the inside of the door now. The lock is really just to keep the door shut, rather than secure the room. There is nothing in there to steal and it’s a very safe location. Portugal is one of the safest countries to live. I wish the rest of the world was the same. Yes, I bought a car 😀💕
lol pad lock /with screws you can get to ?
It’s just to hold the door shut 😂
"Promo sm" 😚
So, if someone comes along andoes the screws to your left, what will happen ? Looks like English locks dont work on Portuguese doors 😅😅😅😅
It’s just to hold it shut. Not to prevent a break in. Where I live no-one is going to try and break in. And it’s only temporary 😅
Have you got wood behind the metal
Yes I put a baton there to screw into 😀
