  • Beezie and John discuss and demonstrate the leg yield, including common mistakes.
    As always, we are demonstrating our way of doing things at JMS. What works for us may not work for all horses/barns/situations!

    Thank you guys so much for filming and posting these! It's awesome to get some pointers from you both, especially while some of us are horse-less due to quarantine. Hope you post more!

    This was so helpful and a nice reminder of how to perform a correct leg yield. I’ve been working on getting my retired barrel horse to relax more into a correct frame. Looking forward to incorporating this back into her routine.

    very helpful as I had to do leg yields in my last jumping lesson and my trainer just “assumed” I knew how to do it 😬 great explanation, probably could use a wind-reducing lapel mic on Beezie 😉 sending love from Mequon WI!

      andiee Yes, but we are self isolating as much as possible right now and just filming these for fun with an iPhone. We know we have some poor production quality at times, but we hope the videos are still a little helpful to watch! 😊

    Thank you for sharing your day with us. Great demonstration of leg yields. Little tough with the wind but you and Bezzie got your points across showing the exercise the correct way and common mistakes in position. Looking forward to watching and listening to you two again.
    John you have such a relaxed educational tone and love your sayings about keeping the horse happy. Take Care you two Susan

    Thank you Beezie, John and especially Darry Lou for showing the wrong way to do things too. That's very helpful to get a visual on what is the proper way. Feeling the horse too. You're the best.

    Could you share with us what type saddle pad do you use in Florida or other extreme hot weather that keeps your saddle somewhat dry and free of salt residue. Thanks Elizabeth from New Albany, Ohio.

      17Marriott Hi! We use Ogilvy pads, both the half pads and the baby pads.

    You can do this/train this in posting or sitting or is one better to start with then the other?

    Thank you for posting this! Just wondering - What is the difference between leg yields and half passes?

    • @lylasolway4502
      @lylasolway4502 Před 4 lety +1

      Leg yields are when the horse is bent around the leg that is pushing the horse over. Half passes are when the horse is bent the opposite way to the leg that is pushing the horse over. For example: leg yield to the left, bent right; half pass to the left, bent to the left.

    Thank you! I appreciate the videos since our barn is currently closed. Any chance there may be a microphone on the market that might work for videos? I found myself going up and down with the volume a lot. :)

      Lacey Leitner Hi Lacey, we are just doing these for fun using an iPhone. We are aware our production is pretty low quality, but hope they are still at least a little interesting and educational. 🙂

    I would certainly like to benefit from her expertise, but the audio is so awful not a word can be heard.
